"What do you want to say to me, you damned woman?" Fang Xun was covered in dust and dirt, but he was still arrogant and had a fierce look in his eyes, as if he planned to devour Gu Jiangli alive.
Gu Jiangli spoke slowly and deliberately: "On my way here, I originally wanted to ask you who instructed you to sprinkle sorghum leaf powder on my outer robe, and who instructed you to release locusts. Once I have your confession, I can then go and convict the mastermind behind it all."
"But after I saw you, I suddenly had nothing left to ask."
"Ha! So what if I did it? Even if you know, what can you do to me? I am the son of the eldest princess, and that short-lived emperor is my maternal uncle. No matter how many mistakes I have made, he can only forgive me! He probably knows he doesn't have long to live, so he sent you to let me out, right?"
Fang Xun looked smug, as if he was certain that he would be alright.
She didn't know where Fang Xun's confidence came from; perhaps it was something he was born with.
She gently shook her head. "Unfortunately, His Majesty has no intention of letting you go."
"What do you mean?" Fang Xun's smugness turned into confusion. "He still wants to keep me locked up? How long does he plan to keep me locked up?"
"It's a waste to keep you locked up and give you extra food. So His Majesty doesn't plan to keep you any longer. After thinking it over, he thinks that only if you die will the Princess and the Empress Dowager give up their rebellious thoughts."
Fang Xun's eyes widened in disbelief. "Impossible! You poisonous woman, did you say something to my uncle? He couldn't possibly kill me!"
Gu Jiangli stood up and gave Hehua behind him a look.
Lotus, carrying a plate, walked from behind her to Fang Xun: "Your Highness, His Majesty has bestowed upon you a cup of poisoned wine."
“How could this be…” Fang Xun glared fiercely at Hehua, “You vile servant! You dare to falsely convey the imperial decree! My mother will never forgive you… and you too!” He pointed at Gu Jiangli, “You poisonous woman! This prince will not believe your words.”
"Guards! Guards! Someone is trying to poison the son of the current princess! To poison the royal bloodline! Guards!"
Fang Xun roared, his shrill voice echoing throughout the entire prison. Unfortunately, the guards outside the door seemed deaf and ignored his shouts.
His legs were trembling; he was genuinely scared.
The Imperial Noble Consort stood there, a smile on her lips, yet she looked like a demon.
Lotus, holding a cup of wine, approached step by step.
"No, don't come any closer! I... am His Majesty's own nephew! You can't do this!"
Gu Jiangli smiled coldly at him, "Even if you're the Jade Emperor's nephew, it's useless. Fang Xun, where do you get the audacity to curse my child and insult His Majesty? What do you think you are?"
She supported her back, stood up, turned around, and walked towards the cell door.
"Lotus, let him drink it; keeping him around will only cause trouble."
"Yes, Your Majesty."
