Chapter 288 Female Shoe Factory Workers in the 1970s (32)

Opening a store in a suburban area was a piece of cake for Factory Director Du. The site selection and application process were completed quickly.

Xu Keke took some time to go back to the Song family. Grandpa Zhao was very polite to her, and told her...

"Your mother-in-law asked me to tell you that she went to Beijing to see Song Lin. She left a key to the house with me and asked me to keep an eye on it for her."

This was the result Xu Keke wanted, but she didn't expect Lin Juan to be so fast.

“Your mother-in-law was widowed young, and her life has been difficult. She's just a bit sharp-tongued and stubborn. But she's not a bad person. Don't take it to heart.”

Xu Keke laughed. What kind of nonsense is this? Her life has been difficult, so others shouldn't hold it against her.

"If Song Lin were dead right now, I could be a widow. Then everyone would have to give way to me."

Grandpa Zhao was speechless after she said that, and he went back to his house in anger.

Hearing the commotion outside, Aunt Chen from the next room pushed open her door and saw Xu Keke. She paused for a moment, then greeted her somewhat unenthusiastically, "Oh, you're back!"

Before Xu Keke could speak, he shrank back.

Xu Keke didn't care at all. If you can get along with someone, great; if not, just go your separate ways and ignore each other. That's fine.

After packing some things, Xu Keke glanced at the books in the bookcase and planned to ask Zeng Qiang for help to take all the books away someday.

After locking the door and coming out, Xu Keke glanced at Aunt Chen, who was peering out of the window through the curtains. The moment Xu Keke's gaze passed over her, the curtains fell shut.

Aunt Chen's daughter-in-law was off work today and resting at home. I happened to come out to use the restroom, and seeing her, I smiled and asked her how she was doing, what she was doing back home for, and where she was staying.

After chatting for a couple of minutes, Xu Keke finally left.

Back at the factory, the sales department staff were all busy with the opening preparations at the retail outlets. Only Wei Guodong was in the factory office.

As Xu Keke entered the office, she immediately noticed a rectangular plaque, about the height of a person, with white background and red lettering, standing against the wall.

"Sis, look at 'Yamei Shoes Store Branch,' what do you think? Aren't those words written nicely?"

Upon seeing her arrive, Wei Guodong quickly approached and followed behind her, boasting of his achievement.

Ever since that meeting, Wei Guodong has been very sweet-talking, calling her "sister" all the time. He calls her even more affectionately than Zeng Qiang does.

Xu Keke put the bag she was carrying on the desk, glanced at the plaque, and, based on her experience with Wei Guodong over the past few days, raised an eyebrow and asked him, "Do I need to find someone for this too?"

"Of course, let me tell you, sis, this isn't just anyone. I found a master engraver from a lettering shop. He's the one who wrote the sign in front of the city hall back in the day. What do you think?"

Wei Guodong held a cloth bag in his hand, looking smug.

Xu Keke was quite surprised when she first heard him speak like that. But she couldn't help it; every single thing he handled followed this pattern.

It was all about how extensive his connections were and how many people he knew. Xu Keke was already numb to it all.

Looking at the rather mediocre handwriting, I reluctantly said, "Not bad, very good!"

That's enough for Wei Guodong.

He handed the paper package to Xu Keke, "Sis, I heard last time that you were going to buy a dress. This is for you."

Seeing his mysterious look, Xu Keke took it and opened it.

Inside was a knee-length brown plaid dress. It was a shirt style, quite rare these days. The combination of light and dark colors looked very nice.

It's obviously not something you can buy on the market.

Where did you get this?

"Sis, don't worry about that. You wanted to buy a dress, right? This dress will definitely look good on you."

This isn't about the money; the fabric and quality of this dress are something you can't buy even if you have the money in this day and age. Xu Keke wrapped it up and handed it back to him.

“You misheard me. The day I asked Xifeng to go shopping with me for a dress, it was for my younger brother and sister-in-law. Her birthday is coming up soon, and I'm staying at home now, which is troubling her. It wasn't something I wanted to buy myself.”

Wei Guodong put the paper package back on her desk. "I was originally bringing it for you too. It looks good on you."

"When our store opens, wear this, with a cardigan over it, and our factory's low heels. Trust me, it'll definitely be this..."

Wei Guodong gave a thumbs up again.

Seeing that Xu Keke wasn't persuaded, he drooped his lips in disappointment.

"No way, sis, you don't think like those people that only Lenin suits are what cadres like you should wear, do you? Besides, I bought this skirt, and I can't return it. No one in my family can wear it..."

He looks just like a Labrador Retriever. Especially those pleading eyes. You could say being handsome definitely adds to his appeal.

Although she didn't know if he was telling the truth, Xu Keke stopped pushing and shoving them.

"How much did you pay for it? Where did you buy it? If you don't tell me the truth, I don't want it."

Wei Guodong peeked outside, then leaned closer. "Nanhua Street, there's an alley over there, where a few shops can get goods from outside. They don't have as many as in Shanghai, but you can still find some good stuff. This is what I just happened to see."

I knew you'd look good in that....

"How much?" Xu Keke stared into his handsome eyes. "Don't lie to me!"

"Twenty...twenty!" Wei Guodong felt embarrassed by her stare and subconsciously looked away.

That's pretty much what Xu Keke thought.

Fortunately, the factory distributed subsidies yesterday, so Xu Keke still had some money. She took out twenty yuan from her pocket and handed it to Wei Guodong.

Wei Guodong didn't want it at first, but seeing Xu Keke's expression, he knew he couldn't refuse, so he obediently accepted it.
