The factory manager is just unaware of the situation; he's not stupid.
Section Chief Zhou didn't notice, but Xu Keke did see the change in the factory director's eyes.
Honesty and trustworthiness are indispensable virtues. And this factory manager, a former soldier, is surely aware of the situation, given his background as the head of security.
The factory manager called in his secretary, who wrote a certificate, stamped it with a red seal, and handed it to Xu Keke.
Xu Keke and Zeng Qiang repeatedly expressed their gratitude to the factory director. Zeng Geng's connections were still with the factory, and they wanted to leave a good impression on the director.
Once they were outside, Section Chief Zhou stopped the two men and took two packs of cigarettes from someone nearby. He had asked someone to prepare them for him while he was getting the certificate.
He handed the cigarettes to Zeng Qiang. "Look, I haven't had time to visit your dad. I remember he used to smoke. If he doesn't want these two packs, you can take them home and smoke them."
Zeng Qiang didn't want it at first, but after glancing at Xu Keke, he reluctantly stuffed it into his schoolbag.
"My dear niece, what are they investigating about my house?" Section Chief Zhou asked Xu Keke obsequiously.
"Well, since you haven't received the news, I'm telling you, but please don't tell anyone else," Xu Keke said, looking troubled.
"Yes, definitely, definitely," Section Chief Zhou quickly assured him. "Don't you trust my character? I'm the most discreet person."
Xu Keke sneered inwardly, "You dare call yourself a human being?"
"I won't lie to you, the higher-ups are about to release a policy on clearing out employees."
"What?"
Seeing his dazed expression, Xu Keke laughed, "That house used to belong to someone, but it was expropriated. Now the government is returning it to the owner. So that house goes back to where it came from."
Section Chief Zhou was dumbfounded. "If we return it to them, where will we live?"
"I heard that people will go back to where they lived before being allocated these houses. But it's hard to say for those who didn't have a house before."
"We gave our house to your family!"
That's why I said thank you.
Seeing the worried look on Section Chief Zhou's face, Xu Keke smiled. She guessed that Section Chief Zhou would definitely try something else.
So she didn't mention that there was actually a second part to the policy, which concerned resettlement.
However, this policy is still a long way from being issued to being implemented. Only someone like her, who is well-informed, would know about it.
Xu Keke and Zeng Qiang pushed the car out of the factory.
"Sis, did Director Liu really write you a note?"
When they reached the traffic light, Xu Keke took the letter out of her pocket and handed it to Zeng Qiang.
You wouldn't notice it unless you looked closely. But the sunlight reflected off it. The green light came on, but Zeng Qiang was still standing there dumbfounded, even though Xu Keke hadn't called him.
He caught up with Xu Keke on his bike. "Sis, you drew this! What if they really do something? You're too reckless."
Xu Keke smiled; she still had a note in her pocket. Wang Lin had overheard her conversation with Zeng Qiang and offered to help her get it issued.
However, the actual note didn't have any red writing. It was written to him by one of the chemical plant manager's former superiors.
