As we walked, we arrived at the Imperial Examination Hall. On the outer wall was posted the ranking list of this year's imperial examination. It was posted a few days ago, and Jiang Luochuan's name was prominently listed.
Hua Ling was just thinking about Jiang Luochuan when his voice rang in her ears.
"Hanabishi!"
Xiaowu and Li Yan both straightened their backs. This was Hua Ling’s ex-fiancé!
Hua Ling looked at Jiang Luochuan suspiciously: "Are you calling me, Master?"
Jiang Luochuan was stunned and nodded.
He had a lot of questions in his mind, but his expression changed after hearing Hua Ling's words.
She asked, "How do you know my name? Have we met before?"
Jiang Luochuan was struck by the strangeness in Hua Ling's eyes and tried to rush forward but was stopped by Xiao Wu and Li Yan.
He asked anxiously, "Hua Ling, what's wrong with you? I'm Jiang Luochuan."
"Jiang Luochuan?" Hua Ling was bewildered. "Sorry, I may have forgotten something. Are you my old friend?"
"I'm your..." The word "fiancé" remained unsaid. The guard looked imposing and looked like someone who was not to be trifled with. Hua Ling's husband was no ordinary man, and he was afraid of causing her trouble. With a complicated expression, he asked, "Are you okay now?"
Hua Ling looked at her warily and did not answer.
Jiang Luochuan was dejected.
He and Hua Ling were childhood sweethearts and neighbors, growing up together and having an extraordinary bond. If he had known that taking part in the imperial examination would cause him to lose her, he would have preferred to wait another three years.
Xiao Wu's eyes were as sharp as knives, and his tone was extremely cold. "Sir, please respect yourself. This is our Regent's wife, not some lady that Young Master Jiang knows."
Jiang Luochuan smiled bitterly. It turned out to be the Regent. How could he compete with him?
He bowed sadly to Hua Ling and said, "I'm sorry, Jiang will leave now."
Hua Ling watched Jiang Luochuan walk away. She had seen Jiang Luochuan later in her previous life.
The first person she saw when she was driven out of the Regent's Palace was Jiang Luochuan. She didn't remember Jiang Luochuan, but he knew her. However, he didn't save her when she was taken away by the thugs.
She knew why Jiang Luochuan didn't lend a helping hand.
He shouldered the responsibility of revitalizing the family and did not dare to risk offending the regent and the emperor to save her. He watched her being raped by gangsters and then died.
Perhaps out of guilt, or perhaps out of affection for their childhood sweetheart, he collected her body and did not let it be exposed in the wilderness.
That's all I have to say.
He later met Wen Qinning, who looked similar to her, and developed a liking for her.
She didn't hate him, but her budding admiration for him was gone.
"Let's go."
Thinking about her past life, Hua Ling felt depressed.
Xiao Wu whispered, "Do you want to go sit in the tallest building in the capital?"
Hua Ling was suspicious: "The tallest building?"
"Yes." Xiao Wu saw her interest and raised the corner of his lips. "The tallest building is Wangxian Tower. It is said that you can see immortals there. Besides being famous for its food and wine, the environment is also excellent."
Li Yan reminded her: "It costs fifty taels of silver to go to the top floor."
Hua Ling said generously, "It's just fifty taels of silver. I'll pay for both of you." Anyway, it was Fang Yunheng's money, so she didn't feel bad at all.
Wangxian Tower is nine stories high. Xiaowu and Li Yan put down the backpack and asked the steward to look after it first, then walked towards the stairs with Hua Ling.
After a while, Hua Ling couldn't move anymore because of walking on the street for a long time. Qing Lingling's eyes fell on Xiao Wu's back and ordered: "Xiao Wu, squat down."
Xiaowu didn't understand why, but he squatted down anyway.
Hua Ling jumped up lightly and accurately hooked her arms around his neck, pressing her soft body tightly against his. The distance between them was so close that they could feel each other's breath.
Xiaowu quickly supported her, then his body stiffened.
Li Yan raised his eyebrows. For a weak woman, climbing nine floors was indeed not easy. He even suspected that Xiao Wu did it on purpose.
"Let's go." Hua Ling urged: "Hurry up."
Xiaowu: "Yes."
The three of them went up to a high-rise building where there were private rooms. Hua Ling asked for one and could overlook the beautiful scenery of Shengjing by opening the window.
She lamented, "It's a pity it's not night time now, and it's not a festival, so there won't be any fireworks."
Li Yan was still wondering whether to comfort her, but Xiao Wu had already made a suggestion.
"Fireworks aren't just for festivals. Madam, you can come back in the evening and I'll have someone prepare them for you."
Hua Ling's eyes lit up: "Really?"
"Of course." Xiao Wu paused, "Before the prince left, he told his subordinates to take good care of his wife."
Li Yan just listened to the two of them chatting back and forth, and found that he could not get a word in at all. He wondered if he was too silent in the past, so his ability to speak had declined.
At night, Hua Ling saw the fireworks as she wished. A bright smile spread across her face, and her eyes were filled with a charming charm.
Xiaowu also smiled.
Li Yan looked at Xiao Wu, then at Hua Ling.
The cool moonlight, as clear as water, spread over Hua Ling's graceful body like a veil. Her snow-white skirt danced in the wind. She stood by the railing, with an unparalleled appearance and her glass-like eyes filled with light, as if an immortal overlooking the world.
Li Yan's mind turned several corners in an instant.
Hua Ling was tired, so Xiao Wu carried her back and guarded her diligently on the big tree in the courtyard.
……………………
Xuanyuan Mo attacked Fang Yunheng on the way to the Heavenly Sacrifice, and arranged several waves of people to go and never return. A few days later, he himself was ambushed.
"Protect the emperor, protect the emperor!"
The enemy came with great force and the imperial guards tried their best to resist, but the sudden arrows still injured Xuanyuan Mo.
Xuanyuan Mo remained calm. With a wave of his arm, the extremely sharp arrow broke with a sound. His deep eyes shot out a cold star-like light, piercing straight at Fang Yunheng.
