No one's opposition could change Gu Jiangli's mind.
After swallowing the pill, she felt much better. Although she wasn't as energetic as she was before she was pregnant, she definitely felt more vibrant and energetic.
After finally getting into the carriage, she discovered that the carriages at the Prince's residence were not as bumpy as she had imagined.
By the time they arrived at the mine, it was almost midnight.
Ahead, there were scattered lights everywhere, and hundreds of people carrying torches were walking around in a panic, probably searching for Prince Yu's whereabouts.
A group of people were frantically digging at the entrance of the collapsed mine, trying to create an opening so that people could go in to rescue them.
Gu Jiangli held the child as the carriage gradually drove into the entrance outside the mine.
She looked around but didn't see her mistress. She was probably too worried and had been taken to a safe place to rest.
The passing craftsmen saw a woman holding a child on the carriage and immediately spoke up to stop her:
"Who goes there! This is a restricted mining area; unauthorized personnel are not allowed to enter!"
Lotus immediately said, "This is the Princess Consort, not some stranger. The Princess Consort is worried about the Prince's safety, please let us in quickly!"
Upon hearing this, the craftsman sized Gu Jiangli up and down, then chuckled.
"Your Highness? Although you are somewhat beautiful, look at your disheveled appearance, how can you be a princess? Go, go, go, get out of here!"
After the craftsman finished speaking, he added, "The princess is heavily pregnant! If you're going to pretend, at least make it look more convincing before you come!"
Gu Jiangli frowned.
She had just given birth and changed her clothes before rushing over. She hadn't dressed up, and under the cover of night, she certainly didn't look as polished as usual, which was understandable given the craftsman's circumstances.
Lotus was furious; her eyes were practically bulging out of their sockets.
"What are you saying! This is the Princess herself! The Princess was so worried about the mine today that she went into premature labor! It's not an imposter!"
But the craftsman wouldn't budge: "Come on, don't think I don't know what you're up to. Today, everyone in the mine is busy rescuing people and has no time to think about anything else. If someone is willing to pick up some gold and jade, no one will notice!"
"We've already caught several people who infiltrated the mine under the guise of being relatives!"
Gu Jiangli sighed.
She never expected that she would be stopped at the door by the miners.
However, the craftsman's caution is not without reason.
This isn't an ordinary place; you can easily make a small fortune by picking up things when no one is looking.
It's easy to imagine that some people might take advantage of this opportunity to come in and commit petty theft.
"Alright, worker, I know you're doing your job. You can send someone to call the mistress. She recognizes me and will know whether I'm real or not."
"The mistress is currently resting because she is heartbroken over the prince's matter, and she has no time to deal with you."
Lotus was furious. The thought of the princess coming here to see the prince despite being in such a bad state made her heart ache.
The thought that the craftsman wouldn't listen to a word and wouldn't let her go only fueled her anger.
"I'll say it again! This is the Princess! If you don't move aside, I'll take action!"
"You dare to lay a hand on me? This is a place that His Majesty and Prince Yu value highly!"
"You'll see if I dare!"
Just as the two were about to start fighting, a voice suddenly rang out:
"What happened?" A deep male voice came from the right front.
When the craftsman saw the approaching man, he immediately put on a smile and ran over to him in small steps.
"Your Majesty, this person is impersonating the Princess Consort. I'm trying to stop her from coming in. But the maidservant beside her is so unreasonable; she almost attacked me!"
Lotus immediately knelt down and bowed to the emperor upon seeing him.
The craftsman's eyes gleamed with pride.
Gu Jiangli sat motionless in the carriage, silently gazing at the emperor.
The craftsman grew impatient, "How can you be so ill-mannered, woman! This is His Majesty! You should kneel and pay your respects!"
Gu Jiangli listened to the craftsman's words without saying a word. The emperor stood in front of the carriage, hands behind his back, exuding an imposing aura.
Gu Jiangli smiled and said, "Your Majesty, when we first met, you said I was pregnant and wouldn't allow me to perform the formal ceremony with others. Today, I'm holding a child, so please excuse me from this formality."
The emperor's eyes darkened, and he did not answer Gu Jiangli's question, but stared intently at the child in her arms.
"She gave birth?"
Gu Jiangli replied calmly, "Your Majesty, the baby was just born today. I rushed over as soon as I heard that the Prince had an accident."
"A boy?" the emperor asked again.
"Yes, it's a boy. First, the assassin frightened me, then the mine collapse buried the prince, which terrified me. The child couldn't withstand it and was born prematurely."
The Emperor lowered his eyes slightly. "Congratulations to the Princess on the birth of her son. However, it is indeed sad that the child will have to endure the pain of losing his father right after birth."
"His Majesty is so certain that the prince is dead before his remains have even been found?"
"I am not too pessimistic, but I do not want the Princess to have too much hope. The greater the hope, the greater the disappointment."
"After all, my crown prince is also buried in the mountains. I have long been prepared to lose him, so that I will not be heartbroken again when the real result comes out."
Gu Jiangli was shocked. Even the Crown Prince was buried in the mountains?
In an instant, her disdain for the emperor was written all over her face.
"Your Majesty, when it comes to ruthlessness, I'm afraid no one in the world can compare to you."
Her meaning was quite clear, and the emperor did not refute her at all.
The situation was urgent, and she didn't want to waste any more time at the door.
"Your Majesty, could you please tell that craftsman who I am? He seems to have mistaken me for an imposter and won't let me in."
Gu Jiangli and the emperor engaged in a lively exchange of words, while the craftsman standing nearby turned pale with fright.
If this woman wasn't a princess, how dare she speak to the emperor like that?
Could it be that I've really mistaken someone for someone else?
Did the princess really come here as soon as she gave birth?
The best course of action now is to kneel down and admit fault!
"Your Highness, I was blind to your greatness! Please forgive me! There were just too many people who sneaked in today, I had to be careful!"
The Emperor spoke first: "Alright, let the Princess Consort in. She is magnanimous and won't hold a grudge against you."
Gu Jiangli's words stuck in her throat.
It's hardly the emperor's place to offer forgiveness; he really loves playing the good guy.
Upon hearing this, the craftsman quickly thanked the emperor, saying, "Thank you, Your Majesty, thank you, Your Majesty."
After saying that, he jumped up and pulled away the roadblock that was blocking Gu Jiangli's carriage.
"Please, Your Highness."
Gu Jiangli rolled her eyes at the emperor, then held the child and let the carriage move forward.
As the carriage passed by the emperor, he whispered:
Do you think you can find Prince Yu?
Gu Jiangli chuckled. Now that things had come to this, there was no need to be polite with the emperor. She said softly:
"Don't worry, I will definitely find the living Prince Yu. If I find the dead Crown Prince at the same time, I will definitely let you know."
