Factory Director Du accepted Xu Keke's suggestion and conducted separate training for the heads of each department before implementing process-oriented management across the entire factory.
These section chiefs had all worked in their positions for many years and considered themselves to have extensive work experience. However, the content of the training was completely unfamiliar to them.
They even created a list outlining everyone's daily, weekly, and monthly tasks. This immediately exposed the overstaffing and over-staffing problem in many departments.
Then the second bombshell dropped. Director Du said that the annual bonuses for each department would no longer be distributed per person as before. Instead, they would be allocated according to the factory's performance and distributed by department.
These section chiefs calculated that if they wanted to earn high bonuses, there was only one way: lay off the redundant staff. Those who remained had to be diligent and efficient.
People in the workshop had nowhere to get raw materials, so they did odd jobs. Now, rumors are circulating in the department that those who weren't serious about their work will be laid off and sent to the workshop.
The factory was in complete chaos.
Although Director Du kept taking the blame, saying it was all his idea, some people still started targeting Xu Keke.
In this day and age, the most effective way to attack a woman is to attack her sexual conduct.
He insulted her with all sorts of vile and offensive language, making it impossible for her to stay at the factory. Then he left.
No one said it to Xu Keke's face, because both the original owner and Xu Keke only interacted with a few close friends. Others had no chance to get close to her.
Besides, no matter how much the rumors spread, unless things escalate into a physical fight, no one will say such things to your face.
However, the rumors about her eventually reached Xu Keke's ears.
Xi Feng and Du Yi got into a fight with someone in the factory over her. Luckily, Liu Wen intervened quickly. I heard that Du Yi even picked up a brick.
The three of them almost got disciplined by the factory. In the end, out of respect for Factory Director Du, they were only given a warning. He said that if it happened again, they would be severely punished.
No matter what Xu Keke told them, she didn't care. She never cared what others thought of her. She wasn't living for others.
But the people around her still didn't believe her.
As an ordinary female worker in a leather shoe factory, Xu Keke never imagined that one day she would receive the treatment of having a special team set up specifically for her to conduct internal and external investigations.
A special investigation team, led by a deputy director of the Light Industry Bureau and including several designated employees from the factory, was formed to conduct an on-site investigation into Xu Keke's personal issues.
If she hadn't heard that she had been reported, Xu Keke would have almost thought she was being promoted to some important position in the bureau.
Otherwise, why would there be such a large-scale operation?
Looking at the guilty-looking Factory Director Du across from her, Xu Keke asked seriously, "If we were to investigate you, given your rank, would this be the only treatment you would receive?"
Director Du, who was about to offer her some words of comfort, was instead amused by her. "To investigate me, a deputy bureau chief can't lead the team; at the very least, it has to be a deputy mayor."
Xu Keke curled her lip in disbelief.
The project investigation team was accompanied by Factory Director Chen, Director Feng, Yang Lu from the labor union, and the two section chiefs from the labor and wages department and the security department.
They entered the conference room in a grand procession.
Xu Keke and Factory Director Du stood up at the same time, as if by unspoken agreement.
Apart from Director Feng's sarcastic expression, both Factory Director Chen and Yang Lu remained calm. Factory Director Chen, in particular, wore an anxious expression of concern for his comrade.
Xu Keke spotted the woman immediately—the fashionable woman who had been looking for Wang Lin at the restaurant that day.
She followed behind Deputy Director Fang, carrying a briefcase, her chunky heels creating a rhythmic cadence. Her cream-colored trench coat swayed gracefully with each step.
The woman also saw Xu Keke, and her expression was somewhat arrogant.
He glanced to the side, his eyes filled with scrutiny and disdain. "I knew you were Zeng Jin. Wang Lin even said I was mistaken."
Deputy Director Fang, who was leading the team, turned his head warily, "Zheng Shu! What, you two know each other?"
Zheng Shu rolled her eyes at Xu Keke, "She's Wang Lin's old classmate, and now she's Wang Lin's neighbor."
That sarcastic tone suggests a strained relationship.
Deputy Director Fang pondered for a moment, then asked Xu Keke in a businesslike manner,
"Do you think I should ask Comrade Zheng Shu to leave?"
Being treated with such respect truly flattered Xu Keke. She quickly waved her hand politely. Just kidding, avoiding the topic now wouldn't be an admission of anything between her and Wang Lin.
"It's okay, we're not familiar with each other. Besides, you can check whatever you want, however you want."
Deputy Director Fang nodded. Ignoring Director Chen's gesture to invite him to sit down, he spoke seriously to Xu Keke.
"Comrade Zeng Jin, the bureau has received a large number of letters reporting on you, which has attracted the attention of the bureau leaders. In order to be responsible for the people and the matter, your work will be temporarily handled by other comrades until we have thoroughly investigated the matter. We will make further arrangements after the investigation is completed."
Please cooperate with our work during this time. We trust that the organization will not wrong an innocent person, nor will it let any guilty person go unpunished.
Being suspended from duty for investigation can evoke feelings of shame, worry, fear, anxiety, and other emotions in people who value their reputation.
But for Xu Keke, there's nothing wrong with just getting paid without doing any work.
"Can I ask what you mainly accused me of?" This was the question Xu Keke was most curious about.
"Well..." Deputy Director Fang hesitated, "Before the matter is fully investigated, we..."
