After Wan Ge realized what was happening, she immediately picked up the bowl and held it to his lips.
Feng Ji opened his mouth and drank the medicine directly. When Wan Ge saw that his expression did not change, she thought of how he had been in poor health since childhood. He was probably used to taking medicine so he didn't feel anything was wrong.
Is it bitter?
Feng Ji nodded, then explained, "It's alright, I'm used to it."
Wan Ge felt a pang of heartache thinking about how often he took medicine, and picked up some candied fruit that had been prepared beside her: "Husband, you'll feel much better after eating one."
Feng Ji obediently opened his mouth and ate the candied fruit that he handed him.
Looking at his calm and unchanging expression, Wan Ge realized that he seemed to be like this no matter what.
She had no idea what Feng Ji was thinking at that moment.
At this moment, Feng Ji's heart was in turmoil: His wife came to see him, she was worried about him! She still loves him, right? He must have done something to upset his wife, which is why she said she wanted a divorce.
Once my wife calms down, she won't divorce me.
My wife was worried that the medicine would taste bitter, so she specially prepared candied fruit for me. How could my wife be so kind?
Feng Ji grasped Wan Ge's hand, thinking to himself: "Madam's hand is so warm, Madam's hand is so nice to touch, I want to hold Madam's hand forever."
So why does Madam want a divorce? Why hasn't Zhuiying found out yet? I must eliminate all threats from Madam that she wants a divorce.
…
Wan Ge and the servant put the man down again, letting him lie back on the bed: "Husband, take your medicine and get some sleep. Maybe you'll feel better when you wake up."
Feng Ji still held onto the other's hand tightly, and for the first time, Wan Ge saw a pitiful expression on the other's face: "Madam, please don't go."
Wan Ge thought that sick people are more vulnerable, and now that he was sick, he rarely showed his vulnerable side: "Okay, I won't leave. I'll stay here with you."
"Thank you, Madam." Feng Ji closed his eyes only after hearing her assurance.
After Feng Ji fell asleep, Wan Ge dismissed everyone. Looking at the stunningly beautiful woman before her, Wan Ge couldn't help but clutch her heart with her fingertips.
Her husband was so handsome that she would fall in love at first sight. She couldn't have been happier or more excited when she found out she would marry him.
However, on their wedding day, her husband told her that he was physically weak and could not have sex with her for the time being.
At that time, she didn't take it seriously. She knew her husband wasn't in good health and thought she might be able to help him recover gradually.
But she later learned that the real reason her husband was unwilling to share a room with her was that he already had someone he loved, and the reason he married her was only because of his parents' wishes.
After learning about this, Wan Ge understood why he sometimes avoided her when she took the initiative and was so cold to her. At first, she thought he was just not used to it yet, but after learning about these things, Wan Ge stopped taking the initiative.
Since he already has someone he likes, I should just behave myself and be content as long as I can catch a glimpse of him.
That was truly what she originally thought, but as time went on, she couldn't bear it anymore. She couldn't stand seeing the person she loved having someone else in his heart, and she didn't want to accept that her husband didn't actually like her.
Until recently, she had a nightmare in which she was unable to win her husband's love and spent her remaining years alone and helpless.
She had long since taken control of the household affairs, but her husband's heart belonged to another woman. He served that woman faithfully and died because of her.
She had no freedom despite possessing a vast fortune, no children to rely on, and her parents had passed away in her later years, leaving her all alone.
In her dream, she seemed to deeply regret her life. Upon waking, Wan Ge wiped away her tears and resolved that if this was how she was going to live the rest of her life, then she didn't want it anymore. She let go of her husband and herself, and so yesterday she proposed a divorce.
Unexpectedly, shortly after she proposed a divorce, her husband fell seriously ill and is now bedridden.
Seeing him like this, Wan Ge felt conflicted. She was sad that he was sick, but she also wondered if she should be soft-hearted. Even if he was sick, he would get better one day. After all, in her dream, her husband had to shield the person he loved from an arrow. Back then, he was lively and energetic, unlike how he was now.
After Wan Ge had this thought, she felt it was absurd for a moment. What was she thinking? It was just a dream, but it felt so real.
Wan Ge tried hard to shake off those inexplicable thoughts from her mind. She would wait until he recovered from his illness before discussing it further. Besides, her in-laws would be coming back soon, and she needed to tell them about her divorce.
Her parents-in-law treated her extremely well. Since she married into the family, she has never suffered any grievances in terms of food, clothing, housing, or the attitude of the servants.
If her husband hadn't been so indifferent to her, and if she hadn't had that nightmare, perhaps she wouldn't have been willing to divorce him.
…
Wan Ge didn't know what happened to her, but she fell asleep while thinking and woke up next to Feng Ji.
Wange had no idea that the problem was with the incense burning in Fengji's room. It was a sleeping incense, but Fengji had long since developed a tolerance to it, so he couldn't fall asleep at all. But Wange was different.
After she woke up, she got up and subconsciously touched Feng Ji's head. He no longer had a fever, and his complexion seemed better than yesterday. However, he was still asleep, probably because he was too tired from being sick.
Wan Ge quickly got off his bed. If he knew that she was lying next to him, would he be angry?
