Chapter 23: Quickly Wearing and Falling in Love with the Dark CEO (V)

Sitting on a flight to a strange city, the white clouds floating outside the window resembled my mood, floating lightly but without direction.

Escape is the only way I can think of to get out of this. I still have that photo in my phone. He is smiling tenderly in the photo, but that tenderness is not for me. Oh, Feng Ziang, you are so stupid. How can you believe that there is love behind a businessman?

I forced myself not to think about the heartbreaking past, opened the recruitment website, and started looking for a new job. I sent out resume after resume, but all my responses fell on deaf ears. Could it be that I really couldn't find a job without the aura of the Lin Group?

"Brother, are you doing okay over there? Have you found a job?" Chen Yang's worried voice from the other end of the phone interrupted my thoughts.

"Don't worry, I'm fine. Take your time with the work. Don't worry about me." I tried to make my tone sound lighter, not wanting him to worry about me.

"Brother, you... don't lie to me, I know you feel bad... and I know about your affair." Chen Yang's voice choked, "Brother, please come back, brother... he really cares about you..."

"Chen Yang!" I interrupted him sharply, "Stop talking! I have made up my mind and there is no turning back!"

After hanging up the phone, my heart felt like it was torn apart. I know Chen Yang is doing this for my own good, but some scars, once uncovered, will break your heart.

"Ding Dong", the phone alert sounded, it was a cover interview invitation letter, from an emerging technology company, the position was in my major. I took a deep breath and told myself, Feng Ziang, you must cheer up and start again!

In the rental house, I looked through the few professional suits in the closet and finally chose a most ordinary black suit. Facing the mirror, I tried to force a confident smile, but it looked a little bitter.

“Knock knock knock—”

There was a knock on the door. I thought it was the landlady, but when I opened the door I saw a familiar face.

"Yi Chen? Why are you here?" I asked in surprise.

Shen Yichen, my senior in college, was also the object of my secret crush. We lost contact after graduation, and I didn't expect to meet him here.

"Come and see my little junior brother. Why don't you invite me in to sit down?" He said with a smile, his eyes full of tenderness.

I stepped aside to let him in, poured him a glass of water, and briefly explained my situation.

"Don't worry, everything will be fine." He patted my shoulder gently, his eyes firm, "Good luck in the interview tomorrow, I believe in you!"

The next day, I arrived at the interview location early. It was a new Internet company with a simple and stylish office environment. The interviewer was a middle-aged woman wearing gold-rimmed glasses. She had a serious face and sharp eyes, which made me nervous.

"Mr. Feng, I've read your resume. You have extensive work experience in the Lin Group. Why do you choose to leave?" she asked straight to the point.

I took a deep breath and answered calmly: "I hope to have a bigger platform to meet new challenges."

"Challenge?" She sneered, "As far as I know, you left the Lin Group because..."

She paused deliberately, with a hint of sarcasm in her eyes. I knew what she wanted to say, she just wanted to humiliate me.

"It's because of my personal reasons." I interrupted her, saying firmly, "But this does not affect my ability to work. I believe that my professional skills are sufficient for this job."

She seemed a little surprised by my answer and was silent for a few seconds. Then she flipped through my portfolio, pointed at one of the projects and asked, "Did you come up with the idea for this project? I heard that..."

"I proposed it." I interrupted her again, with a hint of displeasure in my tone, "Besides, I can prove with my ability that I am more suitable for this job than anyone else."

My determination and confidence seemed to shock her. She looked at me deeply, with the corners of her mouth slightly raised, revealing a meaningful smile.

As soon as she finished speaking, my cell phone rang. It was an unfamiliar number. I hesitated for a moment, but finally answered it.

"Mr. Feng, I'm from the Human Resources Department. Congratulations on passing the interview. You can come to the company tomorrow to complete the onboarding procedures." The other party's tone was formal and without any emotion.

I was stunned for a moment, and could hardly believe my ears.

"Thank you, thank you!" I stammered excitedly, and after hanging up the phone, I jumped up excitedly.

A new beginning, new hope, I believe I can do it!

In the next few days, I threw myself into the work. The pace of work in the new company was fast and the tasks were heavy, but I was full of energy.

However, just as I was getting used to my new working environment, something strange happened.

A project I was in charge of hit a bottleneck. The client was very dissatisfied with our proposal. It was about to expire, but I had no idea what to do.

Just when I was getting extremely worried, the client suddenly called and said that they had changed their minds and decided to accept our proposal.

I couldn't believe my ears. He was so tough before, why did he suddenly give in?

"Someone must have helped you." Shen Yichen revealed the secret.

My heart skipped a beat and an image of a person popped up in my mind, but I quickly rejected it.

It can't be him. I have already left the Lin Group. There is no reason for him to help me anymore.

However, what happened next made me question my judgment.

Another project I was in charge of required a batch of special materials, but the supplier was always short of supply, and I made several trips to get them without any results.

Just when I was about to despair, the supplier suddenly called and said that they had found a source of goods and could deliver the goods on time.

This time, I was even more certain that someone must be helping me secretly.

And I can’t think of anyone else who could be this person except Lin Yehan.

But why did he do this?

I was so confused that I couldn't help but call him.

"Why are you doing this?" I asked with a hint of questioning in my tone.

There was silence on the other end of the phone for a few seconds, and then his low voice came: "I just don't want to see you in trouble."

"I don't need your sympathy!" I almost yelled, "I am no longer an employee of the Lin Group. I can rely on my own strength..."

"I know," he interrupted me, "you've always been independent and strong, but I just want to give you a little support when you need it."

His voice was very soft, but it was like a heavy hammer, hitting my heart hard. His words were like the warm sun in winter, almost melting the hard ice in my heart. But I can't and shouldn't have anything to do with him anymore. Taking a deep breath, I forced myself to calm down, "Lin Yehan, what do you want?"

"I don't want anything, I just hope you're okay." There was a hint of helplessness in his tone.

"I'm fine now, you don't need to worry about me!" After saying that, I resolutely hung up the phone.

The work in the new company went smoothly. I quickly gained recognition from my boss with my own abilities. He was very mysterious and always wore a pair of gold-rimmed glasses, which made it difficult to see his true face. But he took good care of me and often gave me guidance and help at work, which enabled me to achieve good results in a short period of time.

"Zi'ang, your boss is very special to you." My colleague Xiaoli, a veteran lesbian and non-marriageist, came up to me with an ambiguous tone.

"Don't talk nonsense, he just cares more about his subordinates." I said this, but there were ripples in my heart.

One day after get off work, I was walking home alone when suddenly a black Maybach stopped in front of me. The window slowly rolled down and I saw that familiar face, and I was immediately filled with mixed feelings.

"Get in the car, I'll take you home." His tone was irresistible.

"No, I can go back by myself." I subconsciously wanted to refuse, but he had already opened the car door and motioned for me to get in.

After a moment's hesitation, I got in the car. The car was eerily quiet, with only the gentle music playing. I looked at him secretly. He seemed to have lost some weight, and his angular face looked a little more tired.

"You..." I was about to say something, but he spoke before me.

"Your new boss is from the Lin Group." His voice was low and magnetic, but it was like a bomb exploding in my ears.

I raised my head and looked at him in disbelief. "What do you mean?"

He turned his head, looked into my eyes with deep eyes, and a meaningful smile appeared on the corner of his mouth, "You will know soon."
