Chapter Twelve: High School Female Teachers in the 1980s

After all that trouble, I left the hospital at noon. The blazing sun warmly embraced the earth.

Standing in front of Fang San's yellow van, Fang Minghui held onto the door and asked his teacher, "How about I ask for leave this afternoon and go with you?"

Du Junsheng glared at him. "What are you going to do? Just go to your shift. So many patients are waiting. I'm just having them move their things out. It's not like I'm doing anything else."

Xu Keke leaned out of the car and asked, "Senior, are you alright? Do you need to take half a day off to rest?"

Fang Minghui waved his hand with a wry smile, "It's alright, I'll be fine after a while. It's better to know sooner rather than later than later, isn't it?" It would be even more troublesome if he really married Du Wenting like this.

Xu Keke nodded in agreement; he was right.

In his previous life, Fang Minghui and Xiao Yujie were married for three years and had a child who was almost two years old before they divorced.

For the sake of their child, Fang Minghui's family kept the reason a secret. It was only because of their close relationship and the fact that she was involved that Fang Minghui told Du Wenting.

Xiao Yujie initiated the divorce, and she didn't hide it. She openly admitted that she couldn't forget Li Shaojie. She even believed that Li Shaojie divorced her because he couldn't let go of her.

What Xiao Yujie didn't know was that Du Wenting and Li Shaojie divorced because Du Wenting discovered that Li Shaojie was having an improper relationship with Li Yumei. Moreover, it was Du Wenting who initiated the divorce.

Today, Xu Keke is betting on the same crazy determination that Xiao Yujie had in her past life—the kind of determination that made her willing to abandon her husband and children to be with Li Shaojie.

Just now in the ward, Du Junsheng gave Xu Shaojie an ultimatum: move all of his family's belongings out before dark today, or he would throw them all out.

They were worried about their daughter going back alone, so Du Junsheng and Lin Munan took Fang San's advice, left their bicycles at the hospital, and followed Fang San's car back to the Economics and Management Compound.

"You already knew about him and Xiao Yujie?" As soon as the car started, Du Junsheng, who was sitting in the back seat, suddenly asked Xu Keke.

Xu Keke: "It's not early, it's this morning." She knew this when she received the memories.

"Don't ask such useless questions. My daughter isn't stupid. If she had known earlier, she wouldn't have married this bastard." Lin Munan turned around and gave her husband a dissatisfied look.

Du Junsheng quickly explained, "I just wanted to tell my daughter that she should tell us if she finds any clues next time. That way, we can cooperate with her when she wants to do something."

"Pah, pah, pah, what next time?" Lin Munan pulled Xu Keke away and turned his head away, ignoring Du Junsheng.

Unexpectedly, Professor Du, who always had a stern face in public, was so timid at home. Fang San, who was driving, couldn't help but laugh with schadenfreude.

The three members of the Du family returned to the Economics and Management compound, ate a meal, and rested at home while waiting for the Li family to come and pick up their belongings.

At the hospital, after everyone had left, Li Shaojie and Xiao Yujie looked at each other in bewilderment.

For some reason, after that commotion, Xiao Yujie felt empty inside. Her unrequited love for Li Shaojie was like a flame that had been extinguished; it still had some warmth, but it was no longer passionate.

"Do you believe what she said?" Noticing that Xiao Yujie's emotions were not quite right, Li Shaojie looked tenderly into her eyes and asked softly.

"How could that be? I know she did it on purpose. She just wants us to be suspicious of each other. I told you, she's a really bad person." Xiao Yujie wrapped her arms around Li Shaojie's waist, pressing herself close to him, as if drawing energy from his love.

"Excuse me, sorry to bother you," two nurses walked in from outside. One of them, a short nurse with a round face, looked at the two of them with a mocking expression.

"Nurse Liu said you should settle the bill before you leave." After saying that, she stuffed the form in her hand into Li Shaojie's hand.

Then the two nurses began tidying the bed. It seemed like routine work, nothing different from usual.

But they were clearly doing it on purpose, raising the bed sheet high and then forcefully throwing it onto the hospital bed. The resulting gust of wind slapped directly into their faces.

This is an attempt to force them to leave; isn't that obvious?

"Shameless! Seducing someone else's newlywed husband. Pah!" A nurse in her thirties with sharp, almond-shaped eyes muttered disdainfully as she laid out the sheets.

"Alright, the guy isn't any better. A worn-out shoe and a worn-out car make a perfect pair."

Xiao Yujie was furious. "Who are you talking about?"

"Whoever I'm talking about knows it in their heart. You slut, it's such a shame that Dr. Fang, such a good person, had to run into a shameless woman like you. What bad luck!"

Xiao Yujie bit her lower lip tightly, her chin trembling. They hadn't treated her like this before. They were only doing this because Fang Minghui's parents worked at this hospital. These people were just petty people who judged people based on their status.

Fearing she might cause trouble with these people again, Li Shaojie picked up the black briefcase Xu Keke had left behind from the bed. He then took Xiao Yujie's hand and left the ward.

The people in the corridor hadn't dispersed yet. When they saw the two of them come out, they all looked at them meaningfully and whispered among themselves.

Li Shaojie released Xiao Yujie's hand, his head bowed low. He just wanted to leave as quickly as possible. Xiao Yujie, on the other hand, seemed to want to prove something, stubbornly raising her head and slightly tilting her chin. She deliberately linked arms with Li Shaojie and walked past the crowd.

The two did not expect that they would be stopped as soon as they reached the nurses' station.

"Pay the special ward fees over there," the young intern nurse who had just followed Nurse Liu ran out and pointed to the way they had come from.

Fearing Li Shaojie might not understand, he added, "You can only leave after you've paid the fees."

Li Shaojie and Xiao Yujie had no choice but to turn back. This time, Xiao Yujie lowered her head, her hand tightly gripping Li Shaojie's sleeve. The onlookers, having nothing better to do, followed behind the two.
