When the original owner got married, Du Jue and Fu Kai went to military academy. She had heard of Fu Kai's name, but had never met him in person. She didn't expect him to be such a refined and gentle young man, who looked more like the son of the deputy director of the Education Bureau than the somewhat rugged Du Jue.
A man and a woman followed behind him. Xu Keke froze when she saw the man. He was the original owner's husband from her previous life. The man who died less than two years after their marriage.
Judging from Xu Keke's observation, this person, even without being physically strong, just looking at his skin color and demeanor, could conservatively live to be fifty or sixty years old without any problems, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
Xu Keke couldn't understand it. When the original owner married him, Du Bingtian had told her that if this man hadn't been so sickly, someone like her, with her family background and having been imprisoned in the army, would never have been able to marry into that kind of family.
On his wedding day, the man's face was deathly pale, as white as a sheet, devoid of any color. After the ceremony, he was taken to the hospital.
Although her in-laws didn't treat her exceptionally well, they were all very considerate. They never demanded that she go to the hospital to take care of her. She would only visit them in the hospital every few days, which she considered her duty as a wife.
Two years passed, and the man succumbed to his illness. The original owner of this body witnessed his body being placed in a coffin and laid to rest.
Xu Keke's gaze was too obvious, and the man smiled and walked over, teasing her.
"My name is Li Dakang, and I am Fukai's cousin. I work in Nanjing. I noticed that you've been staring at me. I suppose you're not captivated by my appearance, but rather by my common face, and you think I resemble someone else?"
Same appearance, same name, but completely different manner of speaking.
Xu Keke smiled at him gracefully, "You're too modest. Although I just came from the countryside, I bet with your looks and demeanor, you must attract a lot of girls. I don't believe you don't notice. I just don't know if you have any other brothers or sisters? If you have sisters, I imagine they must be very beautiful, so much so that people can't take their eyes off them."
Seeing Xu Keke dressed conservatively, it was unexpected that she was even more outspoken than those female students these days. She actually admitted directly that she was attracted to him because he was handsome. The man could tell he found her amusing; he raised an eyebrow and smiled even more broadly.
"I'm not sure if I'd seem a bit too shameless to thank you directly for your kind words. But unfortunately, I don't have any other brothers or sisters."
The man stepped aside to make way for the girl behind him. "But today I brought my little cousin, Su Wan."
With her short haircut, she was clearly a very trendy girl. Li Dakang obviously had no intention of introducing his little cousin's background.
In the original owner's memories, she had never seen this girl named Su Wan at the Li family home. Although she didn't know what the relationship between the two was, as far as she knew, Li Dakang's mother's surname was not Su, so even if she was a cousin, she should be a distant relative.
Xu Keke's intuition told her that Su Wan didn't like her. The way Su Wan looked at Xu Keke was cold and tinged with disgust. Although Li Dakang had introduced her to everyone, Su Wan showed no intention of approaching her to chat.
Xu Keke secretly guessed that it might be because she had paid too much attention to Li Dakang as soon as they met, which displeased her distant cousin.
Du Jue sensed the awkward atmosphere and stepped in front of Xu Keke, shielding her behind him. He then chatted with Li Dakang and Fu Kaiwen with a smile, which somewhat eased the tension.
As they walked inside, Xu Keke noticed out of the corner of her eye that behind them, Li Dakang had his head down, and Su Wan was whispering something in his ear. Su Wan unconsciously glanced at her. Li Dakang, however, kept a smile on his face, looking at the path beneath his feet. His eyes didn't even sweep over her.
Li Dakang's avoidance seemed somewhat deliberate, and coupled with the fact that Su Wan gave Xu Keke a sense of déjà vu, Xu Keke was basically certain that something was amiss between the two.
As they entered the innermost area, no one noticed the hesitation of the guards at the entrance. The group simply followed Fu Kai inside.
There was someone inside the area. The man was tall and muscular, wearing a baseball cap and high military boots. Upon seeing him, Fu Kai paused for a moment, then nodded respectfully.
The man was likely an active-duty military officer, but his civilian clothes obscured his rank. Although Fukai's father held a high-ranking position in the military, he was too young, so his politeness was perfectly normal. Since no one had specifically introduced him, no one paid much attention.
When the man saw them arrive, he didn't leave immediately. He emptied his gun and went to sit in the rest area.
This shooting range is semi-open-air. The shooting area is indoors, while the targets are exposed outdoors. This type of training range is better than a purely indoor shooting range, as the lighting matches natural light, which is helpful for daily combat training. Because no one can guarantee that they will always encounter well-lit conditions during combat.
Xu Keke's attire today was completely different from Su Wan's. Xu Keke seemed to be just there to join in the fun. Su Wan, on the other hand, looked exceptionally capable in her riding outfit.
Especially the moment she picked up the gun, her heroic and spirited demeanor, showing that women are not inferior to men, made everyone present take notice.
Xu Keke told Du Jue not to worry about her and wandered off to the back rest area. She smiled politely at the man already sitting there. He remained expressionless and arrogantly looked away.
Xu Keke tactfully chose a spot a little further away to sit. The chair was a comfortable single sofa, and there was tea on the table next to her. Xu Keke went over and poured herself a cup; the taste alone made her exclaim in amazement—it was excellent tea!
She took another sip; the taste was mellow and the tea aroma was rich—the aftertaste was simply divine. Xu Keke didn't stand on ceremony and took the tea and bowl away together.
