She wouldn't let them take the person away.
Xu Keke stood up, pretending to talk to Tang Wan to buy time, shifting her body to one side. She found the right angle, preparing to strike decisively.
"I didn't expect that Miss Tang was planning to make a one-off deal in Shanghai. If you take her away today, haven't you thought about the future? Our Zhou family has nothing for you to fear, but don't forget, I'm engaged to Minister Feng's son."
"We had no other choice. We've tried to invite Mr. Wei several times, but our staff couldn't get him to come. Mr. Lin was worried for me, which is why he resorted to this tactic. Miss Zhou, rest assured, we won't do anything to Mr. Wei, and we certainly won't..."
"Why waste words with her? You guys talked to me for ages the other day, but I still didn't understand. What use is this guy surnamed Feng? He has no real power, no soldiers, and no guns. Why should we be afraid of him? Besides, he's not the highest-ranking official in Shanghai. What can he do to us? If he pushes us too far, my gun isn't just for show."
“I’ll tell you why you’re afraid of him.”
At the sound, the two guests still seated at the table behind Young Master Lin stood up. The younger one turned around, raised his hand, and with clean, swift movements, snatched the gun from Young Master Lin's hand. He then slammed Lin's hand onto the table. Clatter! Coffee cups and saucers fell to the floor.
"Tell them to call the police station," the man ordered the older man. Judging from his tone, the two seemed to be in a master-servant relationship.
"You son of a bitch, mind your own business and let me go. Do you know who I am?..."
Young Master Lin was still struggling. The man had been pressing his body against the table, but when he heard Lin start cursing and swearing, he didn't hold back anymore. He handed the gun to his other hand, grabbed Young Master Lin's hair, pulled his head up, and slammed it hard onto the table.
With a loud bang, even Xu Keke was startled. She knew from the sound that this was serious. This person hadn't shown any mercy.
Everyone knows Young Master Lin is a scoundrel, but this guy is even more arrogant than him. Judging from this person's words, he just thinks Young Master Lin is too arrogant; he's already taken advantage of him, so he should let it go, right? Tang Wan smiled faintly, feigning composure.
"Sir, you've misunderstood. Young Master Lin had no intention of harming anyone. He was just joking with the gun. We all know each other; you can ask this young lady if you don't believe me."
Seeing Tang Wan's outstretched hand, Xu Keke smiled. What a clever move to shift the blame! Tang Wan is truly cunning. If she directly stated that she had a bad relationship with them, and the young master Lin suffered a loss, it would be her problem. The Lin family bullies the weak and fears the strong, and might even seek revenge through her. And Tang Wan, in turn, might even gain a reputation for standing up for someone in a crisis.
The young man didn't even lift an eyelid, ignoring Tang Wan. He pointed his gun at Lin Qinghai's face and said, "If you want to be arrogant, you need to have the resources. Feng Shaozhe has no soldiers or guns, but Lin Qinghai is just He Qingfeng's dog. You're dreaming if you think you can act tough in Shanghai."
You say Lin Qinghai lives a comfortable life with his tail between his legs, but he doesn't teach you how to behave, letting you run around like a stray dog. He treats you so badly, he probably thinks you're too old for him.
Having just experienced that attack, Young Master Lin knew this man wouldn't go easy on him, and he was too frightened to say another word. He simply closed his eyes and listened to the man's lecture.
Not long after, a foreigner in uniform arrived with several Indians.
"Lu Xiansen!"
The foreigner looked at the man with some excitement, as if he had met an old friend in a foreign land. After greeting the man in broken Chinese, the two began to communicate in English.
Seeing how protective this person was of Feng Shaozhe, Xu Keke thought his surname was Feng.
Mr. Lu didn't say much else, only that Young Master Lin had committed a shooting in the coffee shop. Tang Wan wanted to step forward and explain Young Master Lin's identity, but before she could speak, Mr. Lu spoke to the foreigner.
“He is Lin Qinghai’s son. Tell your superior not to release him without Feng Shaozhe’s consent.”
Judging from the foreigner's shrug and pursed lips, he was clearly not interested in the name Lin Qinghai, but when he heard Feng Shaozhe, he nodded in agreement.
Seeing that the person had been taken away, Tang Wan hurriedly walked out, wanting to go back and report the news. But Mr. Lu stopped her. Mr. Lu called over the waiter behind the bar, pointed at Tang Wan, and said, "Calculate the losses here, the broken things, and the bills of the customers who left without paying. Settle it all down and have her pay."
Tang Wan was furious, but dared not retort. The elegance and composure she had tried so hard to maintain vanished in that instant. She could no longer laugh, yet she still tried to control her tone of voice.
"I don't know your surname, sir. I'll go back and tell Mr. Lin so he can come to your door to apologize."
The young man glanced at Xu Keke out of the corner of his eye, seemingly casually, and saw her also looking up, waiting curiously. He parted his lips slightly and uttered two words.
"Lu Tao!"
Judging from the state of the police station, this man must be someone of some renown in Shanghai. But Tang Wan had never heard of him before. She glanced at Ji Mingkai beside her and saw he also looked bewildered. She knew he didn't recognize him either.
"We don't know where Mr. Lu's residence is located, so we can go and apologize in person."
“Go back and tell Lin Qinghai, and he'll know. They've settled the bill; go and pay it.”
Tang Wan gritted her teeth, went to the bar, paid the money, and hurriedly left with Ji Mingkai.
After they left, Lu Tao nodded to Xu Keke and the others, and then led the older man out as well.
"That scared me to death!" After everyone left, Wei Wei plopped down in a chair.
"You're lucky, kid. I thought you'd be taken away by someone else," Pete teased.
Li Yu, who had been silent until now, also breathed a sigh of relief. "Shaoqiu, you've become too bold. No wonder your aunt trusts you so much and gave you money to make movies. My legs were weak just now."
“I was scared too. I was afraid that young Master Lin might lose his grip and fire the gun again.”
Hearing Xu Keke's words, Wei Wei hurriedly waved his hand, "Don't say anymore, I don't want to recall it. By the way, who is this Lu Tao? Have you heard of him?"
When asked, Pete shook his head. "I've only been back in the country for a short time. You don't even know. How would I know?"
As they were talking, several waiters came over to tidy up, and Pete asked them, "Is that Mr. Lu a regular customer here?"
The young man who had been doing the accounting said to them, "Mr. Lu, this is our boss."
"What!" All four of them stared at him in surprise. Then they laughed in unison. They had all thought that Mr. Lu was acting out of a sense of justice, but they never expected that he was actually asking for compensation for his coffee shop.
No wonder he was so familiar with the people in the foreign concession police station.
