Chapter 265 Female Shoe Factory Workers in the 1970s 09

Xu Keke didn't stay in the workshop for long. After saying goodbye to her coworkers, she went straight to the office to find the workshop director, Liu Mei.

Xu Keke told me that she wasn't going to study in Beijing. Liu Mei seemed to have known this outcome all along, but she was still unwilling to accept it.

"There are still two days left, wait a little longer, in case things change. Technician Song really doesn't agree. No, I'm going to the hospital to talk to him today."

After hearing Xu Keke say it was her own idea, Liu Mei looked at her with confusion, "Do you have some concerns?"

Xu Keke shook her head. "No, it's my own idea. I don't have any talent for drawing or design. I think if it's a design course, it should be for people who have an interest in art. As for management courses, well... I think the actual situation of each factory is different, so there's no way to apply the same approach."

Actually, Xu Keke felt that the current management model was useless even if she learned it. It was simply too outdated.

"As for shoemaking skills, if I wanted to learn, I think the master craftsmen in our factory are no worse than others. Their skills are more than enough for me to learn. So I don't think there's any need for me to go."

Liu Mei stared outside with her mouth slightly open. Xu Keke followed her gaze and turned around to see the factory leaders making their inspection.

Du Yi's uncle stood at the very front, watching her. At first, he was expressionless, but then, like a crack in a glacier, he laughed.

"Well said, that makes a lot of sense." Director Du nodded and walked into the workshop office.

"I heard from Director Liu that you graduated from high school?"

Xu Keke nodded.

"The factory's warehouse happens to be short of a manager, why don't you give it a try?"

Xu Keke was shocked. So casual? Is this how you select cadres—just a snap decision?

No wonder the original owner had such a peculiar request. Xu Keke glanced at the slogan posted on the wall: "This factory is our home; cleanliness depends on everyone."

So this is the home in the original owner's heart.

Xu Keke misunderstood. Actually, there were several candidates in the factory, and she was one of them. After listening to what she said, Factory Director Du thought her reasoning was quite good, which is why he made the decision.

"So, do you have any good suggestions for who should go to study?" Director Du asked Xu Keke humbly.

"I think Comrade Song Lin would be a perfect fit if there's still time. But he's injured his leg and needs to rest for at least another half month?"

"Half a month?" Factory Director Du looked at Xu Keke suspiciously. He might not know much about other things, but the person in the car accident was his own nephew. He had heard that it would take at least three months to recover. Was fifteen days too fast?

“I heard from the doctor that they can be discharged in fifteen days, so I’m wondering if they can walk again in fifteen days. Studying is just sitting in the classroom, and with Song Lin’s temperament, he definitely won’t stay idle at home. Rather than sitting in the factory, it’s better to go out and study.”

"Is this Comrade Song's own idea?"

"This is our decision, as husband and wife." Xu Keke couldn't speak for Song Lin alone, but if one of them agreed, it should be considered a majority vote.

Factory Director Du nodded, "Okay, we'll discuss it further and get back to you as soon as possible."

"Factory manager, I need to take care of Song Lin these few days, so I'd like to ask for a few days off from the factory." As she spoke, Xu Keke took out the sick leave certificate she got from the hospital yesterday.

Director Du took it very seriously, saying, "You've been running back and forth between these two places, and you've even gotten sick. This shows that our factory leadership hasn't been thorough enough in their work."

With the factory leaders' approval, Xu Keke got herself another five days off. She happily rode her difficult-to-ride bicycle back to the Song family home.

While Guan was far away in the hospital, wondering who had brought him food that day, he was unaware that he was about to go to Beijing to study with an injured leg.
