"Get out of here, I don't have any money to give you."
As the words fell, a thin figure was kicked heavily onto the yellow mud ground, splashing a layer of yellow sand.
Everyone who was resting there turned to look at the person on the ground, and saw a disheveled woman getting up from the ground in a mess, limping towards the people in other teams.
"Sir, can you give me some money?"
"No, no." Those people waved their hands impatiently.
The woman, after asking questions along the way, only managed to collect a few copper coins. She walked up to Bei Yutang and his group, her sallow face fixed on them. "Sir, Miss, could you please give me some money? My son is sick and I have no money for medical treatment. I beg you to be kind."
When Xue Qian heard someone was sick, he hurriedly asked, "Where is your son?"
The woman was stunned and found herself on the ox cart behind.
"I'll go take a look."
"You, you're a doctor?"
Xue Qian nodded.
The woman was overjoyed, but when she thought about her financial situation, the joy on her face faded a little. "I, I don't have much money."
"It's okay, I don't charge any money."
The woman's face showed a smile again, and she kept bowing to her and thanking her, "Thank you, thank you."
Dai Xiang followed Xue Qian over, while Bei Yutang and Xiao Moer sat there without moving.
Although he doesn't like Xue Qian, he has to admit that his medical skills are still very advanced.
Xue Qian followed the woman to the ox cart, which was covered with a layer of straw. A person was lying on it, covered with a thick quilt.
Xue Qian took a look and ordered, "The sun is high in the sky now. Covering him like this is not good for his health. Change the quilt to a thinner one and tell me about his condition first."
"Good, good," the woman nodded repeatedly. "Three days ago, he started having a fever and chest tightness and pain. I gave him some medicine, but it didn't help. Now it's the third day, and his fever hasn't subsided. The doctor said if this continues, he'll die."
At this point, the woman's voice became choked.
Xue Qian lifted a corner of the quilt and saw red marks on his arms. He hurriedly checked his neck, back and other parts of his body, and saw red marks everywhere. There were even some places with obvious tiny pimples.
When the man pulling the oxcart saw the tiny pox, his eyes widened and he exclaimed, "Smallpox."
"It's smallpox, it's smallpox." The man pulling the ox cart jumped away and stayed away from them.
Everyone who was resting turned to look at them, and the woman panicked. Her son only had a fever, so how could it turn out to be fatal smallpox?
Everyone who was resting here had a look of fear on their faces.
Bei Yutang and Xiao Moer stood up and walked towards the ox cart.
"What are you doing over there? That man has smallpox." Someone stopped them.
Bei Yutang said to the newcomer, "We are doctors."
The businessmen and travelers who were resting here stood up one after another and fled away. In the blink of an eye, only Bei Yutang and his group, as well as the mother and son, were left under the crowded woods.
"Doctor, my son doesn't have smallpox, right?" The woman looked at Xue Qian with hope.
Judging from his symptoms, he was most likely suffering from smallpox.
Xue Qian knew that this news would be a huge blow to her, so as a doctor, he told her the truth.
"It's smallpox."
The woman staggered and almost fell to the ground.
