Chapter 8 Quickly Transmigrated! Got Bankrupt Overnight and Became the Young Master’s Bodyguard (17)

I struggled in anxiety and fear like a trapped beast, trying to maintain a calm surface. However, the repressed emotions were like a balloon that kept expanding and could explode at any time.

One night, Haoxuan found me again. "Yuxuan," he said with a hint of helplessness and distress, "What's wrong with you? Why are you hiding from me?"

I looked at his concerned eyes, and my heart was filled with bitterness. I wanted to tell him everything and let him help me face it, but I couldn't. I couldn't put him in danger.

I took a deep breath and forced myself to smile. "It's nothing. I'm just... a little tired."

Haoxuan obviously didn't believe my explanation. He frowned and wanted to say something. At this moment, a bodyguard ran over and said, "Master Haoxuan, Captain Zhao is here. He said he wants to see Mr. Feng for something."

Captain Zhao? Why did he come to see me? I had a bad feeling in my heart. I turned to look at Haoxuan, and his eyes were also full of doubts.

I followed the bodyguard to the living room. Captain Zhao was sitting on the sofa, holding a file bag in his hand and wearing a meaningful smile on his face. He saw me, stood up, patted my shoulder, and said in a creepy and intimate tone, "Mr. Feng, long time no see."

Seeing his malicious smile, I had a bad feeling...

Captain Zhao looked me up and down with a fake smile, his eyes seemed to be looking at a new arrival, which made me feel uncomfortable. "Mr. Feng is indeed a young and promising man. It has only been a few days since he won the appreciation of Master Haoxuan." He said, handing me the document bag in his hand, "This is your new task, patrol."

I took the file bag and my heart sank. Patrol? This is the hardest and most tiring job among the Shen family bodyguards, usually assigned to newcomers or bodyguards who have made mistakes. This is only my first day on the job, and I...

"Captain Zhao, this..." I tried to explain, but was interrupted by Captain Zhao.

"Why? Mr. Feng doesn't want to?" He raised his eyebrows, with a hint of sarcasm in his tone, "This was arranged by Young Master Haoxuan himself. If you have any opinions, you can go and talk to him directly."

Haoxuan? I subconsciously looked towards the living room. Haoxuan was standing by the window, with his back to me. I couldn't see his expression. I felt a surge of bitterness in my heart. Could it be that... he also thought that I should accept this "punishment"?

"No, I am willing." I took a deep breath, suppressed the bitterness in my heart, and opened the file bag. Inside was a detailed patrol route map that covered the entire Shen family estate, including some remote corners and areas with complex terrain.

"Very good." Captain Zhao nodded with satisfaction. "Let's get started now. It's raining outside. I hope Mr. Feng can overcome the difficulties and complete the task."

Raining? I walked to the window and saw the wind and rain outside. The big raindrops hit the ground fiercely, splashing water. This is clearly a deliberate trick! I clenched my fists, and my nails dug deep into my palms.

"What? Mr. Feng, do you have any other questions?" Captain Zhao's voice rang out again, with a hint of teasing.

I turned to look at him, trying to control the anger in my heart. "No." I stuffed the file bag into my pocket and turned to walk out the door.

When I reached the door, I heard a sigh from behind. I paused but didn't look back. I knew it was Haoxuan's voice. I didn't dare to think about what his sigh contained.

The cold rain hit my face and slid down my cheeks like tears. I walked forward step by step along the patrol route. The wind was strong and the rain was heavy. I could hardly open my eyes. My clothes were quickly soaked by the rain and stuck to my body. I was shivering with cold.

I held the document bag tightly, as if it was the only warmth. I told myself that I couldn't fall down, I had to hold on. For myself, and for... him.

As I was walking, I suddenly heard a slight noise coming from the front. I stopped in alarm, held my breath, and listened carefully.

"Who's there?" a deep voice sounded...

The rain blurred my vision, and I squinted my eyes, trying to see the direction of the sound. The swaying shadows of the trees and the howling of the wind made it even more difficult for me to distinguish. I held the flashlight tightly in my hand and walked forward slowly, my footsteps light and silent.

"Who's there?" I asked again, my voice louder than before, with a hint of warning.

In response, I heard a series of rustling sounds, like someone moving in the grass. My heart tensed up and I immediately became alert. Could it be that someone had sneaked into the manor?

I quickened my pace and ran towards the direction of the sound. The rain hit my face, making it almost impossible for me to open my eyes, but I didn't dare to stop. If someone really sneaked in, I had to catch him as soon as possible.

Pushing aside the dense bushes, I saw a blurry figure squatting there, seemingly fiddling with something.

"What are you doing?" I shouted, pointing the flashlight at him.

The man was startled by the sudden light and raised his head suddenly. With the help of the flashlight, I finally saw his face clearly.

It was a young bodyguard, with a look of panic and uneasiness on his face. "Mr. Lin... Feng..." he stammered, "I... I..."

"What are you doing?" I asked again, still in a stern tone.

He hesitated for a long time before hesitatingly saying, "I...I feel sick in my stomach, I want to...I want to find a place..."

I then noticed that the bushes behind him were a little messy and there was a strange smell coming from them. I immediately understood what was going on and the tension in my heart dissipated.

"Be more careful next time." I said lightly, then turned around and prepared to leave.

"Mr. Feng..." He called me, with a hint of gratitude in his tone, "Thank you."

I didn't look back, just nodded slightly and continued my patrol.

It was almost dawn when I returned to the main building. I was soaking wet and shivering with cold. I changed my wet clothes, wiped myself off, and was about to take a rest when I heard a knock on the door.

"Mr. Feng, Captain Zhao wants you to come over." The voice of a young bodyguard came from outside the door.

My heart sank. Captain Zhao must be looking for me at this time for no good reason. But I still took a deep breath and opened the door.

"Mr. Feng, thank you for your hard work." The young bodyguard smiled at me, "Captain Zhao is waiting for you in the office."

I followed him to Captain Zhao's office. As soon as I entered the door, I heard a burst of sarcastic laughter coming from inside.
