Xu Keke sized up Li Wan. She didn't trust herself, yet she couldn't find anyone to help her.
Li Wan was unfamiliar with this daughter before, and now she was somewhat afraid of her. She guiltily looked away.
Grandma Li and Li Mao were clearly unaware of Xu Keke's situation.
Li Mao looked at the two men in confusion. "What Master Zhang? Who should the child ask?"
“Don’t listen to your mother,” Grandma Li chimed in. “I’m not afraid you’ll look down on us. Even if the doctor were here, we still wouldn’t be able to afford the surgery.”
"Sister-in-law!" Li Wan called out urgently.
"Alright, we know you can't come up with it. We don't understand, but what's wrong with just asking the Chen family? Even our Li family can't borrow from them. That's clearly your dowry money."
When we got engaged, your father-in-law promised that your dowry could go to the Chen family. But we can't just get a small share, can we? These past few years, business has been bad, and we haven't even gotten a share. That's bad enough, but your brother is sick, and we can't even borrow money from him.”
Li Wan looked at the three people in the room with a troubled expression, unsure of what to say. This woman in her thirties was acting like a child, filled with fear and helplessness.
"Xiufen," Li Mao called out to Grandma Li's name, "Never mind, don't make things difficult for your little sister."
His words were so sincere that Li Wan's eyes immediately welled up with tears. She covered her eyes with a handkerchief and cried, feeling wronged and heartbroken.
"Take care of the illness first, we can talk about other things later."
Upon hearing Xu Keke's words, Li Wan paused in her sobbing.
