Physician Lü arrived in a bit of a hurry.
Upon entering the room, Gu Jiangli was taken aback when she saw him sitting peacefully on the edge of the bed. Then, when she saw the emperor on the bed, she understood what was going on.
"Imperial Physician Lü, come quickly and examine His Majesty."
Gu Jiangli stood up to make room for Physician Lü.
Although she was a little anxious, she could only try to stay calm and not panic.
Physician Lü rushed to the bedside in three steps, taking the patient's pulse and then inserting acupuncture needles.
After the silver needles were removed, the emperor's complexion improved considerably, but he still showed no signs of waking up.
Gu Jiangli pulled Physician Lü to the other side of the room and asked, "Physician Lü, how is His Majesty's illness?"
Imperial Physician Lü shook his head. "Your Highness, His Majesty's heart ailment is a congenital condition, which is inherently difficult to cure."
"His Majesty has been suffering from excessive worry and depression for many years, making him even more difficult to treat."
"In addition, His Majesty had previously refused to take medicine, which aggravated his illness. Today's sudden fainting was due to two reasons: first, excessive emotions, and second... His Majesty's heart condition has flared up, and he has probably been feeling unwell for the past few days, but he just hasn't said anything."
Gu Jiangli was a little anxious. Hearing that the emperor had been feeling unwell for a long time but had not said anything, she felt even more bitter.
Was he keeping quiet to avoid worrying others, or was he keeping quiet because he still wanted to die?
She didn't want to think the worst, and calmly asked, "His Majesty has been taking the medicine obediently recently, is it still curable?"
Physician Lü looked somewhat saddened. "With my abilities, I can only delay it for a little longer."
Gu Jiangli's heart sank, and she asked in a trembling voice, "Doctor Lü, how long can we hold on?"
"If Your Majesty is willing to cooperate with the medication and acupuncture, there should be no problem in one or two years. I will definitely be able to let Your Majesty see the birth of the child in the Empress's womb."
"Is that all?" Gu Jiangli's voice became weak. She hadn't expected that the emperor, who seemed perfectly fine on ordinary days, was actually in such a state of health.
Physician Lü sighed and did not reply.
Gu Jiangli's sense of injustice gradually rose within her.
She felt indignant on behalf of the emperor.
"Imperial Physician Lü, have you considered seeking other physicians outside the palace? Perhaps they might have a way to treat His Majesty's illness?"
Physician Lü paused, his expression changing slightly.
Gu Jiangli hurriedly added, "Physician Lü, please don't misunderstand. I'm not denying your medical skills. You have treated His Majesty for many years and also helped me with my pregnancy. I fully acknowledge your abilities."
"However, there are more difficult and complicated diseases outside the palace than inside, and the doctors outside the palace have seen more patients than the imperial physicians of the Imperial Hospital. So I thought that it would be a good idea to find another possibility for His Majesty."
Physician Lü's expression softened, and his tense demeanor relaxed considerably.
"Your Majesty, to be honest, I made this suggestion to His Majesty years ago. There are many capable people outside the palace, and perhaps they can find a way to cure the heart disease through alternative means. But you have seen His Majesty's previous state."
"He doesn't want to get treatment, he won't even take medicine, so why would he listen to the suggestion of seeking a doctor outside the palace?"
Gu Jiangli breathed a sigh of relief when she heard him say that.
Physician Lü was broad-minded and one of the few people around the emperor who genuinely cared for him.
"Imperial Physician Lü, His Majesty is different now; he will definitely be willing to accept treatment from doctors outside the palace."
"Could you please secretly search outside the palace for outstanding doctors, and bring all the doctors you approve of to Jinghe Palace?"
"With my palace pass, you can bring people in and out of the palace at will, how about that?"
Gu Jiangli took out her imperial concubine's unique palace token and handed it to Physician Lü.
Physician Lü accepted it solemnly, tears welling up in his eyes.
"Your Majesty is devoted to His Majesty, and I will do my utmost in return."
A ripple of emotion stirred within Gu Jiangli.
As long as the emperor hasn't exhausted all his methods, he still has hope.
"Thank you for your help, Physician Lü. His Majesty's affairs will require your continued attention."
"Your Majesty is too kind. It is my duty to cure His Majesty's illness. I will go and prescribe new medicine for His Majesty immediately. Your Majesty will give birth in three months, so please do not worry too much. Worrying is not good for you and the baby."
"I understand, thank you Physician Lü."
Physician Lü behaved respectfully and left the room.
He had just closed the door when the emperor slowly awoke.
His eyes were glazed over, and when he opened them, he called out, "Imperial Noble Consort..."
Gu Jiangli came to the bedside and took the emperor's hand.
"Your Majesty, I am here. Please do not speak. Physician Lü has just come by. He said you are fine. It must have been because you were too emotional during your argument with the Empress Dowager today, which caused your blood to rush to your head and you fainted suddenly. Please rest more and you will be fine soon."
His lips were pale and dry, yet he still managed a reassuring smile as he slowly began to speak:
"I know the nature of my illness, so why do you say these things to deceive me?"
Although the emperor said those words, there was no hint of blame in his tone.
Gu Jiangli gripped his hand, tightening her grip slightly. "Your Majesty, have you been feeling unwell for some time now? But you haven't told me these past few days."
"I don't want you to worry," the emperor answered her question without hesitation.
Hearing this answer, Gu Jiangli breathed a sigh of relief.
The emperor concealed his health condition to avoid worrying her, which is better than him concealing it because he wanted to die.
"But Your Majesty didn't tell me, and now you've suddenly fainted. Doesn't that make me even more worried?"
The emperor sighed silently, looking listless, as if a mere gust of wind could knock him over.
