Chapter 28 Quickly Transmigrated! Got Bankrupt Overnight and Became the Young Master’s Bodyguard (31)
I took a deep breath and decided to take a chance. "Master Shen, I was framed. The security system issue was not caused by me."
He was silent for a moment, his eyes wandering over my face. "Oh? You have evidence?"
I took the button out of my pocket and handed it to him. "I found it at the scene of the crime, and I believe it can prove my innocence."
He took the button and examined it carefully, stroking the edge of it with his slender fingers. "What can a button prove?"
"This button is very special, and I suspect it belongs to the real mastermind," I explained. "I'm investigating its source."
He returned the button to me, with a barely perceptible smile on his face. "It seems like you're quite capable." He turned around and walked back, "Come with me."
I was stunned for a moment, then quickly followed him. He led me through the garden, around several corridors, and came to a secluded study. He opened the door and motioned me to go in.
"Tell me about the progress of your investigation." He sat behind his desk, fingers crossed, staring at me sharply.
I told him everything that happened tonight, including Director Liu's difficulties, Detective Wu's help, and how I cleverly got rid of Director Liu's men.
After listening to my story, he did not make any comments, but simply said, "Keep investigating. If you need anything, you can come to me."
I was delighted. I didn't expect that he would be willing to help me. This undoubtedly gave me great encouragement. "Thank you, Master Shen!"
He waved his hand and motioned me to go out. I walked to the door and suddenly remembered Maid Zhou. "Master Shen, Maid Zhou seems to know something, but she seems very scared and dare not say it."
He hesitated for a moment, "I understand, I'll take care of it."
I left the study room feeling much more relieved. Shen Haoxuan's support gave me hope. I believed that as long as I persisted, I would be able to find out the truth and clear my name.
I went back to my room and lay on the bed, but I couldn't fall asleep. The button and Shen Haoxuan's deep eyes kept appearing in my mind. Why did he help me? Did he also suspect Director Liu?
I got out of bed, walked to the window, and looked at the dark night sky in the distance. Suddenly, I remembered that the Shen family had a basement, and few people went there. I suspected that there might be some secrets hidden there... I picked up the button with a firm look in my eyes.
I have to go to the basement... I opened the door... The night was dark, like thick ink splashing across the sky. I walked out of the room lightly. The corridor was quiet, with only the wall lamps emitting a dim light. I clenched the button in my hand, my heart pounding. The entrance to the Shen family's basement was behind an inconspicuous rockery in the corner of the garden.
I crouched down, trying not to make any noise, and walked through the garden. The night wind blew, and the leaves rustled, adding to the tense atmosphere. When I arrived in front of the rockery, I took a deep breath, and according to the method in my memory, I moved a stone, revealing the entrance to the basement.
The entrance was pitch black and exuded a damp, moldy smell. I hesitated for a moment, then took out my phone, turned on the flashlight, and walked in carefully.
The basement was filled with clutter and dust, and the air was filled with a suffocating sense of oppression. I shone the flashlight around, hoping to find some clues. The worn-out furniture, dusty books, rusty tools... everything seemed so old and mysterious.
I walked forward along the narrow passage, and from time to time there was a creaking sound under my feet, as if warning me not to go any deeper. I held my breath and tried to keep myself calm.
Suddenly, my flashlight shone on an iron door. The iron door was rusty and had a heavy lock on it. My heart tightened. Could this be the place I was looking for?
I tried pulling the door handle, but the wire didn't move. It seemed that I had no choice but to find a way to open the lock. I took out a thin wire from my pocket. This was a little trick I had learned before, and I didn't expect it to come in handy now.
I held my breath, inserted the wire into the keyhole, and turned it gently. Time passed by minute by minute, and beads of sweat appeared on my forehead. Finally, with a click, the lock opened.
I slowly pushed open the iron door, and a stronger moldy smell hit me. It was a small room with only a desk and a filing cabinet. Everything on the desk was covered with white cloth, so I couldn't see what it was.
I walked to the filing cabinet and opened the drawer. It was filled with various documents, some of which were yellowed and some were even damaged. I flipped through them casually. Most of them were accounts and reports. There didn't seem to be anything special.
Just when I was about to give up, my eyes fell on a drawer at the bottom of the filing cabinet. This drawer was locked, and the lock style was very special, completely different from the lock on the iron door.
I thought to myself, is there some important secret hidden in it? I took out the wire again and tried to open the lock. However, this lock was much more complicated than I thought, and I failed after several attempts.
I was a little frustrated and was about to give up when suddenly I felt someone behind me... I turned around abruptly... "Who?"
There was no one behind me. I cursed myself for being so nervous. Taking a deep breath, I focused my attention on the lock again. This time, I was more careful and didn't dare to be distracted. Finally, after countless attempts, the lock opened with a click.
I carefully opened the drawer, and there was only a file bag inside. I took out the file bag, opened it, and saw some documents and photos inside. I quickly browsed through them, and my face gradually became solemn. These documents seemed to be related to a series of security incidents that had occurred in the Shen family recently. One of the documents recorded in detail the layout of the security system of the Shen family villa, and even the locations of some hidden cameras were clearly marked. In the photo, there were several sneaky figures. Although their faces could not be seen clearly, judging from their figure and clothing, they looked like internal staff of the Shen family.
Could it be... My heart sank. Could it be that someone in the Shen family deliberately leaked the security information? This is too scary. I was just about to study these documents carefully, when suddenly, I heard a burst of hurried footsteps behind me. I turned my head sharply and a dark shadow flashed by. Before I could react, the document bag in my hand was snatched away.
"Who?" I shouted and immediately chased after him. The shadow was very fast, running all the way along the corridor. I chased him closely, but I always kept a distance from him.
During the chase, I caught a glimpse of the shadow holding a lighter and a briefcase. My heart sank. He wanted to destroy the evidence! I quickened my pace, but the shadow had already reached the exit of the basement. He pushed open the iron door and rushed out. I followed him closely, but he locked the iron door behind me.
