"Is that so?" Feng Chenjiu casually took a sip of tea before slowly replying, "If that's the case, then let's go to the palace."
The guards, seeing that he seemed completely unaware that the emperor had summoned him several times, couldn't help but sigh inwardly, "It really is their prince."
Throughout history, how many princes have dared to do this? Only His Highness is so bold as to directly ignore His Majesty's summons.
…
…
Feng Chenjiu saw Feng Yimu as soon as he entered the palace. He was not yet twenty years old and had not yet undergone the coming-of-age ceremony. He was still living in the palace.
Because he was the crown prince, he had his own residence at a young age, and due to his frequent military campaigns, he stopped living in the palace long ago.
"Greetings, Your Highness the Crown Prince." Feng Yimu bowed respectfully, though his fingertips trembled slightly, as he was still somewhat intimidated by his younger brother.
Feng Chenjiu simply snorted and walked past him.
They soon arrived at the emperor's study and bowed to him.
The emperor quickly put down his pen: "My son has finally returned. Were you injured on the battlefield? Your father is getting old, so you should stay in the capital to assist him. This will also help you understand politics better and take over the throne sooner."
Feng Chenjiu did not respond to his words, but looked at him and said calmly, "I heard that Father has been particularly fond of the Third Prince recently."
The emperor was shocked to hear this and quickly shook his head in denial: "I didn't, I didn't! Don't listen to their nonsense!"
"Yeah?"
The emperor sighed again: "That third son has suffered a lot. I was just trying to save face for him so that he wouldn't be looked down upon when he goes to his fiefdom. I promise that's all!"
“Father is right. After all, he is Father’s son, so it is only natural that Father cares. May I ask what brings Father to see me?” Feng Chenjiu said casually.
Although the emperor hadn't seen him for a long time, he looked remarkably like his mother, and the more he said such things, the more he cared.
Although he was happy that the Crown Prince finally cared about him, he didn't understand why the Crown Prince would suddenly care so much about Feng Yimu.
Did the third brother provoke him? If so, should I send the third brother to his fiefdom sooner rather than later?
"Your father hasn't seen you in a long time, so he wanted to call you over. It's been a long time since you've had a meal with your father."
"Father has plenty of company, why did he need to call me over?"
"That's different! Jiu Jiu, you know, I..."
"Father, I have other things to do. If there's nothing else, I'll take my leave now."
The emperor looked bewildered and asked the crown prince, "What business are you going to attend to?"
The Crown Prince has just returned and hasn't even started handling state affairs yet. What could he possibly be busy with?
"It's a matter of feelings," Feng Chenjiu said calmly.
Upon hearing those four words, the emperor instantly became excited: "Really? Whose daughter is it? Your Majesty is bestowing this marriage upon you?"
"No need." Feng Chenjiu glanced at him; he didn't want him to get involved.
The emperor, unaware of his thoughts, felt a pang of unease upon seeing his refusal: "Could it be that you're not some young lady from a wealthy family? You...you..."
The emperor leaned closer and whispered, "You like men?"
He actually knew a little bit about it. Some people, who are away from women for long periods of time, would... cough cough, if the Crown Prince really liked men, well... okay! It doesn't matter as long as he likes them.
