"Asleep?" Gu Jiangli was incredulous.
She had never seen a baby fall asleep so soon after birth that it took less than a blink of an eye.
This is utterly unbelievable.
"Dr. An, are you sure he's just asleep?"
"The young master is in good health, there's nothing wrong with him, he's really just asleep."
Despite her shock, Gu Jiangli was relieved.
She had no doubt about An Guangbai's medical skills, nor did she doubt her own system.
Her child, of course, couldn't possibly have a problem.
"That's good." Jiang Huaizhi's expression softened.
The midwife quickly said, "The young master has never cried since he was little, so he will surely be very mature when he grows up."
Jiang Huaizhi was overjoyed to hear this.
No father would refuse to hear outsiders praising his child.

As soon as Jiang Huaizhi finished speaking, a wave of fatigue washed over him.

The city lord and his wife still came to visit the next day.

After exchanging a few words, the wet nurse carried the child into the house.

After sitting down again, the city lord's wife cleared her throat and said, seemingly casually:
"How does Jiang Li plan to take care of this child in the future?"
Gu Jiangli's smile froze; the city lord's wife was clearly implying something.
She didn't rush to answer the question, but instead asked in return, "Does Madam have some other plan in mind when she asks this?"
“Jiang Li, I do have an idea. You see, Huai Zhi’s health isn’t good right now, and Doctor An also said that you are weak. The city lord's wife's actions were probably not intended to relieve their worries, but rather to cause them trouble.
After Sun Chan and Jiang Huaisong understood, they stood aside with smiles, waiting to see what would happen.
Gu Jiangli smiled, showing no sign of anger.
"I am truly moved by how much Madam cares for Huaizhi and me."
The city lord's wife was somewhat surprised; she thought Gu Jiangli would get angry on the spot and object.
Unexpectedly, she was so calm.
"So, you're agreeing?"
Gu Jiangli neither explicitly agreed nor disagreed, but instead said:
"It is a good thing that Madam is willing to share the burden with me and Huaizhi. I also greatly admire Madam's ability to raise children. The two young masters are now outstanding individuals under your care."
"Huaizhi respects the elderly and the virtuous, and he is very respectful to you two. He can be considered a filial son and virtuous grandson of the Jiang family. As for the second young master, he dotes on his wife and is devoted and responsible. He is a rare good man in Qingfeng City."
"The achievements of the two young masters are all a result of your upbringing."
At first, the city lord's wife listened with great pride, thinking that Gu Jiangli was really praising her, but as she listened, she felt more and more uneasy.
When she saw Gu Jiangli's teasing look, she immediately realized that he wasn't praising her at all; he was clearly mocking her!
It is said that Huaizhi respects his parents, but he stopped them from entering the courtyard last night.

She even said she raised her two sons well, but what she was really saying was that she didn't know how to raise children at all!

The city lord's wife stood up in anger, her chest heaving uncontrollably.
She really wanted to scold Gu Jiangli for being ungrateful, but if she actually got angry and said it, wouldn't that just prove she was anxious?
Gu Jiangli was clearly praising her, so why was she in a hurry? If she got anxious, wouldn't that be admitting that Gu Jiangli's mockery of her was correct?
After much deliberation, the city lord's wife could only swallow Gu Jiangli's "praise" in silence.
She gritted her teeth, calmed herself down, and said:
"Since you think so too, then send the child to my facility from now on."
