Chapter 54 World Two: The Cold Emperor and the Spoiled Consort (1)

Bai Lingxi is awake!

Consort Rong has woken up!

The news spread like wildfire throughout the palace.

When the new emperor Zhou Changling heard the news, he was discussing matters with his ministers. However, upon hearing the news, he immediately put down the memorials in his hand and stood up from his chair in shock.

Zhou Changling's voice trembled. No one knew that he would come to Bai Lingxi's palace every night, praying day and night that heaven would not take her life.

Zhou Changling: "Has Consort Rong really woken up?"

Manager Li is now respectfully addressed as Eunuch Li. He nodded with a smile, clearly very excited.

Eunuch Li: "Your Majesty, how could I dare to lie to you? Consort Rong has truly awakened!"

Zhou Changling calmed himself down a bit, but found that he didn't want to stay a moment longer. He just wanted to see her right now, so he hurriedly left with the words "We'll discuss it later" and left quickly.

The ministers were left alone in the Imperial Study, looking at each other in confusion. They could all sense a hint of gossip in each other's eyes. Could it be that the Emperor had developed feelings for Consort Rong?

Everyone was shocked by this idea and lowered their heads, not daring to look any longer. It was unspeakable, unspeakable.

Zhou Changling was on the imperial carriage, thinking about what he should say later: "Father is gone, will you stay?"

No, what if she is deeply in love with her father and suffers another blow?

Or, I order you to stay, otherwise the lives of your entire Bai clan will be in danger.

Zhou Changling's mind was in turmoil. After all, she was unconscious, and he could keep her in the palace to stay with her. Now that she was awake, what reason did he have?

Zhou Changling's thoughts wandered wildly, but little did he know that fate was truly on his side, because Bai Lingxi had lost her memory!

Rewind to 15 minutes earlier, Zhou Changling rushed inside in a great hurry, and those following him could hardly keep up.

As soon as he opened the door, he saw Bai Lingxi standing before him—

Bai Lingxi: "I don't know you, and I don't like it here. It's all dark. I want to go back to the bushes."

Bai Lingxi's voice was soft and sweet, and she thought she sounded fierce, but little did she know that her cute and lively appearance made it impossible for anyone to be angry with her. Everyone was secretly laughing.

Just as Zhou Changling started walking forward, he saw Bai Lingxi's nose twitch. Then, Bai Lingxi skipped and hopped in front of Zhou Changling, buried her little head in his arms, and spoke in a childish voice.

Bai Lingxi: "You're finally here. They've all been bullying me."

Everyone was stunned, initially not quite reacting, until they saw the emperor and suddenly realized what was happening: "This servant greets Your Majesty!"

As Zhou Changling smelled the intoxicating peach blossom fragrance emanating from Bai Lingxi, his eyes darkened.

Then, he was pulled back by the voices of the crowd. He looked at the person in his arms, neither pushing her away nor hugging her.

Zhou Changling's cold voice rang out: "What's wrong with her?"

Anyone could see that something was wrong with Bai Lingxi. Her spoiled, picky, and distorted sense of right and wrong—wasn't that kind of cute? This thought popped into everyone's mind at the same time.

Zhang Yu was the first to notice that something was wrong with Bai Lingxi, and he was also Bai Lingxi's personal physician.

So when faced with Zhou Changling's questioning, he was the first to step forward.

Zhang Yu stepped forward to make sure Zhou Changling could see him, then knelt on the ground: "Your Majesty, the Empress seems to be suffering from dissociative identity disorder."

Zhou Changling's cold voice spoke again: "What is dissociative identity disorder?"

Zhang Yu: "Dissociative identity disorder (DID) is when the Empress forgets what happened before, or even doesn't know who she is. I have seen similar cases in ancient books."

Just then, Bai Lingxi suddenly interrupted, "I don't want to stay with them. They say I'm sick. Can you take me away?"

Bai Lingxi blinked her big, bright eyes, her clear black and white pupils sparkling. Just looking at you like that could ignite all your desires and make you unable to refuse any of her requests.

Zhou Changling struggled to look away, after all, this was the woman he had longed for, the woman he could never have, no matter how much he thought about her.

Zhou Changling lowered his head. He had been so focused on asking about Bai Lingxi's condition that his attention was now drawn back to Bai Lingxi. He noticed that she wasn't wearing shoes and her fair little feet were incredibly cute.

Zhou Changling sighed inwardly, realizing that he really couldn't escape this time.

Zhou Changling scooped Bai Lingxi up in his arms and carried her to the soft couch, his voice still cool and aloof: "Why aren't you wearing shoes?"

Bai Lingxi nestled into his arms as if it were the most natural thing in the world, inhaling his comforting scent, and closed her eyes in contentment. Only when he asked her a question did she speak in a soft voice.

Bai Lingxi: "Did they forget? Besides, you weren't there to remind them; that's dereliction of duty."

Upon hearing this, the palace servants lowered their heads even further, fearing they would be dragged out and executed at any moment.

They didn't want to hear another word of these treasonous words and royal secrets; they wished they could plug their ears.

Zhou Changling also noticed this situation. He looked at the culprit who caused all this, who was unaware of the shocking secret he was about to reveal.

"Alright," Zhou Changling gave Eunuch Li a look, and Eunuch Li understood, so he led everyone away.

Before everyone had left, Zhou Changling spoke again: "Zhang Yu, please leave a message."

Upon hearing this, Zhang Yu stayed. He dared not reveal his feelings to the emperor, for how could he guarantee that he wouldn't be captivated by such a stunning beauty? Yet, he dared not show the slightest sign of anything amiss.

Zhou Changling glanced at him expressionlessly: "Take my pulse again."

Zhang Yu obeyed the order, placed a white silk handkerchief on Bai Lingxi's wrist, and carefully took her pulse.

After a long while, Zhang Yu withdrew his hand, knelt down, and dared not raise his head.

Zhang Yu: "Your Majesty, the Empress has just woken up and is still somewhat weak, but her pulse is stable, and the young prince is also very healthy."

Zhang Yu paused, then continued, "The Empress's dissociation is due to heartbreak; she may have forgotten some painful events, which is why she was able to wake up."

Zhou Changling's cold voice rang out again: "Is there a way to cure this?"

Zhang Yu: "Your Majesty, the dissociation syndrome can only be cured on its own; medication is not recommended."

Zhang Yu: "Some people may recover in a few days, while others may need several years, and some may never remember it in their entire lives."

Zhang Yu: "Your Majesty, I am incompetent and cannot guarantee that I can cure you."

Zhang Yu knelt on the ground, his head bowed low. He didn't know if the Emperor wanted the Empress to recover, since all of the Empress's memories were of the late Emperor.

Upon hearing this, Zhou Changling's eyes darkened. These were words he would never recall for the rest of his life.
