Qingshan Temple.
Under the peach tree, Song Lingxi was nestled in front of Xie Changling, fast asleep. Pink petals fell and landed on her long eyelashes, forming a beautiful decoration.
Xie Changling's eyes were full of tenderness as he traced the red marks on her neck with his fingertips, a wicked smile playing on his lips.
Song Lingxi seemed to sense something was causing trouble. She wrinkled her small, straight nose and waved her little hand haphazardly, slapping it onto Xie Changling's hand.
With a crisp "snap," Xie Changling was stunned for a moment, but his first reaction was to look at Song Lingxi to see if he was awake.
Fortunately, Song Lingxi only thought she had photographed a small insect and did not wake up, which made Xie Changling breathe a sigh of relief.
Indeed, these past few days, he has been clinging to Xi'er, not giving her any chance to breathe, working day and night, and his schedule is completely reversed. It's normal for Xi'er to be tired.
As Xie Changling pondered, a look of longing and infatuation appeared on his face. He leaned down and kissed her forehead.
Just as he was about to continue, a furious shout came from the mountain pass: "Xie Changling, get the hell back here!"
Xie Changling looked up and saw Prime Minister Xie standing not far away.
However, after his initial surprise, Xie Changling ignored him and instead looked down at Song Lingxi, where he noticed her furrowed brows.
"Xi'er, be good, we won't listen, go to sleep."
Xie Changling gently comforted Song Lingxi, and finally managed to coax her to sleep before letting out a sigh of relief.
However, in just a short while, Prime Minister Xie had already walked towards him step by step, stood beside him, and stared intently at him.
"Shh!"
Xie Changling gave the Prime Minister a gesture, which successfully angered his father, Prime Minister Xie, to the point that his face turned red and he almost fainted.
He carefully placed Song Lingxi on the clean stone bed, then gave his father a hand signal, and Prime Minister Xie followed behind him with a dark face.
Once they found a place where they could see Song Lingxi without disturbing her, Xie Changling turned to look at his father.
"Father, what brings you here today?"
Xie Changling was not surprised that they were able to find his address, after all, he had not concealed his whereabouts at all, and did not have the guilty conscience of a lover.
"Xie Changling, are you trying to drive your father to his death? She is the current Empress!"
Just as Prime Minister Xie was about to unleash a torrent of curses, Xie Changling abruptly silenced him by pressing his pressure point: "Father, please keep your voice down, don't disturb Xi'er."
"!"
Even someone as composed as Prime Minister Xie was instantly enraged upon hearing this. His eyes practically spit fire, and his mouth opened and closed repeatedly, spewing extremely vulgar insults.
At this moment, Xie Changling turned to the side, gazing in the direction of Song Lingxi, and transformed into a stone gazing at his wife.
After Prime Minister Xie had been cursing for the entire duration of an incense stick burning, and his lips were about to crack, he was too exhausted to continue cursing. Only then did Ye Changling release his speech acupoint.
"Father, if you have something to say, just say it. Don't bother me and Xi'er."
Xie Changling struck first, and sure enough, because of this, Prime Minister Xie really didn't dare to waste any more words; it would strain his voice and his emotions.
"You're useless. The Emperor wants you to go to the frontier as soon as possible. The Northern Kingdom has colluded with the Jin tribe to invade. They have already broken through Yanmen Pass and are about to attack Yumen Pass. The situation is urgent."
No matter how sincere and earnest Prime Minister Xie's words were, until his throat was dry, Xie Changling remained unmoved, as if he were listening to unfamiliar news that had nothing to do with him.
"You child, did you hear what I said? Hurry up and go to the frontier to lead troops into battle. Send the Empress back safely, and the Emperor will spare your life."
"Ha, why should I? Xi'er was originally my legal wife, and has nothing to do with that Xiao guy."
Xie Changling became increasingly resentful. It wasn't just a fit of pique; he genuinely believed that he wanted to stay by Song Lingxi's side.
"If you don't go, who will protect the Xiao Kingdom? Wait, Changling, what's wrong?"
It was only then that Prime Minister Xie realized that Xie Changling's emotions were off. He seemed to have become a different person, transforming from a gentle and refined nobleman into a cold-blooded and ruthless individual.
Xie Changling's unusually cold gaze and emotionless voice both spoke volumes.
“Father, I have just figured out one thing. Having witnessed the impermanence of life and death of countless people, I do not seek the future, but only seize the day.”
After saying that, Xie Changling wanted to go back to find Song Lingxi. He had just wasted so much time, which was really wrong of him.
"Then let me ask you, don't your parents and son want you anymore?"
Before they knew it, Xiao Jin had arrived at Qingshan Temple and appeared silently in front of them, seemingly having overheard much of their conversation.
"Your humble servant greets Your Majesty."
Prime Minister Xie tried to pull Xie Changling down to kneel with him, but couldn't budge him. He looked up at Xie Changling with a reproachful gaze.
"His Majesty has come to see Xi'er, but unfortunately she is asleep right now. His Majesty's trip will probably be in vain."
Xie Changling remained neither humble nor arrogant, and his tone even carried a hint of smugness, as if to say, "Go ahead and kill me, see if you dare?"
Prime Minister Xie broke out in a cold sweat upon hearing this; just that one sentence had soaked his back, and sweat was pouring down his back.
"Your Majesty, I have failed to discipline my son properly. He did not mean it that way."
Prime Minister Xie tried to defend Xie Changling, but the more he tried to explain, the worse it got; it would have been better if he had said nothing at all.
He also noticed that the two of them didn't even frown, ignoring his words, so he simply kept quiet.
Forget it, this is not something he can control. Life and death are in the hands of fate. If he is really implicated by Xie Changling, then he should be expelled.
