Chapter 98 Quickly Transmigrated! Going Bankrupt Overnight and Becoming the Young Master’s Bodyguard (Part 7)
Shen Haoxuan seemed to have seen what Zhang was up to, but he didn't say anything. He just sat there quietly, observing my every move. I took a deep breath, looked at Li Dali firmly, and said to myself, "Come over here!"
As soon as Manager Zhang gave the order, Li Dali rushed towards me like a tiger descending from a mountain...
Li Dali was a big man, as strong as an ox. I didn't dare to confront him head-on, so I could only deal with him with agility. He threw a punch, I dodged it, and grabbed his arm, trying to control him. But he was too strong, and I couldn't completely subdue him for a while. He struggled hard, broke free from my control, and punched me again with his backhand.
I dodged again, but this time he had expected it and kicked me in the lower body. I reacted quickly and jumped to avoid it, but when I landed, I accidentally stepped on a small stone and stumbled. Li Dali saw this, a glimmer of pride flashed in his eyes, and he rushed towards me again.
At the critical moment, I was quick-witted and fell backwards, hooking my foot around Li Dali's legs. He was caught off guard, lost his balance, and fell heavily to the ground. I took the opportunity to turn over and quickly control him.
The whole process is a long story, but it actually only took a few seconds. Although I won by taking advantage of the situation, I didn't dare to relax at all. I knew that this was just the beginning, and Manager Zhang must have another trick up his sleeve.
After I controlled Li Dali, I immediately turned to Shen Haoxuan to make sure he was safe. "Master Shen, are you okay?"
Shen Haoxuan nodded slightly, with a hint of admiration in his eyes. "You did a great job."
Hearing his affirmation, my heart was warmed, and the tension and pressure I had previously felt dissipated. This simple compliment meant a lot to me.
Manager Zhang's face became even gloomier. He didn't expect that I could subdue Li Dali so easily. He coughed lightly, walked to Shen Haoxuan, and whispered, "Master Shen, this is just a simple test, and it can't fully reflect the true ability of a bodyguard. Although Feng Ziang is good at fighting, he lacks practical experience after all. If he encounters real danger, I'm afraid..."
I interrupted him before he finished speaking. "Manager Zhang, you are right. I do lack practical experience, but that does not mean I am incapable of protecting Master Shen. I admit that Li Dali is very strong, but I believe that as long as I keep learning and working hard, I will be able to become a qualified bodyguard."
I spoke with a firm tone and looked directly at Manager Zhang, not afraid of his questioning at all.
"That's easy to say!" Manager Zhang sneered, "Practical experience can't be accumulated overnight. Do you think you can make up for this gap just by talking?"
"I know that words alone are useless," I took a deep breath and said more firmly, "I will use my actions to prove my ability. I believe that as long as you give me a chance, I will not let you down."
Manager Zhang wanted to say something, but Shen Haoxuan raised his hand to stop him. He looked at me with deep eyes that were hard to read. "Feng Ziang," he said slowly, "You said you are willing to prove your ability with actions, then..." He paused and looked out the window, as if thinking about something.
Shen Haoxuan's eyes drifted out the window. The glass curtain wall of the skyscraper reflected the light of the sky, which made me a little blind. His face was hidden in the intersection of light and shadow, dark and unclear, making it difficult to understand his thoughts. The office fell into silence, with only the second hand of the wall clock making a slight "tick-tock" sound, hitting my nerves one by one.
Time seemed to be stretched infinitely, and every second seemed as long as a century. My heart was hanging in the air, nervously waiting for his final verdict. I tried hard to control my breathing and not let it appear too rapid, but beads of sweat had already seeped out of my palms.
Manager Zhang stood aside, with a barely perceptible sneer on his face. He seemed to have anticipated the outcome, his eyes full of pride and mockery. I glanced at him, feeling even more uneasy. Wasn't he trying to stop me from getting hired by making things so difficult before? Did he really succeed?
Secretary Wang was expressionless as always, as if none of this had anything to do with her. She just stood quietly behind Shen Haoxuan, like a sculpture, without any emotional fluctuations. Her indifference made me feel even more uneasy.
"Feng Ziang..." Shen Haoxuan finally spoke. His voice was deep and magnetic, but it carried a hint of elusive meaning. I held my breath, waiting for his next words.
He paused, and then turned his gaze from the window to me. His eyes were deep and sharp, as if they could see through my heart. "You are very special."
"Special?" I was a little confused, not understanding what he meant by this. Was it a compliment or an insult?
He didn't explain, but continued, "You are different from the other applicants."
My heart sank slightly. Was it because of my background? Because I was once a rich young master, but now I have fallen to the point of being a bodyguard for others? This gap in status might be seen as an irony and a joke to him.
"There's a kind of..." He paused again, as if searching for the right words, "a kind of unyielding tenacity in your eyes."
I was stunned. I didn't expect him to say that. I really didn't want to sink into depravity. I wanted to stand up again with my own efforts and prove my own worth.
"I admire your resilience," he finally said. My heart settled down. It seemed that I still had a chance.
However, his next words made me confused again. "But..."
My heart sank suddenly and an ominous premonition came over me.
He stood up, walked in front of me, and looked down at me, with a look of scrutiny and inquiry in his eyes. "But are you really ready? Becoming my bodyguard is not an easy task."
His tone was meaningful, and I couldn't figure out what he was really thinking. I raised my head, met his gaze, and answered firmly, "I'm ready!"
He smiled slightly, but there was a hint of elusive meaning in his smile. "Very good," he extended his hand, "Then, welcome to join the Shen family."
I reached out my hand and shook his. His hand was dry and warm, yet with a barely perceptible chill. Just when I thought everything was settled, he suddenly leaned close to my ear and whispered, "However, there are some rules that you'd better understand in advance..."
His voice was low and hoarse, with a hint of warning. My heartbeat quickened and a chill ran from my feet to my head.
