Head Nurse Liu avoided Xiao Yujie and calmly walked to the other side of the bed. She glanced back at the intern nurse who was still standing there dumbfounded.
Fortunately, the nurse was only stunned, not truly dumbfounded, and immediately understood what she meant. She hurriedly carried the treatment tray over.
"Sit forward a bit, let me take a look at your wound. If it's serious, it needs to be treated again; this bandage won't do," Head Nurse Liu said calmly to Li Shaojie.
Li Shaojie awkwardly pulled his hand away from Xiao Yujie's and sat down a little further forward.
Head Nurse Liu skillfully removed the gauze from Li Shaojie's face, carefully examined the wound, and then looked at Xiao Yujie. "Dr. Xiao, I personally believe that treating the patient's facial wound like this is inappropriate. This bandaging does not benefit the wound at all; in fact, it's not good."
Xiao Yujie opened her mouth, wanting to say that this wasn't her patient. But she had indeed bandaged the wound herself, and she was the one who delivered the medical record to the nurses' station to arrange the ward, so she could only keep quiet.
"Furthermore, given the extent of his injuries, hospitalization is completely unnecessary. There is absolutely no need to stay in a special ward."
Nurse Liu's few words completely pulled Xiao Yujie out of her self-satisfaction. Nurse Liu was a meticulous person when it came to her work. Her words meant she wouldn't let the matter end so easily.
Xiao Yujie hurriedly looked at Fang Minghui. Both of Fang Minghui's parents were doctors at the hospital; his father was the head of internal medicine. He also handled Li Shaojie's outpatient clinic. She hoped Fang Minghui could stand up like a man.
But to her disappointment, Fang Minghui, though staring at her with bloodshot eyes, showed no intention of saying a word.
After all, Fang Minghui wasn't stupid. If he stood up now, no one would blame him later. They would only think that Du Junsheng, a teacher close to him, was abusing his position for personal gain.
How could he possibly put his teacher in a difficult position for the sake of such a woman?
While inwardly despising Fang Minghui's despicable character, Xiao Yujie also felt a growing sense of unease about herself. She didn't know how far Head Nurse Liu would go, but she knew she wouldn't fare well.
Xiao Yujie was in a state of confusion. Without her interference, Li Shaojie got off the hospital bed.
He tried to appear more sincere, but little did he know that his once handsome face, marked with scratches and covered in medicine, looked somewhat comical.
"Yu Jie and I—no, Xiao Yu Jie and I—dated each other in college. Her family looked down on me because I was from the countryside, so they wouldn't let us see each other. After we broke up, we really didn't have any contact again. You can believe me."
Du Junsheng was utterly disappointed in his student and angrily said, "Why are you explaining these things to me? Now that you've been hurt, the person you should be seeking forgiveness from is Wenting. In your heart, you didn't marry Wenting because you liked her or loved her, but because she's my daughter, right? Li Shaojie, why exactly did you marry Wenting?"
Why did he marry Du Wenting? Because he didn't want to be a doctor; being a doctor was too tiring. Even someone with Fang Minghui's family background, after more than a year in the hospital, was still running between the emergency room and the outpatient department. But even so, given the opportunity, Fang Minghui was able to persevere.
As for himself, according to the assignment regulations, he was to return to where he came from. After graduation, he would go to the county hospital, which would be his final destination. He endured so much hardship and studied so hard to go to university, not so that he could go back.
That's why he chose Xiao Yujie; he wanted to stay in the city through marriage. Later, he met Du Wenting, who would spare him night shifts, endless overtime, and the stress of not even having time for lunch. He wouldn't have to deal with those unreasonable patients. Why wouldn't he do it?
As long as he marries Du Wenting and stays at the university, he won't have to do any of these things anymore.
I knew he was dating Du Junsheng's daughter and they were getting married soon. He didn't have to do anything, or even ask; as soon as his internship ended, he received a notice to stay on at the university.
He knew Du Junsheng's status at school all too well, which was why he was thinking about how to explain things to Du Junsheng and calm him down. In his mind, as long as he could make things clear to Du Junsheng, everything would be fine.
Li Shaojie looked at Xu Keke. Before today, it would have been easy to fool her. But after this morning, he knew that whatever he said to her now would be useless.
"You said you and Xiao Yujie haven't had any contact since you broke up. So you mean that everything Xiao Yujie said just now was just wishful thinking on her part?" Xu Keke didn't need him to explain anything.
Li Shaojie, “…”. This tactic seemed familiar; he needed to think about it.
"Shaojie, what are you still hesitating for? We should both bravely face our feelings. Your forbearance will only make her more unscrupulous in humiliating you. Don't you understand?"
Xiao Yujie walked to Li Shaojie's side and boldly took his arm. She had already figured it out; her job was ruined.
Needless to say, with Fang Minghui's parents involved, plus Du Junsheng, she definitely couldn't stay in this hospital any longer. Now, besides Li Shaojie, she has nothing left.
Xiao Yujie's words made Xu Keke laugh in anger, "What did I humiliate you two? I'm just asking you two, were you hugging and pouring out your hearts to each other just now because you two are in love?"
Xiao Yujie, "Of course..."
Lin Munan frowned. What was the point of worrying about this now? It was just rubbing salt into her wounds. She was about to speak when Du Junsheng slapped her arm, stopping her.
Xu Keke: "I wasn't asking you, I was asking Li Shaojie. Li Shaojie, by now, anyone with eyes can see that you don't love me. We can't be together anymore. You still won't admit you love Xiao Yujie, so perhaps you love someone else. So, last night..."
