Chapter 446 The Princess and the Tyrant (32 Mutation)

After Prince An left, Gu Jiangli spent her days with the Empress Dowager and her nights with the Emperor.

For several days in a row, the palace was very quiet.

The silence was so profound that Gu Jiangli wondered if the matter was already over and that Prince An had given up.

But she knew that Prince An had been planning for so many days and wouldn't give up so easily after her attack; he would eventually make his move.

One afternoon, she had just finished eating when she felt a fetal movement in her belly.

The child seemed to have some kind of awareness, reminding her to be prepared.

"What's wrong, Consort Yun? Is your stomach upset?" The Empress Dowager asked anxiously when she saw her frowning.

Gu Jiangli waved his hand, about to speak, when a palace maid rushed in from outside, shouting before she even stopped:

"Your Highness, something has happened!"

The palace maid was covered in sweat and spoke loudly, startling the Empress Dowager. "What is it? Speak so rashly!"

"It's...it's His Majesty. For some reason, His Majesty has gone mad with bloodshed. Several palace servants have been...Eunuch Ming sent me to fetch you quickly, saying that only you can appease His Majesty. Please go and see!"

"What?" The Empress Dowager was startled and turned to Gu Jiangli.

Gu Jiangli's eyes darkened, and he stood up without saying a word. "Lead the way!"

"Be careful, don't rush, watch the child!" the Empress Dowager instructed from behind.

Gu Jiangli could only hurriedly reply to the Empress Dowager with a few words before leaving.

The sedan chair had been prepared long ago. Gu Jiangli took a close look at the people carrying the sedan chair and recognized them as several familiar faces from Jing'an Palace. So she got into the sedan chair.

They walked quickly, but still tried their best to keep the sedan chair steady.

The baby in her belly kept moving, and every movement felt like a reminder to be careful.

Gu Jiangli pinched the web of her hand, trying to calm herself down.

The emperor had not worn poisoned clothes for a long time.

According to Qi Jin, several people from the Imperial Wardrobe did indeed disappear. It was probably because Prince An noticed something was amiss and was worried that the investigation would lead to him, so he dealt with the people who were in question first.

In this way, there should be no problem in sending clothes to the emperor later.

Could it be that too much poison accumulated in the past, causing the illness to recur?

Gu Jiangli looked at the palace maid leading the way and asked in a very worried tone:

"Did Eunuch Ming go to deliver someone to His Majesty?"

The palace maid was taken aback for a moment, then said, "Bringing people? No, Eunuch Ming has been with His Majesty the whole time. He was worried that His Majesty would hurt more people, so he hasn't left his side for a moment."

Gu Jiangli suddenly loosened her grip on her hand.

That makes things simple.

Her face still showed a worried expression as she said to Lotus below, "Lotus, you don't need to come with me. Go and tell the Empress Dowager that I will be spending the day with His Majesty and will not be returning to Wenhua Palace. Tell her not to worry."

Lotus raised her head, looking somewhat bewildered into Gu Jiangli's eyes.

But soon, she nodded vigorously, "Yes, this servant will go right away."

Watching Hehua run back to Wenhua Palace, Gu Jiangli felt relieved.

Lotus should understand her intention.

————

Gu Jiangli had just stepped off the sedan chair and had not yet pushed open the gate of Jing'an Palace when he heard a hoarse roar from inside.

"Ah—I'll kill you! I'll kill you!"

Gu Jiangli's heart skipped a beat. She had seen emperors behead people before, but none of them had ever done it with such fury, shouting and killing as they did today.

The emperors of the past were unwilling to kill, so they always appeared calm when they drew their swords, but in reality, they were resisting and restraining themselves.

But today, why is it so different?

Upon opening the door, the first person they saw was Eunuch Ming, who was clearly injured and collapsed on the ground, unable to stand up.

Gu Jiangli had no time to worry about Eunuch Ming. In the blink of an eye, she saw the emperor wielding a long sword wildly, hacking and slashing indiscriminately.

His forehead was covered in cold sweat, and his bloodshot eyes accompanied his hoarse roar. At this moment, the emperor was like a ferocious beast possessed by demons, killing anyone in sight.

Upon closer inspection, several people were found lying in the room, their condition unknown...

The strong smell of blood made Gu Jiangli feel nauseous, but she held back and took a few big strides toward the emperor, quickly grabbing his waist from behind.

“Your Highness, be careful…” Eunuch Ming murmured behind her.

Gu Jiangli was only focused on waking the emperor, "Your Majesty, please wake up, it's me, it's Consort Yun!"

The emperor's face trembled, and he continued to swing his long sword. He struggled violently, trying to break free from Gu Jiangli's grasp.

"Aaaaah—I'm going to kill you! I'm going to kill you today!"

Gu Jiangli didn't know who he was talking about, but he felt that he was delirious and out of his mind.

"Your Majesty! Wake up! Don't let it control you!"

But today's emperor was different from the past; he seemed completely deaf to his own words and continued to struggle.

He was quite strong, and broke free in a few pushes. Gu Jiangli was pushed back several steps by him, and she turned around nimbly to grab the table so that she wouldn't fall to the ground.

The emperor kept brandishing his sword, and with a turn of his head, he seemed to have found the only person in the room he could kill.

Gu Jiangli's back was facing him.

He raised his longsword high and thrust it straight at Gu Jiangli's back.

But when Gu Jiangli turned her head, her bright, star-like eyes shone into his eyes like a ray of light.

The sword trembled in the air, then froze.

"Your Majesty! Are you awake?"

Gu Jiangli quickly stood up and grabbed the emperor's hand, "It's me, it's Consort Yun."
