Xu Keke's long-winded explanation left Lin Juan speechless with anger.
Grandpa Zhao from next door lifted the curtain and came in. Lin Juan was crying and making a scene, and everyone in the yard had already heard everything outside.
Grandpa Zhao said to Lin Juan, "Song Lin's mother, Song Lin has married a good wife. What a good thing the child said. You should let Song Lin decide for himself. Don't let the child hate you later. You can't be a good mother and son, and in the end, you'll become enemies."
Grandpa Zhao was such a helpful wingman! Xu Keke mentally gave Grandpa Zhao a thumbs up.
Lin Juan remained silent for a long time before gritting her teeth and saying, "Fine, you're all grown up now, and you don't like listening to what I say anymore. You can make your own decisions."
Lin Juan got up sadly and went back to her small house alone. Grandpa Zhao sighed and followed her inside.
Xu Keke suddenly thought of something. But the thought was too quick. It flashed through her mind, and she didn't grasp it.
Song Lin ignored whether his mother was upset or needed comforting, and asked Xu Keke with great interest, "What do you think I need to prepare for my studies?"
Looking into Song Lin's earnest eyes, Xu Keke shook her head seriously.
She's not his mother, what is she thinking! Prepare whatever you want, what does it have to do with me?
Xu Keke didn't help him. This didn't dampen Song Lin's enthusiasm in the slightest. He was like a teenager about to leave home to conquer the world, his heart filled with immense excitement.
He limped into the house, leaning on his cane, and took a pen and paper. He returned and sat down at the table, carefully recording what he thought needed to be prepared.
Seeing that he still wanted to discuss things with her from time to time, Xu Keke decisively took the two children and slipped out.
“His maternal grandparents wanted to see the child that day, but they're moving in a couple of days and will live far away. I'll take them back to see him.”
Xu Keke didn't want to stay here. She knew very well that once Song Lin finished writing that form, he would hand it to her, and then the task of preparing these things would fall to her.
She's crazy for meddling in his business. She's not his mother.
Unlike Lin Juan, Song Lin didn't care who the child was close to. So, while he was engrossed in his daydreams about the future, he casually agreed.
Xu Keke held Fu Bao in her arms. Zhao Di was beside her, holding onto her clothes. The three of them walked to the Zeng family's house.
Upon seeing Fu Bao and Zhao Di, Zeng Geng and Li Wenlian were so excited they didn't know what to do.
They put the two children on the bed and stood by, watching them with amusement. They had only seen Fu Bao once, when he was born. They hadn't seen Zhao Di for many years.
They laid out everything they could eat in the house, but it still didn't seem like enough. They kept thinking about going out to buy something else, but Xu Keke stopped them.
When they came in, Zeng Geng was listening to the radio. Fu Bao stared curiously at the small black box that could make sound.
Seeing that he was interested, Zeng Geng simply put the radio in front of him.
This delighted Fu Bao. His little hands pressed the buttons on the radio, twisting and turning it repeatedly. With each twist, a piercing sound came from the radio.
Xu Keke moved it aside, forbidding him from playing with it anymore. Fu Bao protested, babbling a long string of words that no one else could understand.
Zeng Geng asked Xu Keke, "I remember this child is one year and five months old, why can't he speak yet?"
Zeng Geng reminded her, and Xu Keke then realized that the child didn't seem to know how to even greet people.
"It's alright, people say that great people are slow to speak. It's okay for boys to speak a little later," Li Wenlian said, offering her disapproving advice.
“I think the child is in good spirits. When you get back, you should talk to him more. In the future, if he wants something, make him say it. If he doesn’t say it, don’t give it to him. Your brother was like that when he was little. He wouldn’t talk, and we wouldn’t give him food. He’ll get better over time.”
Zeng Geng, with his extensive experience, explained to Xu Keke. Then, when Fu Bao pointed at the radio and started making noises, Xu Keke saw Zeng Geng pick up the radio without saying a word and place it directly in front of Fu Bao.
We agreed that we would let him tell us what he wanted before giving it to him.
Not only that, when Xu Keke complained that the radio was too loud and wanted to take it back, Zeng Geng scolded her mercilessly.
Xu Keke finally understood what the so-called "grandparental affection" meant.
Xu Keke stayed with the two children until night.
Yang Xia cooked when she came back. Her cooking is no worse than Lin Juan's. It's a different style, a bit on the salty-sweet side. Xu Keke liked it very much.
That evening, Zeng Qiang and Yang Xia took the mother and her two children back home.
When she got home, Lin Juan stared blankly at a piece of paper. It was clear that her mood hadn't improved at all.
She hasn't recovered from the blow of her son disobeying her.
She didn't even blame Xu Keke for taking the two children out without her permission.
She rolled her eyes at Xu Keke, picked up the paper, and scooped Fu Bao up in her arms. Then she turned and went inside.
Xu Keke helped Zhao Di finish washing up. When they entered the room, they saw Song Lin lying comfortably on the double bed.
Are you kidding me? How am I supposed to sleep at night like this?
Before Song Lin returned, Xu Keke carefully tidied up the small single bed where Zhao Di slept.
"You're leaving soon, so you must take good care of your leg. If we sleep in the same bed tonight, and I accidentally kick you or step on your leg, you won't be able to make it to the capital."
I've already made up the bed where Zhao Di sleeps. Tonight, Zhao Di and I will sleep in the double bed, and you can sleep in the single bed.
Xu Keke spoke to him gently and patiently.
