Chapter 284 Female Shoe Factory Workers in the 1970s 28

"Wait!" Yang Lu helped Lin Juan walk towards the main stage from the side.

Xu Keke was standing in front of the main stage when she saw Grandpa Zhao holding Fu Bao and standing to the side.

She led Xifeng past the crowd. When they reached Grandpa Zhao, she didn't say much and simply picked up Fubao.

Grandpa Zhao smiled awkwardly at her, his wrinkles deepening.

"The factory insisted that your mother-in-law come..."

"So, you couldn't persuade her either?" Xu Keke raised an eyebrow and turned to smile at Grandpa Zhao.

As for Lin Juan, if Grandpa Zhao really wanted to persuade her, she didn't believe he couldn't. She was more likely to want her to come.

Xi Feng, being quick-witted, immediately guessed that the little one her master was holding was Fu Bao. She stood behind Xu Keke, trying to make Fu Bao laugh.

Fu Bao wasn't shy at all, and even got a bit wild with some people. Seeing so many people, the little guy happily turned his head around.

He only felt embarrassed after being teased. He wrapped his arms around Xu Keke's neck and nuzzled her face affectionately.

Xifeng took a White Rabbit milk candy out of her pocket. She unwrapped it and held it in her hand, teasing Fubao.

While Fu Bao was getting candy, she easily took Fu Bao from Xu Keke's arms.

"Come here, I haven't seen Fu Bao yet, let me have a good look at her."

Yang Lu was already on the main stage, passionately accusing Xu Keke of being disrespectful to the elderly.

She wouldn't even pour water for her elderly relative who was sick at home. And she took her child out to eat.

They also refuse to provide the elderly with any support. Furthermore, ever since Technician Song left, they have been beating, verbally abusing, threatening, and intimidating the elderly.

After saying something, Yang Lu would turn to Lin Juan to confirm. "Isn't that right?"

Lin Juan nodded firmly in agreement.

Xu Keke stood to the side, arms crossed, smiling at Lin Juan.

Lin Juan stood on the stage, somewhat nervous. Her eyes kept glancing around, and her hands, gripping the hem of her dress, trembled uncontrollably.

Upon seeing Xu Keke, he quickly looked away. All the fierceness he usually displayed at home was gone. He's a typical bully at home.

Yang Lu's behavior baffled Xu Keke. After all this commotion, all she'd get was a ruined reputation and a get-out-of-the-factory job.

These things did Yang Lu no good whatsoever; they were just a way to vent her anger.

After she's done having her fun, she'll be facing the prospect of offending Director Du.

Even someone like me, from the bottom rungs and with limited access to information, could sense that Director Du's background was extraordinary. Someone like Yang Lu, with connections to higher-ups and access to the inside scoop, couldn't possibly be unaware of this.

Could it be that Director Du's backing has collapsed? That shouldn't be the case, Xu Keke couldn't understand it. In her previous life, Director Du was directly transferred to the Light Industry Bureau; he didn't stay at the factory for very long. Could it be that her influence had affected those above her?

Yang Lu kept repeating the same thing: how unfilial she was.

Xu Keke was too lazy to listen. She shifted her gaze to the people sitting on the stage. Factory Director Chen's brows were furrowed deeply. Even Director Feng on the other side was gritting his teeth, expressing his dissatisfaction with his actions.

Judging from his appearance, it seemed as if he could rush down and beat me up at the slightest command.

Xu Keke suddenly noticed that Deputy Director Fang and Factory Director Du exchanged a glance across the people on the stage.

Although she couldn't understand what they meant, Xu Keke didn't see a trace of anxiety or urgency in their eyes. The two of them were quite composed.

Song Lin was a technician at the factory, always considering himself an educated man. He was usually well-respected. When the factory workers heard that his mother had been abused, the whispers gradually grew louder, turning into accusations, and finally into insults.

"Don't listen to her," Liu Mei interrupted Yang Lu.

He said loudly, "I've been to Master Zeng's house. Her mother-in-law told me herself. They always buy coal themselves on Master Zeng's days off. Even so, she still complains that Master Zeng spends the whole day buying coal, which is a waste of time."

Besides, you all know what kind of person Master Zeng is in the factory. Everyone in the factory knows what she brings for lunch every day. It's always leftovers from home. As far as I know, Master Zeng has always handed over her entire salary in one lump sum over the years. She only has a few clothes all year round. She can't even bear to buy herself a new outfit.”

Liu Mei is the workshop director in the factory. She is an upright person and is well-respected by everyone in the factory. Therefore, people believe what she says.

Especially those who used to work in the same workshop as the original owner, all knew her character and started speaking up for her.

Below, everyone started shouting and talking at once.

Lin Juan looked down in a panic, her mouth agape as if she wanted to say something, but she didn't know what to say. She glanced at Yang Lu in a daze, unsure what to do.

Yang Lu, who was next to her, glanced at the main stage.

Xu Keke couldn't tell who she was looking at. Because none of the people sitting there seemed to intend to intervene.

But it was clear that she seemed confident. She calmly let the people below speak. Only after the clamor subsided did she speak again.

"They say you can know a person's face but not their heart. Zeng Jin used to give everyone the impression of being a hardworking, thrifty, and dedicated comrade. But ever since Technician Song left and Zeng Jin became the warehouse manager, she has changed."

We've all seen what she's become. So I'm not curious at all about the changes she's undergone at home.

She not only disrespects her elders at home, but also acts arrogantly and domineeringly once she enters the warehouse.

They ousted Master Liao, who came from a poor peasant family and had suffered a lifetime of hardship, from the warehouse.

Master Liao has worked diligently in the warehouse for so many years. She just wanted to have a legitimate reason to get him out of the warehouse so she could do whatever she wanted there.
