Chapter Nine: High School Female Teachers in the 1980s

Judging from Fang San's demeanor, Lin Munan knew that the boy wasn't one to talk much, so she didn't press him. Mainly, she also had a lot of questions she wanted to ask her daughter.

"How did you know we were coming?" The couple had decided to come, but hadn't told anyone.

Lin Munan looked at her daughter, and for some reason, she felt that something was off about her today. This intuition made her uneasy. Even though her daughter was perfectly fine right in front of her, she just felt a strange unease.

Xu Keke: "My senior brother just talked to me. He doesn't approve of coming to the inpatient department. He said there are too many beds and we shouldn't come here to take up a bed. But it's too late. Xiao Yujie has already arranged a private room. My senior brother called me aside and told me that he had already called my dad and that I should be prepared to be scolded. I guess you guys will be worried and come over after you get the news. It just so happens that Third Brother wanted to smoke, so I came down with him."

Lin Munan said with some concern, "How serious is Shaojie's injury? If it's really serious, transferring him to the inpatient department is appropriate. Doctors need to treat sick family members too. But he needs a private room, right? Xiao Yujie, is she Minghui's girlfriend? Why is she making this arrangement? Isn't it inappropriate?"

Hearing from his daughter that Li Shaojie was really alright, Lin Munan finally felt completely relieved.

After greeting Fang San, Du Junsheng, who was standing to the side, said, "I told you at home that everything would be fine. You're just being too close to the situation to see clearly. Think about it, if the injury were serious, would Minghui not have taken care of it? Not to mention, Shaojie's relationship with us is just that of an ordinary patient; he wouldn't be irresponsible."

"Then why did you rush over here with me?" Lin Munan glared at him, and Du Junsheng wisely shut his mouth.

It was windy outside. Lin Munan, holding his daughter's hand, found a less crowded passageway. "Alright, tell me, what happened? We just got married yesterday, how come Shaojie is injured so early this morning?"

Xu Keke didn't hide anything or exaggerate anything; she told Lin Munan and Du Junsheng everything that had happened since she woke up that morning.

Seeing that the family was talking, Fang San took the initiative to stand aside and stand guard.

The more Lin Munan listened, the more his brows furrowed. "Do you think there's another reason why Shaojie didn't go back to his room to sleep last night?"

Seeing her daughter nod, Lin Munan shook her head disapprovingly, "Mom thinks you're overthinking it. Shaojie wouldn't be like that. He's probably just drunk."

Her daughter, while not exactly a beauty queen, possessed a serene and charming demeanor. Li Shaojie shouldn't be so distant; what's the point of marriage then? It's not like her daughter can't find a husband, nor is it her family forcing him to marry her.

Xu Keke said, "I don't think I'm overthinking it. If he really drank too much, he could have gone back to his room to sleep. Why did he have to sleep on the sofa? This is his wedding night. His family would rather let his sister go in and sleep with his parents than remind him to go back to his room. Do you really think that's normal?"

There are some things that didn't happen in this life, and Xu Keke can't say them directly. The original owner and Li Shaojie didn't consummate their marriage until two or three months later. That time, Du Junsheng found Li Shaojie, and coincidentally, Li's parents had taken Li Yumei back to their hometown to handle household registration matters, so it was just the two of them at home.

Lin Munan adjusted his glasses, his expression grave. "Tingting, while this situation certainly doesn't make sense logically, the most important thing between husband and wife is mutual trust. I believe what you've said is the truth. But from what you've said, it sounds like Shaojie's parents have bigger problems than he does. This is quite unexpected. I always thought Shaojie's parents were honest and kind. I also thought Shaojie's good character must be due to his parents' upbringing. Now it seems..."

Lin Munan hesitated and said, "Perhaps we really don't know enough about them."

Lin Munan then added, "But don't worry too much about it. They'll be gone in a few days. It's still just the two of you living your lives."

Xu Keke: "What if his parents don't want to leave and want to stay?"

Lin Munan was stunned, and subconsciously glanced at Du Junsheng, "Really?"

"Tingting, if Shaojie's parents insist on staying in the city, you absolutely cannot object. They are parents, and it is Shaojie's duty as a child to fulfill his filial duty," Du Junsheng said seriously to Xu Keke.

She knew it would be like this. Xu Keke sighed inwardly. Du Wenting had suffered so much in her past life, partly because of her family education, which always demanded that she regulate her thoughts and behavior. But no one had ever reminded her that one cannot treat petty people with gentlemanly methods.

Another point is that everyone assumes Li Yumei is Li Shaojie's younger sister. Even if the two act intimately, everyone just thinks they have a very good sibling relationship. No one would think of anything else.

Fortunately, Xu Keke now has other plans. She told the Du couple this to give them a heads-up, not to expect them to immediately change their opinion of Li Shaojie.

"Sister-in-law... Sister-in-law!" Hearing this timid voice, Xu Keke calmly turned around.

"Hello, Uncle. Hello, Auntie." Li Yumei greeted Du Junsheng and Lin Munan politely.

She really has two faces, one in public and one in private. Just now in the ward, she was following Xiao Yujie around the whole time, completely ignoring me. Xu Keke smiled faintly.

Upon seeing who was with Xu Keke, Li Guodong and Lu Cuihua, who were following behind, quickly walked over and greeted the Du couple.

Although I no longer had a good impression of this family, the Du couple still retained their good manners. They exchanged a few polite greetings, but the former intimacy was completely gone.

"Where are you headed? We heard Shaojie was injured, and we were just about to go see him," Lin Munan asked them politely.
