Chapter 169: Dead Trees Seek Spring (1 / 2)

(Not for reference)

February 15, 1922, Qingjiang Ferry.

The long river is desolate, the towers are obscured by fog, the moon obscures the ferry, and the withered branches on the shore are covered with frost and weeping with dew.

At the end of winter and the beginning of spring, the river water was steaming and the cold air penetrated into the skin, making people shiver.

"Hurry up! The ship is about to leave!"

The dock was very crowded. When people heard the boat was about to depart, they moved faster.

"Everyone, don't move! No boating allowed!" A loud male voice sounded.

"Stop and get checked!"

After a burst of hurried and orderly footsteps, rows of soldiers holding rifles lined up neatly at the ferry. The light of the searchlight pierced through the clouds and fog, and when it swept across the soldiers' faces, serious expressions could be seen.

The passengers who wanted to enter or exit the ferry looked panicked and looked around in panic.

A tall man dressed as an aide-de-camp adjusted his military cap and shouted, "Line up! Five rows! The Yue Marshal's Office is arresting spies! Everyone cooperate with the inspection! Anyone who resists the inspection will be regarded as a spy and arrested!"

"Now, everyone on the boat, get down and line up!"

As the adjutant finished speaking, the soldiers led the crowd into line in an orderly manner and checked them one by one.

Soon, teams of soldiers holding torches arrived, the light of the flames reflected on the faces of the people present, and one team boarded the ship to search.

People held their luggage tightly and accepted the inspection nervously. The inspection line moved quickly and orderly.

There are two ships docked at the pier, one of which has just arrived and the other is about to depart. Now all passengers on both ships, whether they are getting on or off, have to come down for inspection.

A tall man in a neat military uniform and a cloak walked out of the darkness. The sound of his boots stepping on the deck was very rhythmic, but it made people feel cold and oppressive for no reason.

The light of the torch illuminated his cold and tough face. His brows were indifferent and his eyes were compelling. Under the moonlight, he seemed to be carrying a murderous aura.

Yue Xiangli glanced at the crowd indifferently, lowered his head slightly, and quickly fiddled with the black thing in his hand with a slightly hot barrel, pulled open the magazine and put the bullet in.

Behind him, a man who looked like an officer ran behind Yue Xiangli with a dozen people.

Lin Pingyi saluted him and said, "Report to the commander-in-chief, all the enemies in the city have been eliminated!"

Yue Xiangli's deep voice was cold, "Go check, speed up, don't delay too long."

This game of catching turtles in a jar should end tonight.

"Yes!" Lin Pingyi and his men joined the inspection team.

As time passed, two people in the crowd were detained one after another, causing panic.

At the end of the line, a man wearing a wide-brimmed hat was holding a brown safe in his hand and backing away step by step.

Yue glanced at Li Yuguang, raised the gun in his hand, pressed his finger on the trigger, and a gunshot rang out. The man who was retreating was hit in the knee. He screamed in pain and knelt on one knee.

The nearby soldiers twisted his arm and dragged him down.

After the gunshots, the crowd rioted, screaming one after another, and the soldiers controlled the situation.

The person closest to him was a girl wearing a light green modified wide-sleeved, wide-waisted skirt. A drop of blood splattered on the wooden board in front of her. She took a step back with her body stiff, glanced at the detained person, and then looked towards Yue Xiangli in the direction of the voice. Her fingers holding the suitcase tightened, and her finger bones turned slightly white.

Her eyes were clear and her long eyelashes were trembling slightly. The clear river behind her reflected the morning light. She was wearing old clothes and seemed to have walked out of the misty rain in the south of the Yangtze River.

It's dawn.

Their eyes met. Yue glanced at Li Weiwei, who was pretending to be calm, and then looked away.

The Pearl of All Worlds floated beside him, glanced at him, and said nothing.

Duan Huxia shouted in a gruff voice from the front: "Hurry up, those behind!"

The girl took a deep breath, walked forward with the box, and placed it in front of the soldier.

The soldier opened it and flipped through it. "What are you doing in Zhencheng?"
