Chapter 80 The Wealthy, Heirless Prince (39)

Prince Yu did not want to be emperor, so she naturally would not make him do things he did not want to do.

She had no interest in the position of empress.

Compared to the imperial palace, this comfortable royal residence suited her taste better.

As for their children, well, children and grandchildren have their own blessings. When their generation grows up, they will naturally know how to get along with the royal family.

If her child wants to be emperor, it wouldn't be a problem to help him seize it then.

The carriage came to a smooth stop, and the mistress alighted from the carriage behind them.

She and Prince Yu stood on either side, supporting Gu Jiangli steadily.

Upon entering my small courtyard, I heard a series of sobbing sounds.

Prince Yu: "What's that noise?"

Gu Jiangli then realized, "Oh! I tied him to the tree, I forgot."

It's been a whole day and night, hasn't it?

Lan Shuang's husband was tightly tied to a tree trunk, with a rag covering his mouth. She guessed that it was Aunt Du who did it.

The blood on his head had congealed and stuck to his face, making him look quite filthy.

As soon as Prince Yu and his wife approached, they immediately recognized him.

"Wang Cheng? What did he do wrong?"

Gu Jiangli replied, "Oh, he tried to kill me, but I killed him instead. Pretty impressive, huh?"

Prince Yu's face turned even blacker than ink.

He asked the man, "Did the emperor send you?"

A flicker of fear crossed Wang Cheng's eyes, but he still shouted loudly:

"Ugh! Ugh! Ugh!"

Prince Yu frowned, and Gu Jiangli stepped forward, saying, "He said, 'Release me; I was just following orders!' Then, he smiled at Wang Cheng, 'That's what you mean, isn't it?'"

Wang Cheng's eyes widened: "Mmm!"

He said, 'That's right.'

The mistress was horrified. Before she could figure out what was going on with the murder and the emperor, she saw Prince Yu's eyes turn extremely gloomy, his fists clenched, and he turned and strode out.

Gu Jiangli couldn't catch up with him; it was the mistress who half-ran to stop him, asking, "Son, what are you doing?"

Prince Yu's voice was incredibly low, "I'm going to kill that dog emperor!"

The mistress's face turned pale instantly.

What are you saying!

"He dared to send someone to kill the princess, so he should have known I wouldn't stand idly by! He's asking for it!"

Ignoring his mistress's attempts to stop him, Prince Yu kept walking out, and the servants around him were afraid of the intense murderous aura emanating from him and dared not stop him.

It wasn't until Gu Jiangli spoke up and softly called out, "Your Highness."

Prince Yu stopped in his tracks. When he turned around, his reddened eyes and furious expression made people afraid to approach him.

Seeing that he wasn't moving, Gu Jiangli slowly walked over and took his hand.

“Your Highness, I know you want to avenge me, but there’s no need to dirty your hands.”

Prince Yu's clenched fist relaxed the moment Gu Jiangli touched it.

"He deserves to die!"

"Your Highness, I know, but we won't do things that involve bloodshed. Let others do it."

Prince Yu, panting heavily, looked at the princess standing unharmed before him and could hardly imagine what had happened to her while she was alone at home.

Fortunately, the princess was intelligent and decisive, which allowed her to subdue Wang Cheng. If she had been careless, the emperor would have succeeded.

He never dared to imagine such an outcome.

Prince Yu pulled Gu Jiangli into his arms, gently stroking her hair as if he were holding a priceless treasure.

His voice trembled, “The Emperor must not live. If the Crown Prince is unwilling to do it, I will personally cut off his head.”

Gu Jiangli placed her hands on his back to comfort him:

"Rest assured, Your Highness, the Emperor's crimes are too numerous to count, and death is his inevitable end."

Prince Yu and Gu Jiangli were not speaking in a low voice; at least Wang Cheng heard them clearly.

His eyes widened in disbelief; he never imagined that Prince Yu and his wife would actually plot to assassinate the emperor.

What about yourself?

At this moment, Prince Yu's gaze fell on Wang Cheng again.

Wang Cheng swallowed hard, so frightened by Prince Yu that he wet his pants.

Gu Jiangli frowned, her expression one of disgust.

Prince Yu approached, his cold eyes filled with murderous intent. "Throw him into the pond to feed the fish."

There's no need to keep this person around.

Gu Jiangli had previously said that Prince Yu wanted to execute him by slow slicing, but now he's just been thrown into the pond to feed the fish, which is already too lenient for him.

A group of strong and capable servants obediently took Wang Cheng down from the tree and then carried him away as easily as carrying sandbags.

Wang Cheng struggled desperately, but he couldn't escape his fate of death.

Gu Jiangli didn't go over to see, but she vaguely heard the sound of a heavy object falling into the water.

"Your Highness, after Wang Cheng dies, let's retrieve him from the water."

Prince Yu retorted, "Does the Princess Consort have softened her heart? Does she intend to bury him properly?"

He'd love to see this bastard become fish food!

Gu Jiangli denied it repeatedly, "How could that be? How could I be soft-hearted towards someone who wanted to kill me? I just think he's too dirty, and shouldn't ruin the little koi in the pond."

The koi in the pond were bought specially, and they weren't cheap.

Prince Yu was persuaded and instructed his servants: "After confirming that he is dead, take him to the mass grave to be fed to the wild dogs."

"Yes, Your Highness."

After the crowd dispersed, Gu Jiangli felt a great sense of accomplishment. Only after returning to her room did she feel physically and mentally exhausted.

The mistress was relieved to see that Prince Yu had given up any intention of taking action against the emperor.

When Prince Yu took care of Gu Jiangli, he did everything himself, even feeding her water.

She felt quite at ease leaving the child with the wet nurse.
