Chapter 259 Female Shoe Factory Workers in the 1970s 03

After finishing the fragrant chicken noodle soup, Xu Keke finally recovered completely. The discomfort she felt from this body finally disappeared.

"Sister-in-law, you've gone too far. That was a patient's meal that Meijia brought to Brother Song on an empty stomach. You weren't injured. How could you eat it all?"

After hearing Du Yi's words, Xu Keke looked at them.

Lin Meijia was sitting on a stool between two hospital beds, looking rather aggrieved.

Her bright red lips were pouting, and her large eyes were shimmering and sparkling. She looked like she was about to cry.

Her sycophant, Du Yizheng, glared at her with indignation.

"Du Yi, forget it, it's the same no matter who eats it." Lin Meijia stretched out two fingers and tugged at Du Yi's sleeve. Even though she felt uncomfortable, she still forced a smile.

The way he looked at me, feeling wronged but not saying anything, made people feel even more sorry for him, and there was a hint of reluctance in the eyes of both men.

Song Lin raised his hand and, as if acting as an elder, patted her head reassuringly.

Lin Meijia smiled at him with strength and courage, leaned closer to him, and looked at him with eyes full of dependence.

Du Yi, on the other side, stared blankly at Lin Meijia, having long forgotten his questioning of Xu Keke.

But he forgot, while Xu Keke hadn't, "Du Yi, why was Song Lin injured? Who caused this?"

Xu Keke was annoyed by Du Yi's attitude as soon as he entered the house, and now he's taking the initiative to meddle in other people's business.

Xu Keke had just finished eating and was in a good mood. She didn't mind giving him a lecture.

Seeing that all three people were looking at her, Xu Keke finally spoke again.

"Song Lin was injured. These past few days, I've been rushing home from the factory every noon and then rushing to the hospital to deliver meals to him."

I was so exhausted I almost fainted downstairs. Why am I so tired? Why did he get injured? Is it all because you weren't driving safely?

Something happened at the factory today, so I'm late. How could you, the one who caused this, be so shameless as to eat and drink on the sidelines while Song Lin just watched?

Why don't you consider that he was injured because of you, and that you should take on the responsibility of caring for him?

"A perfectly healthy person got injured and is now lying here. We haven't even asked you for compensation; you should be grateful. And you're here criticizing me."

This person used to be quiet and reserved, but his sudden assertive attitude surprised all three people in the room.

Lin Meijia was the first to react, saying, "Master Zeng, you're working so hard running back and forth every day. My master is sick, and I have nothing to do at the factory. I'll bring meals to my master from now on."

"You're quite good at finding loopholes," Xu Keke chuckled. "No need. Your master was injured, it wasn't your fault. You shouldn't be the one to deliver it."

Xu Keke said this while deliberately staring at Du Yi. Du Yi knew exactly what she meant.

She angrily looked away, snorted coldly, and said defiantly, "I'll deliver it then!"

"Alright!" Song Lin called out to Xu Keke.

Song Lin appeared serious, but inwardly he felt Xu Keke was right. However, he couldn't say it out loud due to considerations of their relationship. He gave Xu Keke a look, signaling her to stop while she was ahead.

Lin Meijia shyly brought up the matter again, offering to deliver food to Song Lin on Du Yi's behalf.

This energized Du Yi. He assumed Lin Meijia had taken on the job to help him out of a difficult situation. He grinned broadly, staring at Lin Meijia with a silly grin.

Lin Meijia then said shyly to Song Lin, "Master, starting tonight, I'll cook for you and bring it over. Is there anything you'd like to eat?"

Xu Keke walked to the bedside and threw the lunchbox into Lin Meijia's arms.

He deliberately said, "Meijia, you don't need to bring your master dinner tonight. The food is already prepared at home, I can take care of it."

Xu Keke's words dimmed Lin Meijia's eyes, who was excitedly talking about what she was going to do that night.

Although Du Yi couldn't bear to see Lin Meijia suffer, he didn't want to pay any attention to Xu Keke right now. He just glared at her with unfriendly eyes but didn't say anything more.

Song Lin looked at Lin Meijia with doting eyes. His apprentice was good in every way, except that she was too naive and wore her heart on her sleeve.

He looked away, the gentle smile still lingering on his face. He gazed tenderly at Xu Keke.

“You’ve had a long day, so don’t come over tonight. Meijia is young, let her bring the food instead of you running back and forth.”

Seeing Lin Meijia's resentful little eyes, Xu Keke smiled even more happily.

The man in front of me had thick eyebrows and big eyes; he was indeed quite handsome. Having received some education, he possessed a scholarly air and appeared refined and cultured.

He's just over thirty, in his prime, and looks mature and steady. He's much more attractive to young girls than a greenhorn like Du Yi, who's still a bit naive and inexperienced.

Xu Keke smiled but didn't respond to his words. She took the lunchbox she had brought from the table. She had only touched the rice twice; it was what he had eaten before Lin Meijia arrived.

I don't want to eat, so I'll just have to go hungry. There's no takeout these days, and no snacks in the house. I'll have to wait until tonight to eat again.

People say that love makes even water taste sweet. Xu Keke glanced at Lin Meijia, whose face was slightly raised and whose lips were tightly pursed, making her a little nervous under Xu Keke's gaze.

With pretty young girls around, she figured Song Lin, who had only eaten two bites of food since morning, shouldn't be hungry.

Xu Keke closed the lunchbox and prepared to take it away.

Lin Meijia suddenly stood up and stopped her, "By the way, Master Zeng, where are you going later?"

"Back to the factory." Xu Keke didn't waste any more words with her.

"Master Zeng, before you go back to the factory, could you please take the keys to my mom for me?"

Xu Keke was speechless. The original owner of this body looked just like a steamed bun.
