Chapter 25 The Mother Driven Mad

Yu Ting covered her face and remained silent, having been publicly humiliated by Zhang Yuefang. Her so-called husband, Chi Jie, did not say a word in her defense.

Liu Qian was stunned. Someone was assaulted over something so trivial? She'd heard the victim was a graduate student with a master's degree—how could they tolerate this? What dirt did they have on her?

The room was deathly silent. Just then, Song Xia returned, and everyone looked in the direction of the sound.

Zhang Yuefen immediately looked at her sister, and Zhang Yuefang did not disappoint her. Ignoring her daughter-in-law whom she had beaten, she spoke to Song Xia.

"Oh, the young lady is back. It seems that our poor relatives are not good enough for her. She specially assigned a capable nanny to watch over us and won't even let us see the children."

Song Xia raised an eyebrow: "You are Xie Yuan's aunt, how could Xie Yuan and I dare to neglect you? I will ask Xie Yuan to come back and entertain you right away."

As she was talking, she went to make a phone call, but before the call could be connected, Zhang Yuefang and Zhang Yuefen hung up on her.

"Why bother calling him back? He's busy with work, why disturb him?"

"Mom knows we're busy with work," Song Xia said with a half-smile. "Then why don't you explain it properly to Auntie?"

"He's busy, so what's it to you?" Zhang Yuefang said, displeased. "Is this how you always talk to your mother-in-law? Don't you have any manners?"

“Song’s is my company, how could I have it easier than Xie Yuan? Auntie, you’re joking.”

She then looked puzzled and said, "And what are these rules that Auntie is talking about? Mom, was there anything wrong with what I just said? When Grandma was still alive, you used to yell at her all the time. Didn't you say that we're family and there's no need to be formal? Just say what you want to say. Auntie's words made me feel very wronged."

Zhang Yuefen looked embarrassed, and Zhang Yuefang became even angrier when she saw her sister like this.

"Elders have their reasons for doing things. Just listen to what they're teaching. Who gave you permission to talk back? People without a mother are indeed barbaric."

Not only can't you talk about her, you can't talk about her parents either. What right does Zhang Yuefang have to be so presumptuous in front of her?

"So Mom and Auntie are both barbarians, after all, Grandma Xie Yuan has been gone for a long time." Song Xia's tone was slightly cold. "Auntie, I call you that because of my manners. Now I have the right to tell you to get out of my house. I'm not as weak as Sister Yu Ting, who lets you bully me."

Startled by being called out, Yu Ting pursed her lips, her face darkening.

Zhang Yuefang's eyes widened, seemingly not expecting Song Xia to make such a scene. Wasn't Song Xia supposed to be devoted to her nephew? How dare she offend her? She was Xiao Yuan's own aunt!

"You...you..."

"What? You dare to act so arrogantly in my house? Even if Xie Yuan is here, I still want to ask him where the justice is. Apologize, or get out."

"I'm his aunt! Do you think he'd help you?"

“I am still his wife, and my mother is still his mother-in-law. Which of these relationships isn’t closer than yours? If he doesn’t stand up for me and seek justice, then it proves that he doesn’t care about this marriage. Let’s just get a divorce.”

This was the first time Zhang Yuefen had heard Song Xia mention the word "divorce," and seeing how angry she was and how hard she was breathing, she panicked a little. Now was not the time for a divorce!

"Your aunt was just joking. Mom apologizes to you." It was rare for Zhang Yuefen to bow her head in front of Song Xia; she used to be so domineering.

"Mom, this has nothing to do with you. It's obvious that Auntie is being unreasonable. You treated us kindly, but Auntie is deliberately trying to make things difficult for our family. Her family is a mess, and she wants us to have an uneasy life too! She must apologize to us in person."

Song Xia seized on this point and refused to back down. What did this worthless relative think she could make her suffer?

I tolerated him before because I still had some feelings for Xie Yuan, but why should I now?

So Zhang Yuefen hurriedly gave her younger sister a meaningful look, while Zhang Yuefang was so angry she felt like she was about to vomit blood.

Yu Ting looked excited. Song Xia was amazing; she could actually make her mother-in-law lose face. She wished she could be as capable as Song Xia.

Seeing that Zhang Yuefang was reluctant to speak, Song Xia opened the door and stopped addressing her by name: "Since you have ill intentions, then please leave my house, Miss Zhang Yuefang."

"If Xie Yuan saw you like this, he definitely wouldn't let you off the hook," Zhang Yuefang continued to shout. "He's always been close to me, his aunt, since we were little."

“No matter how close we are, no one is closer than my wife. Unless Xie Yuan doesn’t want this family anymore, he said he would always stand in front of me no matter what happens. Ms. Zhang Yuefang, Xie Yuan and I are family now. If you try to destroy our family, he will be even angrier than I am.”

Anyone can use connections!

Secretly, Xie Yuan treats himself as an outsider and a stepping stone, but does Xie Yuan dare to say it openly now?

"I told you your mouth would get you into trouble sooner or later." Seeing that things were not going well, Zhang Yuefen spoke again, "Xiao Song has always been a sensible person. Just give in and Xiao Song won't hold it against you anymore. He will be as filial to you as Xiao Yuan in the future. After all, when Xiao Yuan was in trouble, it was you, his aunt, who took out money to support his studies."

On one hand, she was trying to persuade her younger sister Zhang Yuefang to stop her seizures, and on the other hand, she was telling Song Xia that without Zhang Yuefang, Xie Yuan wouldn't be where he is today, and that she should be grateful and not make things difficult for Xie Yuan.

Zhang Yuefang remained silent, hoping Song Xia would offer her a way out.

But Song Xia pretended not to understand, and while crying, she called Xie Yuan, choking back tears as she asked him to come back and uphold justice.

With her sister pushing her, Zhang Yuefang finally spoke up: "Xiao Song, it was Auntie who spoke without thinking just now, please don't hold it against Auntie."

Yu Ting was utterly stunned. Her mother-in-law had actually come to this? Her mother-in-law actually apologized?

Her eyes were sparkling when she suddenly realized that her mother-in-law was staring at her. Her heart skipped a beat, and she even hiccuped.

Seeing her like this, Song Xia really didn't know what expression to use to express her feelings at this moment. This level of cowardice was even worse than before.

The Zhang sisters do indeed know how to use psychological manipulation (PUA) and control people. They exploit a person's weaknesses and relentlessly suppress them until they no longer dare to even think of resisting.

If it weren't for the arrival of the Zero System, Song Xia would have been driven mad and stripped of all her family property.

Both she and Yu Ting were highly educated. It's not that they were stupid, but rather that their weaknesses were too obvious and their hearts were too kind, which made them easy targets for exploitation.

After all, they were people who shared the same fate, so Song Xia couldn't possibly stand by and watch Yu Ting die.

"Mom, I'm in a bad mood right now. Why don't you take Auntie to your place?" Song Xia pretended to be hurt and looked tired.

"We're worried about you being like this! At least let one of us stay and take care of you."

"Then let Yu Ting stay. Mom, you've always praised Yu Ting for being virtuous, so she'll definitely take good care of me. That's settled then. I don't want to say anything more. You can communicate with Xie Yuan about anything else."

After she finished speaking, she went back to her room. Zhang Yuefang could only glare at Yu Ting with a warning look, telling her not to cause any trouble.
