Before Huaiyu could say anything more, Jiang Huaizhi simply raised his hand and covered his mouth.
He stood up, lifted the carriage curtain, patted his clothes, and stepped down from the carriage quite naturally.
Huaiyu immediately followed.
After standing still, he realized why his young master was in such a hurry to get off the carriage.
It turned out that Gu Jiangli had arrived.
"Young Master, what a coincidence." Gu Jiangli smiled gently.
Jiang Huai smiled and replied, "Yes, what a coincidence."
Huaiyu rolled her eyes at the sound of it.
What's so coincidental?
They've clearly been waiting here for an hour.
"I think I can already smell the wonderful aroma. Let's go in first."
"Okay." Jiang Huaizhi remained gentle and polite throughout, leaving no room for criticism.
Gu Jiangli deliberately lingered her gaze on him a few more times.
I wanted to find something different about him today.
He wore a lake-blue long robe, similar in color to Gu Jiangli's, and his hair was simply tied up in a small bun, with the rest draped down his back.
He didn't dress up deliberately, but he added a jade pendant to his waist. His casual and relaxed demeanor made him even more eye-catching.
Passersby kept looking in their direction.
Besides admiring the flowers, one can also appreciate the beauty of people, so of course no one would miss this opportunity.
Gu Jiangli was already used to these gazes and didn't feel uncomfortable at all.
However, Jiang Huaizhi looked somewhat unnatural.
Because his blinking frequency had obviously increased.
If it wasn't because of nervousness or unease, she could tell that Jiang Huaizhi didn't really like this kind of place.
"Young Master, there are too many people here, and we can't really see the peonies clearly. Why don't we go over there and take a look?"
She looked towards the less crowded area.
Jiang Huai nodded as if he could breathe a sigh of relief: "Okay."
Having reached an agreement, the two left the crowded area.
They kept talking as they walked.
On the way, Gu Jiangli inquired about some things concerning Jiang Huaizhi himself.
For example, his health and his recent condition.
Jiang Huaizhi answered all her questions gently, and also inquired about her recent mood.
The two of them chatted back and forth and gradually became much more familiar with each other.
Gu Jiangli's mind wasn't just on chatting with him; she was also constantly aware of her surroundings.
Because she still remembered that something unexpected would happen to Jiang Huaizhi today.
This exquisite garden is a garden built around a lake.
All the peonies are planted along the lake, and the combination of the flowers and the calm lake water creates a unique beauty.
She couldn't imagine what could possibly happen to Jiang Huaizhi amidst such beautiful scenery.
Just as their conversation ended, Gu Jiangli asked, seemingly casually, "Young Master, has anyone been causing you trouble lately?"
Jiang Huai paused, then said, "No, why does Miss Gu ask that?"
"It's nothing. I just think that someone like the eldest young master might easily arouse jealousy."
He paused for a moment, then resumed his usual gentle expression: "Miss Gu is overthinking it. I have no special skills and am frail and sickly. Who would be jealous of someone like me?"
"Young Master is underestimating himself. You are of noble character, polite and gentle, and the object of affection for many women in the city. It is only natural that you would arouse jealousy."
He laughed again: "Miss Gu thinks too highly of me. If so many people really regarded me as their beloved, I wouldn't be unmarried until now."
Gu Jiangli was speechless.
She then realized something she had been ignoring all along.
Last time, until the original owner died, Jiang Huaizhi remained single and never married.
No one knows why.
Although the city lord and his wife were also anxious about his marriage, they never took any substantial action, only offering a few words of advice in front of him.
So why doesn't he get married? Is it because he hasn't met someone he likes?
Gu Jiangli didn't want to ask too many questions about this matter, after all, given their current relationship, it would be too presumptuous to bring it up.
She smiled but didn't reply.
They walked to the other side of the lake.
Perhaps because the flowers here aren't very vibrant, and the pavilions built in the garden block some of the sunlight, making the area even more gloomy, they are unwilling to come here.
With the surroundings quieter, Jiang Huaizhi's tension seemed to ease.
She changed the subject: "Does the eldest young master dislike crowded places?"
"I would say I prefer quiet, which may be related to the fact that I was sick at home since I was a child. I rarely go to crowded places to play, and gradually I have come to dislike those noisy places."
"I see."
Jiang Huai had just finished saying that he liked quiet when the sound of a child crying, which was unbearable to the ears, came from all around.
The piercing, ear-piercing cry made both of them frown.
Gu Jiangli glanced down and saw a boy, about seven or eight years old, crying with his head up under the arched bridge. There were no family members around.
"Is this child lost?"
She muttered to herself, and her feet moved involuntarily toward the boy.
It wasn't that she felt sorry for the child, but she just didn't want him to keep crying like that.
Jiang Huaizhi followed behind her and instructed Huaiyu, "Go and see if anyone has lost a child."
"Yes." Huaiyu immediately turned and left.
Gu Jiangli approached the child, squatted down, and forced a smile as she asked, "Where are your family members?"
The boy cried and then stopped sobbing: "They don't want me anymore."
Gu Jiangli frowned. Could it be that he had been lost?
