Regarding Meng Zikang's question, Xu Keke felt like she had shot herself in the foot. She was called to the principal's office when school reopened.
Dou Yi stared at her for a long time before finally saying, "It was you who reported Rosie's father."
This principal is way too straightforward. Xu Keke admits she can't compare to her.
"Anyone who reads your letter of accusation can guess that it was written by you."
Xu Keke didn't believe a word of this. Anyone could see that no one had bothered to find out what was going on, nor had anyone retaliated against her. For example, the Luo sisters. But Xu Keke listened obediently, because the female principal's intimidating presence made her afraid to contradict her.
“Outsiders who want to expose him won’t start with his son-in-law. Unless that person actually has a grudge against his son-in-law. And these grudges aren’t work-related, they’re all personal.”
Xu Keke guessed that Dou Yi definitely didn't call her here to explain the loopholes in the whistleblower letter.
Sure enough, Dou Yi sighed at her, looking at her with some disdain, "You're in too much of a rush. Why didn't you delay? Your file is already marked in red. Your biological father has a problem, so you can't take the university entrance exam. Even if you did, you wouldn't be admitted."
Xu Keke was dumbfounded. She hadn't taken the college entrance exam in her previous lives, and in her memory, background checks should have started a year later. Could it be that, in reality, things were already this strict at this point?
Dou Yi saw Xu Keke's contemplation as composure. This pleased her; she disliked seeing women panic over trivial matters. These women always started by shouting before they could even consider the issue. It was nothing more than a waste of time.
“I’ll try to figure something out for you, but you need to be prepared. Don’t do anything inappropriate because of this, and don’t let it affect yourself or the people around you. I know you have a younger sister, so you need to think carefully about what will happen to her if something happens to you.”
Dou Yi paused for a moment, looking at her. “Life is full of twists and turns. You don’t necessarily have to follow one path. You may think this path is difficult, but if you just keep going boldly, after a while, you’ll find an easy road ahead. This period of time may be a little long or a little short. It doesn’t matter, as long as you become better and better.”
So whether you're cultured or not isn't really that important. What matters is your heart. Xu Keke understood Dou Yi's meaning; she was afraid she might do something foolish. She had been too fixated on taking the college entrance exam, which had given others the wrong impression.
"Can the school keep this a secret? I don't want anyone else to know about this."
Dou Yi was stunned. This was something she shouldn't have told her student in the first place; she was only worried that if the child found out through other channels, something might go wrong. This child was simply too unusual. Her speech and mannerisms were unlike anything a child her age should have. Therefore, Dou Yi suspected that this child was not only more intellectually gifted than other children, but also perhaps had a unique personality.
Xu Keke never expected that Dou Yi had already categorized her as a member of a special group.
Since she and Qi Chang confessed their feelings for each other, she wasn't as obsessed with taking the college entrance exam as outsiders thought. That's why she remained calm even after hearing the news.
Of course, she didn't regret writing that anonymous letter. She still wanted to see Meng Zikang suffer. If he was alright after she left, she would regret it.
Meng Zikang overheard someone saying something and went to the factory to find Qi Chang. When Qi Chang came back that evening and told her about it, Xu Keke was shocked.
"He asked you for money," Xu Keke chuckled. "Did you ask him why?"
“He said that we are together in an ambiguous relationship. He can overlook it, but I have to marry you and give him the money to marry you. He also said that my brother-in-law needs money, and he is the only male in your family.”
"Brother-in-law? Luo Wei went into premature labor? Aunt Gao was calculating the other day, saying it would be at least August."
Qi Chang said, "No, at first I also thought she had given birth, but then I understood that he meant that other people had seen that Luo Wei's baby was definitely a boy."
This oddball left Xu Keke speechless. Although she knew Qi Chang wouldn't give him the money, Xu Keke still pressed him for an answer, "What did you say to him?"
“I didn’t ask you what you thought, so I told him I needed to think about it and asked him to come to the factory to see me in three days.”
Xu Keke nodded. If they met Meng Zikang elsewhere, Meng Zikang would definitely think he had Qi Chang under his control. That would only cause more trouble. By saying this, Qi Chang was indirectly telling Meng Zikang that he wasn't afraid of him causing trouble at the factory.
"I found out three days later."
Qi Chang didn't ask her what she planned to do. He knew her style too well. If she needed his help, Xu Keke would tell him on her own.
Three days later, Meng Zikang indeed went to the factory to find Qi Chang again.
Qi Chang still talked to him at the factory gate. Actually, it wasn't really a talk; it was just a unilateral notification that he wouldn't give him a single penny, and that he could sue him or make a scene wherever he wanted.
Meng Zikang, who had expected to receive the money, cursed for a long time at the factory gate. But no one came out to stop him. Only passersby gathered around, watching him like he was a monkey show.
Enraged, Meng Zikang could only push everyone aside and leave first.
He was so angry that he stumbled and fell after only a few steps. He fell in the wrong place; there was a sharp rock in front of him, which struck his genitals.
Meng Zikang was impotent; he was a man who couldn't perform. He didn't even have a chance to hide it, because when he fell, Wei Jie and several coworkers happened to be coming out of the factory, and they rushed him to the hospital. The news spread like wildfire, becoming the talk of the town. It further proved the saying that people shouldn't do bad things, or they would face retribution.
