"Sir, why are you arresting me? I haven't done anything against the law."
"Don't talk nonsense. Just answer whatever the adults ask you."
The man nodded hurriedly, "Yes, yes, yes."
Bei Yutang asked, "What were you doing yesterday?"
He thought for a moment and replied, "I didn't do anything. I just stood guard at the county government gate."
"You haven't left for a quarter of an hour?" Bei Yutang stared at him with sharp eyes.
The man was frightened by her gaze, "No, no. The princess is in the mansion, how dare we be lazy."
Bei Yutang caught the loophole in his words and said, "If you do this, you will be lazy even if the princess is not at home?"
The man's face froze, "I never said that."
"Tell me the truth, why don't you dare to slack off when the princess is around?"
The man hesitated, not daring to speak. When the servant showed his knife, he finally spoke, "Last time, one of the gatekeepers met with his fiancée while on duty. They chatted for a while, and the princess happened to see him. She immediately gave him a beating and kicked him out of the palace. We on duty won't dare to be lazy again."
"So you stayed at the door the entire time yesterday and didn't move a step?"
The man nodded affirmatively.
"Did anything happen yesterday? Answer truthfully."
"No." The man replied without thinking.
"Really?"
"Really not. Sir, what happened?" The man looked at everyone with a tearful face.
Bei Yutang waved his hand, and the servant took the person out.
"Mother, that person doesn't seem to be lying."
Bei Yutang nodded in response, and it really didn't seem like he was lying.
"Aunt Li and the others couldn't find the county government, so where would they go?" Xiao Moer was confused.
This is really confusing.
Li Guixiang and Wang Tiezhu seemed to have disappeared out of thin air. As for Qin Yi, it seemed that they were arrested simply because someone reported them.
No, if it was just a simple report, why would they be silenced?
Wait, report...
"Find the person who reported it."
Then the person who reported the incident was found from Qin Yi. That person turned out to be the man who used to drive the ox cart for Li Guixiang.
From his mouth, I learned that he accidentally saw several of them entering the Sunrise Inn, and remembered that there was a reward for reporting smallpox, so he went to report it.
As for the arson incident, because it happened in secret, Bei Yutang could not let them confront Qin Yi. Even if they confronted him, Qin Yi would just deny it and they had no evidence. Not only would they not get any clues, but he would bite them back.
At this point, all clues were cut off, as if this was just a simple misunderstanding.
Bei Yutang and his group were busy with this matter for the entire day and did not have a good time to get together.
"Don't worry, Auntie Mu. As long as they are in Kyoto, I will find them for you."
"Yeah. Two living people can't just disappear out of thin air." Chu Yu said, "Let's go to Tianxianglou for dinner. It's my treat."
"Let's go."
Bei Yutang also hoped that he was overthinking it.
In the private room of Tianxiang Tower, Chu Yu ordered a table full of dishes to welcome Bei Yutang and others.
"I've heard of Aunt Mu's great name for a long time. Seeing her today, I'm sure she's extraordinary. Let me drink first as a token of my respect." Chu Yu drank the wine in his glass happily.
Bei Yutang followed suit and drank the wine in the glass.
"Auntie Mu, how many days do you plan to stay in Kyoto?" Hua Ziyun looked at her expectantly.
