"Huh?" The men paused, but they had already arrived at the door of Gu Jiangli's room.
Gu Jiangli sat calmly at the table, looking at them with a smile.
She was stunningly beautiful, but her eyes held a deeper meaning.
"Gu...Gu Jiangli?"
Their expressions became somewhat flustered.
After all, not long ago, they were still talking about her behind her back.
Although I didn't say anything bad about her, it wasn't anything nice either.
I don't know how much of it she overheard.
Gu Jiangli's eyes didn't betray anything wrong at the moment, and she said gently:
"It seems you gentlemen recognize me?"
"No...I don't know him."
They had only heard about her story, but had never seen her face.
"Oh, right. It was the city lord's birthday banquet. I suppose you gentlemen weren't invited, so you might not have seen me before. But it doesn't matter, you've seen me now."
Upon hearing this, the men's expressions turned quite grim.
Gu Jiangli's words were simply saying that their status was too low, so they didn't even have the right to participate in the city lord's birthday banquet.
Her blunt words really didn't save them any face.
"Miss Gu, what exactly do you mean?"
Gu Jiangli smiled slightly: "It's nothing, I just wanted to invite you all for a cup of tea. How was the Jingting Green Snow tea from earlier?"
"Tea?" The group exchanged bewildered glances, recalling what the maid had said—that the tea was all made by Gu Jiangli himself. The thought of the powder floating on the surface of the tea intensified their unease. "You...you poisoned the tea?"
"Poisoning? Gentlemen, please don't joke around. This is Wenfeng Tower. If I were to poison someone here, I would be going to the authorities."
After hearing her words, the group felt much more at ease.
But then Gu Jiangli added, "The powder in the tea is not poison, but gold syrup powder, and it's the kind that failed to be refined. I wonder if you gentlemen can still get used to it?"
Gu Jiangli's words turned the faces of the several grown men deathly pale instantly.
"What did you say?"
"Golden juice powder?"
"Is it that golden juice?"
Gu Jiangli nodded. "Yes, it's that golden juice."
"vomit--"
The sound of vomiting could be heard coming from the side room.
They bent over or knelt down, completely disregarding their dignity, and began to gag their throats, trying to vomit up all the tea they had just drunk.
"Feeling nauseous?"
Gu Jiangli slowly stood up, his smile fading. "But what I just overheard was more disgusting than drinking nectar. How can the mouths of these young masters from wealthy families stink more than excrement?"
"You don't know the eldest young master at all, do you? How dare you talk about him like this behind his back? Who do you think you are?"
"I see your mouths are filthy, and your hearts are filthy too. Go ahead and drink some of the golden juice to rinse your mouths."
She watched coldly as the men hunched over and spat out disgusting saliva, and she had no interest in staying there any longer.
"Lotus, let's go home for today. He probably won't be coming."
It's getting late now, we can always come back tomorrow.
"You, you stop... Ugh..." The man wanted to say more, but he couldn't bear the nausea that rushed to his head, and he could only manage a few words before he couldn't continue.
Gu Jiangli turned around and sneered, "You'd better finish vomiting here before you talk."
After saying that, she took the lotus flower and went downstairs without looking back.
Lotus looked at her with stars in her eyes and admiration in her eyes: "Miss, you're amazing! You shut them up in no time. I'm afraid they'll be thinking about what happened today every time they eat for the next two weeks. I doubt they'll dare to talk behind people's backs again!"
"No problem, the best thing is to make sure they never forget this disgusting thing that happened today."
"They deserved it. By the way, Miss, where did you get that golden powder? I had no idea you could make this."
"There's no such thing as 'golden juice powder.' I was just kidding them. As long as it disgusts them, that's enough."
"Huh? What is that powder?"
"It's all golden, of course it's gold powder. I spent a lot of money to teach them a lesson."
"Gold?" Lotus opened her mouth wide. "Miss, my heart aches so much. I'd rather they drink the gold juice."
Lotus looked pained, which made Gu Jiangli laugh. "Alright, it's just a tiny bit. It won't kill anyone, nor will it bankrupt the Gu family. Let's go home."
She took Hehua's hand and walked out very intimately. From the side, the two of them didn't look like mistress and servant at all, but rather like sisters.
Before the two had even stepped out of the gates of Wenfeng Tower, a waiter suddenly ran over and stopped them:
"Ladies, our distinguished guest invites you to meet upstairs."
Gu Jiangli raised an eyebrow, "A distinguished guest?"
————
They were taken to a private room on the second floor.
This was different from the window-side room where she usually sat.
This is a closed room, and at least from the outside, the soundproofing is very good.
It is indeed reserved for distinguished guests.
The waiter respectfully opened the door for her, and a screen came into view.
Behind the screen, the silhouette of a long-haired man was faintly visible.
Gu Jiangli felt that the tall, slender figure looked somewhat familiar.
She hadn't met many men here, and even fewer with such a unique temperament.
After thinking about it again, I realized that anyone who could be a distinguished guest at Wenfeng Tower must have an extremely noble status.
She searched her mind for a few names and quickly got the answer.
"Young Master?"
Gu Jiangli called out softly and tentatively.
