He really wanted to know what Wan Ge was thinking. He had come so impulsively, and he wondered if she was moved or scared.
…
That afternoon, Ye Jue invited her to the educated youth settlement, saying that he needed her help with something.
Faced with her minor villain, Wange would definitely help without hesitation, so she went straight there.
When they arrived, Ye Jue took out the violin: "I heard you have experience with violins before. I feel like there's something wrong with this violin, so I'd like to ask you to help me fix it."
After checking the results of the evening performance, it was discovered that the strings were a bit loose, which caused the pitch to be out of tune.
Although the original owner had some experience with the violin, it wasn't for long and she didn't know much about it. But Wan Ge knew, and she could spot the problem at a glance.
Since she knows how to tune the sound anyway, it doesn't matter if she helps him tune it.
Wan Ge wasn't puzzled by the other person's question; she clearly knew how to mix it herself, so why did she need to invite her?
Wan Ge believed that the other party did this because he wanted to see her, and she was still very happy that her man wanted to see her.
However, it turned out that the other party did not seem to want to contact him alone.
As soon as she entered the room, Wan Ge sensed that there was another person in the room, who was just hiding.
She didn't believe Ye Jue was unaware, so the other party must have done it on purpose, and she didn't know what he wanted to do.
…
Ye Jue said casually, "By the way, I heard you broke off your engagement with Chi Qing."
Wan Ge smiled and replied, "You can't say that. After all, the Duan family was engaged to him, and the engagement shouldn't be nullified now; it's just that the person has changed."
The marriage was actually arranged between two families, not just one person.
Previously, she was the only child in the Duan family, so the original owner naturally assumed that the two of them would become husband and wife in the future.
But now that she is no longer a daughter of the Duan family, she naturally has nothing to do with Chi Qing.
"Did our sudden arrival startle you?" Ye Jue was about to ask.
Wan Ge nodded: "You two are research talents, and you are both being given special training. I don't understand why you suddenly came."
They couldn't understand why the organization would release them, since every extra day they stayed in the lab meant that some results would come out a day earlier.
So the organization's behavior of releasing prisoners is quite strange, especially since they released the two of them together.
However, she was still very happy that Ye Jue had taken the initiative to appear in front of her.
Ye Jue didn't seem to intend to hide anything from her: "Actually, I came here on a mission, but I have to keep it a secret for now."
Wan Ge gave him an "I see" look: "No wonder they let you go to the countryside, I see."
"If you weren't engaged, would you want to date him?"
When Wan Ge heard him ask that question, she smiled and asked him in return, "You want to ask me if I like him?"
"Hmm." Ye Jue nodded, his hand unconsciously clenching into a fist in his pocket.
“I don’t like him, and I wouldn’t consider him as my partner if we weren’t engaged.”
"Why?" Ye Jue was a little surprised. He thought the two of them had feelings for each other, but the other party's sudden resolute answer stunned him.
Wan Ge answered his question again: "Although he is very good, whether it is his family background, personality or appearance, he is exceptionally good. But I don't like him that way."
"So what kind do you like?" Ye Jue asked, looking at her again.
Wan Ge stood up abruptly, looked down at the man in front of her, then reached out and pinched his chin, leaning close to him and whispering in his ear, "I like you just the way you are."
When she released him, her warm lips seemed to brush against his cheek unintentionally, yet they made Ye Jue's heart pound like a drum.
"The zither has been fixed for you. If there's nothing else, I'll head back now. See you next time." I suppose the time before we meet again won't be too long.
After finishing her speech, Wan Ge handed the instrument to the other person and then turned and left.
…
Only after Wan Ge had completely left did Chi Qing emerge from a cabinet.
Chi Qing looked at Ye Jue in front of her and asked, "When she approached you, did she tell you what type of person she liked?"
Why did she feel that Wan Ge's gaze towards him was unusual? And what kind of person did she like so mysteriously that she had to get so close to whisper it to him?
Ye Jue hummed in response, his hands clenched into fists, but he maintained a calm and composed demeanor.
"You just 'hmm' and that's it? And then? Did she even say what kind of girl she likes?"
Ye Jue remained silent for a moment without answering his question.
Looking at him like this, and considering how familiar she was with him, Chi Qing suddenly guessed that Wan Ge must have said something, but the answer might make her very unhappy, so Ye Jue didn't answer him.
Chi Qing's face instantly fell, and she looked like she was about to cry: "Waaah! A-Jue, we grew up together as childhood sweethearts, and I even thought we would get married, but the person she likes isn't me!"
How could this happen? She used to be gentle, sensible, and obedient in front of him, and she would make plans for him in many ways.
But now, telling him that the other person did indeed want to be with him, but only because of the engagement, not because they liked him, is too hurtful.
Ye Jue remained silent, patting the other person's shoulder. However, the smile on his lips didn't fade.
Out of friendship, Ye Jue genuinely sympathized with him, but from a competitive standpoint, Ye Jue was quite happy.
"Get some rest, you have to get up early to work tomorrow."
