Xu Keke truly rose to fame overnight. The identity of her opponent was crucial; even Gao Lan hadn't told her, and Xu Keke had no idea that Luo Xi was a goddess-like figure at school. Not only were the boys adoring her, but her prestige among the girls was also exceptionally high.
She comes from a well-off family and is quite good-looking. What's most impressive is that, because of her height, she reportedly started playing volleyball in junior high school. She was recruited by Nanfeng Middle School from another school. Once she arrived, she became the captain of the Nanfeng High School volleyball team.
Most of the students in Nanfeng High School Volleyball Division participated in the sport during their junior high school years. She's an outsider, only a freshman in high school, with seniors in their sophomores and graduating classes above her. By seniority, she shouldn't be the captain.
However, the school made her the team leader on her very first day of school without hesitation. So after taking office, she had to fight her way up and rely on her own abilities to gain a foothold.
Xu Keke lost to her, and it happened on the volleyball court. On her way home from school, Xu Keke received countless reactions: curiosity, surprise, admiration, and incredulous looks.
"Since she became the captain of the volleyball team, our school has never lost a volleyball competition." As a member of Nanfeng, Gao Lan is still very proud when she talks about this.
After listening to Gao Lan talk all the way, Xu Keke became a little proud. She couldn't stand Gao Lan's self-satisfied and proud attitude.
Mimicking Jiaqing's usual banter, he scoffed, "Tch, I've never heard of her losing in our school before. She's only been here for a year, and she's only played two games in total, spring and autumn. What's there to brag about?"
"Oh, right!" Gao Lan blinked her big eyes at Xu Keke, stunned. She realized that what Xu Keke said actually made sense. Just two games, they might win if they got lucky.
Gao Jiale, unable to bear it any longer, retorted, "What nonsense! That's a season of competition, not just one game. Compared to several schools, a season of games involves at least ten matches. They haven't lost a single one. Aren't they amazing?"
Gao Lan was the first to object. "Brother, why are you taking someone else's side? Whose side are you really on? You can't side with her just because she's from your class. From now on, we need to draw a clear line. We won't associate with anyone from Class 1 or 2 anymore."
Gao Lan linked arms with Xu Keke, preparing to move away from Gao Jiale. Xu Keke had only been joking, and quickly pulled her back, "Alright, just kidding. It's good that she's good. If we beat her, and someone says she's good, the subtext is that our team is very skilled."
Gao Lan was delighted again, "That's right, our teamwork today was really..."
"Don't be too happy yet, her dad is no ordinary person. Didn't you see the PE teacher constantly coaxing her?" Gao Jiale added, pouring cold water on the situation.
This was the second time Xu Keke had heard about how amazing other people's fathers were since she came into this world. These two people happened to both have the surname Luo.
"Could her dad be the deputy director of the Second Light Industry Bureau?" Xu Keke wasn't just asking a question. She was practically certain. Otherwise, she couldn't imagine why Luo Xi would target someone as insignificant as herself.
"How did you know?" Gao Jiaqing was somewhat surprised. He learned about it by chance from their class's sports committee member. Once, the sports committee member went to the PE teacher's office to get something. As he was about to enter, he overheard two PE teachers chatting inside, saying that Luo Xi was able to become the captain of the high school volleyball team not only because she had some talent, but also because she had a good father.
Xu Keke made no attempt to hide anything and readily recounted her encounter with Meng Zikang while buying coal that day. She didn't even ask them to keep it a secret. She wanted them to spread the word. Only when everyone knew why Meng Qian had attacked her would she suffer less in silence.
However, as it turns out, Xu Keke had overestimated these people.
She assumed it was just a minor conflict between two students at school, and at worst, Rosie would gather a group of people to cause her trouble. Worse still, she thought they might secretly put a sack over her head or something—a small act of sabotage.
She never expected that Rosie's parents would come to the school.
In this day and age, few adults intervene in conflicts between children. They see it as normal for kids to fight, especially since adults are busy making a living and have many children—how can they possibly manage? Like last time Xiao Jiaqing was beaten, at most his sister stepped in to intimidate him. Afterwards, Aunt Gao only casually asked why, and then ignored it.
When Xu Keke entered the principal's office, she saw Luo Wei sitting in the chair in front of the desk.
What made Xu Keke feel fortunate was that their principal, a woman in her fifties who was illiterate and a veteran of the Eighth Route Army, did not show any obsequiousness when facing Luo Wei.
She looked at them, the students, with the same serious expression she always had, her eyes scrutinizing and appraising them. This expression made one think she was skeptical and distrustful of everything. Seeing it, one felt an urge to prove to her that what they said was true and correct.
Xu Keke walked into the room. The female principal didn't speak. It was Ms. Liu, the young female homeroom teacher of Class 1-2 in the room, who spoke first, "Meng Dong, right? Tell me, why did you hit Rosie with the ball that day?"
Upon hearing this, the female principal frowned first, giving Teacher Liu a disapproving look.
These words were like a knife to the heart. Xu Keke ignored her and looked at Luo Wei, "What, did they contact my dad, and he didn't have time, so he sent you?"
Xu Keke pointed at Luo Wei, her finger about to touch her face, "Let me tell you, my mother was driven to hang herself by you and my father. Only a slut like you would want that shameless man, Meng Zikang. You two, go back to your nest and disgust people, stop embarrassing yourselves. You may be shameless, but I am. You're pretending to be good people now. Let me tell you, I'm not buying it. I'll handle my own affairs, it's none of your business."
