Xu Keke entered the warehouse and carefully looked through it.
There are many kinds of food, but the advantage is that the space is large, and everything is displayed clearly.
It seems to be a continuation of the previous arrangement, separating raw materials and semi-finished products. They are placed on both sides, with a walkway of more than one meter wide in the middle.
When Xu Keke looked, she saw Liu Wen carrying a notebook that used to hang on the wall, walking around and occasionally jotting something down.
Xu Keke followed behind him, chatting as they walked. She then learned that the reason the factory was so dilapidated was because it was an old factory building.
"Are you making a list of things that are going to be gone?"
Liu Wen was somewhat surprised, wondering how Xu Keke had figured it out. Nevertheless, he nodded in agreement.
He didn't hold back, showing Xu Keke how he judged that the items were almost gone.
“The logs used to be this high, but now they only go this far. That's why we're short. We need to tell the workshop to stock up. They need to be this high so as not to delay production.”
Watching him repeatedly measure himself with his hands, Xu Keke recalled a sentence from a book: "The wisdom of the working people is boundless."
Before Xu Keke could return to the workshop, her apprentice Xifeng took advantage of her break to bring her the cups and other things she usually used.
Seeing Xifeng and Liu Wen greeting each other familiarly, Xu Keke asked curiously, "Do you know each other?"
Xi Feng laughed and said, "Master Liu is the younger brother of Director Liu from our workshop."
Xu Keke suddenly realized that they both had the surname Liu. But the two looked so different.
Liu Wen asked Xi Feng to help him get something for his sister. The two of them went out.
Du Yi whispered to Xu Keke, "How come you don't know anything? They're half-siblings. Director Liu's stepmother is sick in the hospital right now. Liu Wen and his father take turns staying with her at the hospital every day. They come to the factory before dawn every single day. Everyone in the factory knows that."
Everyone in the factory knows, at least the original owner doesn't. Xu Keke rolled her eyes at him. She kicked the chair he was sitting on and said disdainfully, "Move over a bit."
Du Yi's chair was found for him by Master Liao. Although Master Liao said he couldn't find a table.
Xu Keke guessed that he probably thought this person might leave at any time. Moving here would be too much trouble to move out again later.
But for some reason, Mr. Liao placed Du Yi's chair next to her, so that the two of them ended up sharing a desk.
"Why are you so disgusted with me? I was the one who offered to come and help you at the warehouse."
"Help me..." Xu Keke thought to herself, surprised that this guy was all talk and no action.
She was preoccupied and didn't want to waste time talking to him. Following her own ideas, she wrote a simple plan for the warehouse renovation.
Du Yi watched from the side, completely bewildered. Liu Wen walked in and stood behind her for a long time, observing.
He understood, glanced thoughtfully at Xu Keke, and then lay back down on the table to sleep.
At lunchtime, I watched as Chef Liao formally set out wine glasses and took out two side dishes: a cucumber salad and a stir-fried tofu.
Then he pulled a bottle of wine from under the table and started drinking it.
Xu Keke's feelings could no longer be described as shock.
She's not the kind of person who's too shy to say anything when she first arrives in a new place.
They asked Master Liao directly, "Aren't you afraid of affecting your work by drinking like this in the factory?"
Liu Wen glanced at the two of them, then lowered his head to continue eating his meal.
Master Liao sipped his liquor and sighed, "How could this affect my work? Back when I was an apprentice before Liberation, I would go get liquor for my master at noon."
Our masters are formidable; they can fire you at the slightest provocation. If the manager insists on keeping you, they won't teach you anything. They'll just leave you to languish and never graduate.
If you don't graduate from your apprenticeship, you'll earn less. You'll have no choice but to curry favor with your master.
After drinking at noon, the masters would take a nap. Back then, the apprentices did all the work, and the work was done whenever the masters woke up.
The shopkeeper didn't dare utter a single word; those craftsmen were all skilled workers, and no one dared to offend them.
“But this is the new China now. There are no apprentices to do the work for you anymore. After you finish drinking, how will you get the work done this afternoon?” Xu Keke asked seriously.
Du Yi, who was behind her, tried to grab Xu Keke's sleeve, but Xu Keke pulled it away with one hand.
Master Liao chuckled, took another sip of his drink, and sighed, "What are you saying? There's no work this afternoon. There's no work for you to do here. Little Zeng, I was just about to tell you, don't write or draw. Go home and find some yarn, and knit a sweater or scarf for your kids or grandparents. That would be fine."
After eating the dishes and drinking a cup of wine, Master Liao, in high spirits, spoke earnestly to Xu Keke.
"What's the matter? Don't take it so seriously, there's no need. Take me, for example. I come from a poor peasant family. I used to work in a factory, and I was always afraid my mentor wouldn't teach me. I was like a grandson. And what happened? I was so serious all that, and I'm still just coasting along here."
Master Liao let out a burp, "Even if I do nothing, no one dares to fire me. There are plenty of people like me in this factory."
Master Liao smiled and glanced at Du Yi. He then poured another cup.
Du Yi thought, "...". He regretted coming to this shabby warehouse; not a single person here knows how to speak politely.
Xu Keke understood what Master Liao meant. He was simply saying that he was a poor peasant, and the factory couldn't fire him, so they had to keep him on.
After lunch, Master Liao went to the warehouse, found a place to lie down and sleep.
Liu Wen was in high spirits in the afternoon. He took Xu Keke and went to each workshop and the purchasing department to explain the missing items he had noted down in the morning.
“If I take a day off and don’t come, just do this. Don’t go into too much detail, just give them a rough estimate. I can tell you’re smart; you can figure out a few things.”
So this guy was really trying to get her to be his apprentice and assistant, a backup plan in case something happens at home. Xu Keke was speechless.
Liu Wen noticed Xu Keke's displeasure. He led her back, speaking slowly and deliberately.
"The factory has been doing this for almost ten years without any problems, which means that the current method is feasible. Since it has been proven in practice, there is no need to change the method. Why make trouble for ourselves?"
Xu Keke looked up at the sky. It was a clear, deep blue, without a single cloud. The sunlight was neither too hot nor too cold; it was the perfect moment. She sighed.
If the perpetrators are truly heinous criminals, she can handle them easily. Even in this new society, where everyone must abide by the law and cannot take lives arbitrarily, she can still find ways to make them suffer terribly.
However, people like Master Liao and Liu Wen are not bad people.
If she were to take action to reorganize the warehouse, their interests would be the first to be harmed.
But if she ignored these trivial matters, the original owner of this body would give her a stupid task. Xu Keke couldn't help but curse again in the comments.
