"When she comes over later, can you ask her name?"
Everyone looked at me and gave me some advice.
Xiao Yan, who had been silent all this time, suddenly said something.
"Are you here to eat or what?"
Instantly, the scene became quiet. Everyone looked at each other, glanced at the stern-faced Boss Xiao Yan, and then shut up obediently.
After a long while, the atmosphere became lively again, but no one mentioned Bei Yutang anymore.
A group of people were drinking, but Xiao Yan was the only one who was quietly drinking boiled water. His eyes unconsciously followed the busy figures in the store, which he himself did not even realize.
"Boss Xiao, what are you looking at?" asked one of the slightly drunk non-commissioned officers with his tongue sticking out.
"Nothing." Xiao Yan looked away.
The sergeant didn't believe it and looked in the direction he had just gone. He saw a table of diners opposite him and there was nothing special about them, so he withdrew his gaze and continued drinking.
An hour later, everyone was drunk except Xiao Yan.
He walked to the counter and said, "Check out."
The proprietress glanced in the direction of their table and then clattered on her abacus. "That's thirty-eight and fifty cents. To make it even, just give me thirty-eight dollars."
The proprietress looked up and saw Xiao Yan's eyes on Bei Yutang.
She raised her eyebrows and coughed lightly. Xiao Yan calmly withdrew his gaze, pulled out a stack of banknotes from his pocket and took out four.
After they left, the proprietress turned to Bei Yutang and asked, "Yutang, do you know that man?"
Bei Yutang replied without thinking, "I don't know him."
The proprietress just said "oh" and didn't care.
The next day, Xiao Yan showed up again. This time, he was still with a group of people, but this time, they didn't drink, they just had a meal.
The proprietress recognized these people at a glance, especially Xiao Yan.
When Bei Yutang was serving dishes, the proprietress caught Xiao Yan's vague gaze on Bei Yutang several times, and she couldn't help but stare at Xiao Yan vigilantly.
She thought Xiao Yan would say something to Bei Yutang, or do something, but she found that the two of them did not communicate at all. After eating, they left calmly, as if they had simply come to eat.
The proprietress slapped her forehead.
Oh, it seems I was overthinking it.
but……
On the third day, Xiao Yan came again, this time alone, ordering two dishes and a soup.
The person who ordered the food for him this time was Bei Yutang. When Bei Yutang came back, the proprietress grabbed her and asked with a gossipy look on her face, "Yutang, did he say anything to you?"
"have."
The proprietress suddenly became interested, her eyes shining, "What did you say?"
"One serving of stir-fried beef with chili peppers, one serving of spicy cabbage, one serving of tomato and egg soup and a bowl of rice." Bei Yutang answered truthfully.
"I said it's not this, it's something else."
"No more. That's all he said." Bei Yutang said frankly.
"How is that possible?" The proprietress was a little unconvinced, but looking at Bei Yutang's expression, she didn't seem to be lying. Alas, she felt an indescribable sense of loss.
She always felt that something would happen between them, but the reality told her that nothing happened. How disappointing!
"Sister Zhou, if there's nothing else, I have to get busy."
The proprietress waved her hand weakly.
