Chapter 60 The Wealthy but Childless Prince (19)

Gu Jiangli paused.

Why not?

It's not impossible that the royal family coveted Prince Yu's vast wealth, which rivaled that of a nation.

For an emperor, having the mines in his own hands was far more reassuring than having them in the hands of a prince.

Gu Jiangli became somewhat nervous at the thought of this possibility.

If Prince Yu had no children in his lifetime, the only people in the Prince's mansion would be his mistress and Lan Shuang, along with their son.

Dealing with these three people would be too easy.

As long as the Yu Prince's lineage has no successor, this vast foundation will naturally be taken over by the royal family.

If that's the case, then Prince Yu's infertility is probably not an act of fate, but rather something man-made...

Gu Jiangli frowned.

Even when fighting against Lan Shuang, he could still win.

How much of a chance does she have of winning against the emperor?

Moreover, judging from her speculation, the emperor was no less cunning, scheming, and ruthless in his use of tricks than she was.

Out of the corner of his eye, Gu Jiangli saw Hehua placing the envelope in a mahogany box, hidden on the bottom shelf of the cabinet.

Her plans have changed somewhat.

"Fine, then we'll have to use Lan Shuang to see what kind of person the emperor is."

After that day, she would always receive letters from that young master Xu. The contents of each letter were different, but they were all about complaining to her that he missed her so much that he couldn't eat or drink.

The letter would end with the phrase "Looking forward to seeing you."

Later, Lotus stopped even reading the letters; the mushy words disgusted her.

Gu Jiangli kept all the envelopes together.

This Xu Zhuo, knowing full well that he was already married, still couldn't recognize his own status and wrote letters to express his love. He deserved to be used by Lan Shuang.

She felt no pity for the man; it would be good if this incident taught him a lesson.

One day, the letter was never delivered again.

"Lotus, has Lan Shuang's confinement been lifted?" Gu Jiangli asked.

"The ban was lifted last night. I heard that the young princess has finally finished copying her medical book and can go out now."

"So, she's about to take action."

Gu Jiangli smiled and said to the lotus flower:

"Lotus, have you prepared all the things I asked you to?"

Lotus replied confidently, "Don't worry, Your Highness, everything was prepared long ago."

Gu Jiangli nodded in satisfaction, "Then let's wait for the fish to take the bait."

That afternoon, a maid rushed to her room, claiming she had something to say to her in a low voice, so Gu Jiangli cooperated and left only Hehua alone.

"Your Highness, the Prince has been injured in the mine! He's bleeding a lot. He said he doesn't want you to worry and forbids us from making a big fuss about it. Please go and see him!"

Gu Jiangli's expression changed drastically. "What? Where is the Prince?"

"It's right by the side gate. The prince told you not to bring too many maids. The fewer people who know, the less likely the news will reach the mistress's ears."

Gu Jiangli, holding Hehua's hand, nodded hurriedly, "I understand, I understand, please lead the way!"

Her impatient manner secretly pleased the maid who delivered the message.

The three of them walked towards the side door.

As Lotus walked, she secretly looked around for any danger, her "hidden weapon" already prepared and ready to be used at any time.

As Gu Jiangli walked, the anxiety on his face disappeared.

There are fewer and fewer people around, so there's no need to perform anymore.

If Prince Yu were truly injured, and if he intended to keep it a secret from his mistress, he would also keep it a secret from her.

She's pregnant; how could she possibly endure such stimulation?

Lan Shuang doesn't think twice when she makes up lies.

But she had no choice but to comply.

They arrived at a secluded garden, with a side gate not far ahead. However, the maid leading the way suddenly turned and headed towards another wing room.

"Why are we coming this way? Isn't the side entrance over there?" Gu Jiangli pointed in the direction of the side entrance, but the maid leading the way didn't turn her head and ignored her completely.

Suddenly, the group stopped outside the door of a side room.

The maid said, "Your Highness, the Prince is inside. This is the most secluded room in the manor. He is recuperating in there and will not be discovered. Please go in and take a look."

Gu Jiangli smiled faintly: "Thank you."

The young maid leading the way looked puzzled, as if she didn't understand what the princess was so happy about.

Logically speaking, the princess should be very nervous and anxious.

But she didn't think much of it and ran away as soon as she saw Gu Jiangli enter the room.

The moment Gu Jiangli entered the room, she was hugged from behind. "Jiangli, that's great! You're still willing to see me. I knew you had no choice but to marry Prince Yu. You still have me in your heart."

She rolled her eyes; she had no intention of having a man who used ginkgo leaves as a token of love.

This Xu Zhuo is truly speechless.

The original owner had been in love with him for so long, but he never proposed. Now that they were married, he was thinking of secretly meeting her again.

That's so despicable.

Gu Jiangli said sarcastically, "Yes, you wrote me so many letters, how could I bear not to come see you?"

After saying that, she pulled the man's hand away.

With just one glance, Lotus understood immediately.

Lotus Flower stretched out her large arm and waved it forward, scattering white powder in the air. Before Xu Zhuo knew what had happened, he fell heavily to the ground, unconscious.

Gu Jiangli and Hehua covered their mouths and noses and quickly retreated outside the door.

Only then did she truly see Xu Zhuo as a man.

He's not good-looking at all; he has a delicate, scholarly face and looks like he'd be a kept man.
