Mr. Duan gently patted her back: "What's wrong? Why are you crying so sadly? Did you have a disagreement with your godmother?"
Mr. Duan knew that his daughter would occasionally visit the other party after starting junior high school. He did not stop her.
Wan Ge spoke again: "She's not my godmother anymore, not anymore. Did you already know she was the one who killed my mother? Why didn't you tell me?"
Mr. Duan paused for a moment, then continued to gently pat her back: "You had just lost your mother at that time. If I told you that your mother was killed by your godmother, I was afraid you wouldn't be able to handle the shock."
"Then why don't you explain anything else? Explain that you didn't cheat on your wife, and that you didn't intend to hurt Mom."
Mr. Duan lowered his head: "If it weren't for me, your mother wouldn't have passed away so early. It's my fault, and it's understandable that you resent me."
"No! You're the one who did wrong, she's the one." The mother believed her friend was innocent, and so did the father. The one who did wrong was clearly the bad person; neither of them should blame themselves.
"I'm sorry, I've misunderstood you for so many years."
Mr. Duan shook his head again: "No, it's not your fault, it's that your father didn't tell you. You must have been very sad all these years, right? It's because your father didn't take care of your feelings and failed your mother's wishes."
"Let's go home, I want to eat Zhang Ma's wontons."
"Okay, Dad will take you home."
After Wan Ge got into the car, she saw the call notification from Xie Shuye and immediately sent him a message to tell him that she was fine, that she was going to the Duan family now, and that she would go back later.
Mr. Duan glanced at the message and saw who Wan Ge had sent it to. He then said, "I think your boyfriend is pretty good. If you really like him and he doesn't have any problems, Dad won't object to you two."
He could tell that Wan Ge really liked him and didn't treat him like a plaything at all; she clearly saw him as her future partner.
"I understand, thank you, Dad. I'll think things through regarding him and me."
…
When Wan Ge returned home, Madam Duan was also there. She seemed to be in a good mood, but Madam Duan was always a little cautious whenever she saw Wan Ge.
"Aunt Zhou," Wan Ge called out.
The other person paused for a moment, then quickly replied, "Wange's back. Why are you a little wet? Go change your clothes quickly so you don't catch a cold."
"Okay, I'll go change my clothes first." After answering, Wan Ge went upstairs.
When they changed their clothes and went downstairs, only Madam Duan was there.
When Madam Duan saw her come down, she immediately said, "Wange's down. Auntie made you some ginger tea to help you avoid catching a cold. Would you like some?"
"Okay, thank you, Aunt Zhou." Wan Ge sat down obediently and finished the ginger tea that Aunt Zhou had brewed.
Seeing the other person's somewhat smug expression, Wan Ge felt a pang of guilt. She explained that she had misunderstood her for so many years and had treated her extremely poorly.
"Aunt Zhou, I'm sorry."
Mrs. Duan was somewhat bewildered: "What's wrong? Why are you apologizing to me? Didn't something happen?"
Seeing the other person's nervous expression, Wan Ge felt even more guilty: "I'm sorry, I misunderstood you. I used to think that you were the one who ruined my parents' relationship, which led to my mother's depression and death. I only found out yesterday that there was a misunderstanding."
