The two walked into the palace side by side. The palace was particularly quiet at night, and the moonlight sprinkled on the ground like a layer of silver frost.
Although it was late at night, the palace was brightly lit. Countless luminous pearls emitted bright and soft light, illuminating the entire palace like daylight, even adding a more mysterious and solemn atmosphere than during the day.
The emperor sat at the top, and Prince Su sat at the bottom, holding the child in his arms. His eyes were gentle, and he just felt that the child was so sweet and soft that he couldn't get enough of looking at him.
The government doctor examined the child and found that he was fine, he just fell asleep because he was too tired from crying.
Ji Zhang knelt on the ground, sweating profusely.
Yun Yuan was sitting next to him. Because she had just been chased, her hair was slightly messy and her bun was a little crooked, but she had a unique beauty.
A tuft of hair fell by her ear, as soft as a silk thread, gently brushing against her delicate cheeks and rosy lips, adding a touch of charm to her.
The emperor glanced at her from time to time, and Yun Yuan let him look at her with empty eyes, like a porcelain doll that had lost its soul.
Ji Zhang pursed his lips, having many questions to ask Yun Yuan, but he didn't say them in the end.
Finally, Mu Xingzhi and Ji Huai arrived. Seeing that Yun Yuan was fine, they both breathed a sigh of relief.
"Your Highness Mu Xingzhi."
Ji Huai quickly followed up: "I am Ji Huai,
"Your Majesty, long live your Majesty."
"Get up." The emperor's eyes moved between Yun Yuan and the three men. "Tell me, who among you is the father of this child?"
"It's me!" Ji Zhang said quickly, "Yun Yuan is my original wife. I didn't know she was pregnant when I left, but she is definitely mine."
Ji Huai knelt on the ground: "The child is mine."
Ji Zhang was extremely angry and hit Ji Huai without caring about the emperor's presence. "She is your sister-in-law, how could you do this to her?"
Ji Zhang let him hit him on the back and said calmly, "Your Majesty, Yun Yuan is innocent. She was forced by me. I know what I did was wrong. Please forgive Yun Yuan, Your Majesty."
The emperor narrowed his eyes and asked Yun Yuan, "What do you say?"
Yun Yuan sat in a chair, stunned, and stated calmly, "The child is Ji Huai's. We were together briefly, but the court had an order that uncles and sisters-in-law could not marry. Ji Huai heard about Ji Zhang in the capital and wanted to dissolve our brotherhood so that we could be legitimate. But he never came back. I thought he... had married Mu Xingzhi."
Ji Zhang closed his eyes in pain. If he knew this would happen, what would he do? He himself didn't know.
The emperor's eyes slid across Yun Yuan's face, and he looked at Ji Huai fiercely: "You are having an affair without a matchmaker. I can punish you."
Mu Xingzhi quickly said, "Your Majesty, Yun Yuan is my wife. If you want to punish someone, punish me."
Ji Huai bowed to the emperor and said, "Your Majesty, I am the culprit and I will take full responsibility for all the blame."
"You two are truly loyal and righteous," the emperor said with great interest. "What if I were to kill Yun Yuan? Who among you would be willing to sacrifice your life in exchange?"
"I do!" Mu Xingzhi and Ji Huai said in unison.
Mu Xingzhi: "When Yun Yuan married me, I swore that I would protect her with my life."
Ji Huai: "Me too, I love her, and the child can't be without a mother. If one of us has to die, then let me die."
The emperor tutted, feeling annoyed.
"You are all willing to die for Yun Yuan, making it difficult for me to choose. Why don't you let Yun Yuan choose for me?"
He pulled out an exquisitely crafted dagger from his sleeve and, while everyone was stunned, handed it to Yun Yuan: "I want to see you do it yourself."
