The cold wind rustled Bai Lingxi's clothes, and the familiar voice made Bai Lingxi stop and stand there stunned.
Bai Lingxi turned her head, her almond eyes filled with tears, snot streaming down her face. The beautiful woman struggled weakly in the villain's arms.
Zhou Changling recognized her almost instantly.
It's her!
It's her, it's his Xi'er!
Zhou Changling wore a round-necked black robe embroidered with gold, a gold crown and a jade belt. The robe was embroidered with magnificent gold dragon patterns, large and lifelike, which made him look even more imposing.
The man held a bow and arrow, the bow itself inlaid with gold, exuding unparalleled nobility; clearly, the arrow that had just been fired was his doing.
A cold wind howled past, rustling against the hem of his clothes, as if even the wind itself yielded to his power.
"Xi'er!"
Zhou Changling called out to the other person loudly. His eyes were already red and tears were welling up in them. He was extremely emotional.
"I've finally found you, my Xi'er!"
Zhou Changling was so engrossed in talking to Bai Lingxi that he didn't notice the dark-faced man beside him.
That person was the man who had shown him genuine love and care before his death—his beloved father!
"You unfilial son!" Before Bai Lingxi could reply, Zhou Jin angrily rebuked him.
Zhou Jin was furious: "You disregard human ethics, deceive your superiors and subordinates, and covet your stepmother. Are you trying to drive me to my death?"
"Xi'er, she is your stepmother!"
Such a bloody truth was revealed in full view of everyone.
Although Zhou Changling never intended to keep it a secret indefinitely, his vision was definitely not what it is now.
However, the most pressing issue should be dealing with this man who has lost his composure.
Zhou Changling looked over and carefully examined his features, discovering that this person was indeed Zhou Jin—his deceased, beloved father!
"You!" Zhou Changling's pupils dilated violently. He had clearly witnessed his father's death, and he saw his aged face and gray hair before his death.
"How could that be? Are you one of Father Emperor's long-lost sons?"
Zhou Changling still couldn't believe it, or rather, he didn't want to believe it.
Zhou Changling looked at the obviously young face, which looked exactly like his father's, and appeared to be around twenty years old.
She's the same age as me. Yes, judging by age, she must just be one of my father's romantic entanglements!
Zhou Jin flew into a rage: "Are you afraid to believe it, or do you simply not want to believe it? You know perfectly well what you're doing, you unfilial son! Utterly rebellious!"
"Since you've come looking for me, let's fight to the death! I never imagined that the power I personally gave you would nurture your evil intentions!"
Now that Zhou Jin had confronted him head-on, she had no intention of escaping again; all she would do was die again.
How could Zhou Jin be a coward who fears death? Besides, his life was stolen; without Xi'er, what meaning would his existence have?
...
Faced with Zhou Jin's accusations, Zhou Changling remained unusually silent.
With his intelligence, it was impossible for him not to recognize that this was his father.
There's only one possibility: he doesn't want to admit it!
If Zhou Jin were executed now, he would be a traitorous minister, and there would be no mention of him in history books. There would be no resurrection, and he would still be a good emperor who was diligent in governing and loved his people.
However, if he survives, Zhou Changling will be seen as a shameless scoundrel, and history books will call him the most debauched and immoral emperor, a disgrace to all royal families.
Actually, isn't the choice already predetermined?
Zhou Changling stood in the sunlight, while Zhou Jin stood in the shadows. One was in the light, the other in the dark; one was in black, the other in white; truth and falsehood intertwined, they were destined to be on different paths.
Bai Lingxi stood between the two. Although their auras were so similar, there was an insurmountable chasm between them, making it impossible for them to get along harmoniously.
Bai Lingxi's clear voice rang out, pleading for Zhou Jin: "Husband, don't kill him, please, don't kill him!"
As she finished speaking, the two men facing each other were stunned.
The cold wind howled past, chilling whose heart once more?
After a long pause, Zhou Changling finally spoke. His voice was clear and pleasant to hear, at least that's what Bai Lingxi thought.
Zhou Changling did not want to kill his father: "I will let you go and spare your life. I hope you can live in anonymity in the future. This is the biggest concession I can make."
"Hahaha, I really should thank you?" Zhou Jin laughed wildly at the sky. He was only in his early twenties and looked very young, but he was full of vicissitudes.
Zhou Jin wasn't afraid of death, but the only person he couldn't let go of was Bai Lingxi, and the only person he wanted to ask was Bai Lingxi.
"Has Xi'er already made up her mind?"
Zhou Jin looked at Bai Lingxi with a sorrowful, almost desperate gaze; that single glance seemed to pierce through Bai Lingxi's soul and strike her heart directly.
Bai Lingxi's body trembled slightly, and she shook her head, explaining, "No, there are so many of them, you'll die!"
A glimmer of light seemed to shine into Zhou Jin's dark eyes, and he perked up and asked.
"Yeah?"
"How about Xi'er comes with me?"
Bai Lingxi remained silent.
Zhou Jin's eyes dimmed inch by inch, and finally, he gave a bitter smile!
"I understand, Xi'er. Then let's say goodbye here, and never meet again."
...
Bai Lingxi thought he would leave with the guard, since Zhou Changling had promised not to kill him, and wandering the world was the best option.
She thought, or rather, she only thought...
The next turn of events left Bai Lingxi's eyes wide with rage!
Zhou Jin used his lightness skill, wielding a sharp blade, to rush into the encirclement, swinging his sword directly at Zhou Changling!
"Be careful—" Bai Lingxi called out, wanting to remind Zhou Changling to be careful, and in her heart she didn't want anything to happen to either of them.
