Chapter 20: Quickly Wearing and Falling in Love with the Dark CEO (Part 2)
After Chen Yang left, I sat alone in the office for a long time, my mind full of his questions. Could it be that Lin Yehan really had ulterior motives? But why would he do this? I tried to recall every detail of my time with him, but I couldn't find any flaws.
"What are you thinking about?" Lin Yehan's voice suddenly rang out, startling me.
"No...nothing." I covered up in panic, not daring to look him in the eye.
He seemed to see through my thoughts, but he said nothing, just smiled faintly: "Let's go, the dinner is about to start."
I took a deep breath, tried to calm myself, and followed him into the banquet hall.
In the banquet hall, people were drinking and drinking, and I suddenly felt like an outsider. Lin Yehan always held my hand and led me to an elegant woman.
"This is the daughter of the Lin Group, Miss Lin Yuwei." He introduced her to me.
I extended my hand politely: "Hello, Miss Lin."
Lin Yuwei didn't reach out her hand, but just looked me up and down, with a mocking smile on her face: "Are you Feng Ziang? Brother Yehan's male assistant doesn't look that good either."
I pulled my hand back awkwardly, feeling a little unhappy. Before I could say anything, Lin Yehan gave her a cold look: "Yuwei!"
Lin Yuwei then reluctantly reached out her hand and gently squeezed my fingertips, with a hint of provocation in her tone: "I hope you can always stay by your brother's side."
I felt Lin Yehan's hand tighten slightly, and I was even more confused. What was the relationship between them? Lin Yuwei's words were like a thorn, deeply piercing my heart. I tried to keep smiling, but I felt that the eyes around me were full of scrutiny and ridicule. I felt like sitting on pins and needles all night, and I just wanted to escape from this suffocating place as soon as possible.
The next day, all kinds of rumors about me started to circulate in the company. Some said I was a flower vase who got promoted by connections, some said my private life was messy, and some said I was completely uneducated and just came to the company to make money. These rumors spread like a virus, and I could feel strange looks wherever I went. Even colleagues who I had a good relationship with on weekdays began to deliberately distance themselves from me.
I was angry and aggrieved, but I had no way to defend myself. I realized that the world of the rich was far more complicated and cruel than I had imagined. Here, I was like a little white rabbit that had strayed into a pack of wolves, isolated and helpless.
"Have you heard all these rumors?" Lin Yehan's voice rang out behind me, with a hint of imperceptible worry.
I turned around, trying hard to hold back the tears in my eyes, and said nonchalantly, "It's just some groundless rumors. I don't take it seriously."
He looked at me silently, his eyes were deep and complicated. After a long while, he slowly said, "Zi'ang, trust me, I will handle this matter."
His voice was deep and firm, like a reassurance pill, calming my flustered heart instantly. At that moment, I suddenly felt that maybe he could really be my support.
The next day, a statement appeared on the company's internal network, severely condemning the rumormonger and stating that he would be held legally responsible. The statement was signed by Lin Yehan.
This statement was like a bomb, causing a huge uproar within the company. The rumors soon died down, and my colleagues looked at me with a little more awe. I know that all this is Lin Yehan's credit. He is like a guardian angel, silently protecting me from the wind and rain. However, there is always a shadow in my heart. Who is the source of those rumors? Why do they want to hurt me so maliciously?
I began to pay attention to the people and things around me, trying to find the mastermind behind the rumors. Once, by chance, I heard several female employees of the company whispering in the tea room, their words were full of jealousy and ridicule for my "rising to prominence". Only then did I realize that they were all fans of Lin Yuwei.
My intuition told me that Lin Yuwei was probably the instigator of all this. In order to confirm my guess, I began to approach her intentionally or unintentionally, trying to find out information indirectly. However, Lin Yuwei acted flawlessly, without revealing any flaws.
Until that day, I accidentally ran into Lin Yuwei and a strange man meeting in a coffee shop near the company. The man looked flustered and had a stack of documents in his hand. I hid in the dark and vaguely heard them talking about words such as "Lin Group" and "commercial secrets".
My heart sank suddenly. Could it be that Lin Yuwei and this man were teaming up to steal the Lin Group's business secrets? And I was just a pawn they used to divert their attention?
I was about to show up when my phone rang at an inopportune moment. It was Lin Yehan calling.
"Where are you?" His tone was cold, with a hint of suppressed anger.
"I..." I was about to explain, but I heard Lin Yuwei's delicate voice from the other end of the phone: "Brother, come quickly, I saw your assistant being intimate with a man, I don't know what they were doing..."
My heart instantly sank to the bottom.
I took a deep breath, tried to suppress the anger in my heart, and said coldly: "I am dealing with some personal matters and will be back soon."
After that, I hung up the phone and walked straight to the cafe. I wanted to see what Lin Yuwei was up to.
In the cafe, Lin Yuwei was chatting and laughing with the man, not noticing my arrival. I walked straight up to them, slammed the file bag in my hand on the table, and sneered, "Lin Yuwei, what else do you have to explain?"
Lin Yuwei was obviously startled by my sudden appearance, and her face turned pale instantly. She stammered, "Feng Ziang, why...why are you here?"
"Why can't I be here?" I looked at her coldly, "Aren't you afraid that I will tell Ye Han what you did?"
Lin Yuwei's face became even uglier. She bit her lips and said nothing.
"Why did you do this?" I looked at this once innocent girl in front of me, my heart filled with disappointment and confusion, "I have never wronged you before, why did you frame me like this?"
Lin Yuwei's eyes gradually turned red. She lowered her head and said in a choked voice, "I'm sorry, Ziang, I had no choice..."
"I had no choice?" I sneered. "What do you mean by having no choice? Do you think you can trample on the dignity of others just for your own selfish desires?"
"No, it's not like that..." Lin Yuwei couldn't hold back her tears and finally shed them, "I just... I just love my brother too much, I can't lose him..."
Hearing this, my heart trembled. So, is all this because of love?
I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself down. Looking at this girl who had lost herself in love, I suddenly felt a little pathetic.
"Go now." I said weakly, "For Ye Han's sake, I can let this matter go. But I hope this is the last time."
Lin Yuwei raised her head, looked at me gratefully, then picked up the briefcase and hurriedly left the cafe.
I sat alone in the cafe, feeling mixed emotions. Lin Yuwei's words were like a sharp blade that pierced my heart. It turned out that I had always been an outsider.
I suddenly wanted to meet Lin Yehan and ask him what was going on.
I took out my cell phone and called him, but a cold, robotic female voice came from the other end of the line: "Sorry, the number you dialed is turned off..."
My heart instantly sank to the bottom.
At this moment, a familiar voice sounded behind me: "Looking for me?"
I turned around suddenly and saw Lin Yehan standing behind me in a neat black suit, his eyes were deep and unfathomable.
