She will never forget the first words the little girl in tattered clothes said to her when she stood in front of her.
"Ah? Applying?" The boss's wife glared at her. "We're not hiring right now. If you're looking for a job, look somewhere else."
Bei Yutang did not leave because of her refusal. "I don't want a salary. You just need to give me a place to live and a meal to eat."
"This..." The proprietress was in a dilemma.
By doing this she was clearly taking advantage of her.
"That's not good. You should look somewhere else."
Bei Yutang's smile was slightly bitter. "Boss, I really have nowhere to go. I just want a meal to eat."
The proprietress saw that she was really pitiful, with her tattered clothes. If she drove her away, she would probably have to sleep on the streets.
"Okay. How about five dollars a month for room and board?"

The two entered the Happy Restaurant one after the other. The staff inside the restaurant was simple, with only one chef, one kitchen helper, one waiter, and the proprietress. Now, with Bei Yutang included, there were only five people in total.
"Madam, who is this person?" Xiaojuan, the only waitress in the store, asked.
The lady boss called out the two people from the kitchen and said to the three of them, "Come, let me introduce you. This is my new hire, his name is..."
The proprietress turned around and asked Bei Yutang, "What's your name?"
"Bei Yutang. Bei means the scenery of the northern country, Yu means the continuous spring rain, and Tang means the intoxicating crabapple blossoms." Bei Yutang said to the few people with a smile.
"What a nice name," the chef said with a smile. He then turned to the proprietress and joked, "Madam, you're really hiring someone like that. You don't even know their name."
The lady boss glared at him and said, "Go away. I hire people based on my chemistry. Everything else is just a passing fancy."
Bei Yutang watched them joking with each other, and her lips curled up unconsciously. In the original owner Bei Yutang's memory, there were many such scenes. It was the only scene that made her feel that the world had color during those years of torture.
The boss lady said to Bei Yutang, "This fat guy is our chef. You can call him Uncle Wang. This is his apprentice, Guo Yang. This little girl is Wang Xiaoyu. As for me, my last name is Zhou. You can call me Boss Lady or Sister Zhou."
Bei Yutang nodded.
"You guys go do what you need to do. I'll take Yutang upstairs."
The proprietress took Bei Yutang up to the second floor, which was used for living. The proprietress lived up there, along with Wang Xiaoyu. Uncle Wang and Guo Yang both lived outside.
The landlady opened a small room, and a cloud of dust suddenly blew in. It was a storage room, filled with many things and a simple bed.
The proprietress said to Bei Yutang embarrassedly, "Yutang, you will stay here for the time being. When the room next door is ready, you can move in."
"No thanks. This place is fine. Just clean it up and it'll be fine."
Bei Yutang asked for the direction of the bathroom, took a rag and started to tidy up the utility room.
"Sister Zhou, I'll do it myself. It's almost dinner time and the guests will be here soon." Bei Yutang reminded.
"Then clean up first. If you have any questions, come down and tell me."
"Um."
