Yan Tinglan's mouth corners slightly raised.
Yan Chengfeng stared at Yan Tinglan, the more he looked, the more he felt that he was different from the person he remembered.
"Father, can I go to the academy for classes?"
"If you want to go, go ahead. I won't stop you." Yan Tinglan said calmly.
"But when I asked you some time ago, you said I was too young and should wait until I was five years old before going."
Yan Tinglan glanced at him leisurely, "Isn't this what you asked for? Why are you using my previous words to refute me?"
"Father, the pony you carved for me before is gone. Can you carve another one for me?"
"Can't."
Yan Chengfeng pursed his lips, a huge wave of emotions rising in his heart, "Father, Madam Royal Concubine, I remember that I have something else to do in Chaoyang Palace, so I will not have dinner here."
"Um."
After getting the response, Yan Chengfeng stumbled out.
Yan Tinglan hugged the person next to him and said, "Ali, he is testing me."
"In the daily records, Yan Tingyuan said that he would find a teacher to teach Yan Chengfeng when he was six years old, but he did not mean to send him to the academy."
"Yan Tingyuan didn't carve any pony for Yan Chengfeng."
Zhu Fuli tugged at his sleeve, "You know, why do you still give the wrong answer?"
"If he wants to know, let him know. I'm not afraid of him knowing. I just want him to know that I'm not his father. I can't give him the fatherly love he wants."
"Isn't this a bit cruel for a four-year-old?"
"He is the most special among the princes and princesses. He can accept it." He held her hand. "Does Ali like him? You saved him before."
"It's okay, he is quite polite." On the day of entering the palace, Yan Chengfeng, although the eldest son of the emperor, gave her a great gift.
She asked him why, and the little guy looked up and said in a childish voice: "The Zhu family sacrificed their lives for the country, which is worthy of Chengfeng's great gift. Chengfeng is not paying homage to the queen's position, but to the glory and sacrifice behind you."
"Since Cheng Feng knew about the Zhu family, he has always wanted to leave the palace to see you, but his father would not allow it."
This might be the reason why she was willing to save him that day.
He hugged her, his eyes fixed on the two peach trees outside the window, "Ali, do you want to sit on a swing? How about installing a swing in the yard?"
"Um."
"Have someone install it tomorrow." He tilted his head and kissed the corner of her lips.
…
Lin Hu had the finished portraits sent to the palace and bound into a book.
Yan Tinglan walked into Fengyi Palace with a book in his hand. Zhu Fuli was drawing something with his head down.
He walked up behind her and put his hand on her shoulder, "What are you drawing?"
"The layout of the school." She replied without even looking up.
"Ali has a wide range of interests."
She didn't respond, concentrating on the task at hand.
When she finished drawing and put down her pen, Yan Tinglan held her in his arms, sat on the chair, and put the book in his hand into hers, "Give this book to Ali, see if you like it."
Upon hearing this, Zhu Fuli lowered his head and opened the book. On the first page, there was a single word “Zhu” that took up almost the entire page. The writing was vigorous and powerful, with a steady and majestic tone.
The second page is the family history and military exploits of the Zhu family, a family of military generals.
"Did you write this?" She looked up.
"The words are imitations of your grandfather's handwriting that I found. There are also pictures at the back, which were drawn by the Duke of the Protectorate and his wife." He held her hand and turned to the next page.
The first page was a portrait of her grandfather Zhu Pingjiang, with his birth and death years written next to it, and his life stories listed.
On the next page is her grandmother Luo Wanqiu, who is also introduced in small print.
Zhu Fuli finished reading the book in silence, his heart was restless for a long time, and tears flashed in his eyes.
