Chapter 707 World Six: The Frail and Helpless Crown Princess (147)

"You're not allowed to say such discouraging things."

Sheng Changfeng was already sobbing uncontrollably; his usually steady voice was trembling, completely devoid of his usual gentle and refined demeanor.

Perhaps moved by the bitter expression on his face, Liu Lingxi reached out and laboriously wiped away his tears.

"Don't cry, it's too ugly."

You look better when you smile.

Her words were like a sharp cut, causing Sheng Changfeng to shed even more tears, crying so hard he could hardly breathe.

But he wiped away his tears and forced a smile, which made people feel extremely sad.

Liu Lingxi wanted to laugh, but for some reason, she felt her breathing becoming increasingly tight, a sign that she couldn't catch her breath.

"Cough, cough—"

"Xi'er!"

Seeing this, Sheng Changfeng's eyes widened in fury. He quickly tried to help her catch her breath, but Liu Lingxi's symptoms did not improve at all.

Liu Lingxi seemed to have noticed this as well, and she gently patted Sheng Changfeng's large hand, signaling him to be quiet.

"Changfeng, promise me that you will do everything you can to help our Yu'er. He is so young and has no mother, so he needs your extra care."

"I know, I know."

Sheng Changfeng really wanted Liu Lingxi to stop scare him with those words.

But I can't bear to part with it.

"Does Xi'er have anything else to say?"

"Yes, Sheng Jin—"

Liu Lingxi finally turned her gaze to Sheng Jin, who was already sobbing uncontrollably.

Sheng Jin felt the gaze on her and immediately leaned forward, wanting to get close to the woman's ear.

But he was afraid the woman would look down on him, so when he got to his seat, he hesitated. That feeling... was fear.

"Sheng Jin, come closer, and you must promise me—"

"I know, I know."

Only after receiving the woman's permission did he dare to gradually move forward until he knelt down beside her and leaned his head over.

Before Liu Lingxi could finish speaking, Sheng Jin nodded repeatedly, appearing very obedient, a far cry from his former decisive and ruthless self.

"I know you want me to take good care of Yu'er and assist him in becoming a wise ruler. I know all of that."

Liu Lingxi nodded with difficulty and said no more.

It was clear that he was using all his strength; all his movements were slow and sluggish.

But no one in the room turned their heads; they all stared intently at Liu Lingxi, afraid of missing any of her movements or words.

She tried to raise her hand towards Sheng Jin, and the man, following her instructions, leaned closer. This was probably the closest the two had ever been when they weren't doing anything.

While he was still wondering what Xi'er would say to him—whether it would be accusation or resentment—the result was just one sentence:

"Sheng Jin, I don't hate you anymore."

I feel relieved.

Upon hearing these words, Sheng Jin's eyes widened suddenly, and tears welled up in his eyes first. This was his unique redemption.

His little Xi'er.

Always so kind, it's my fault, all the troubles are caused by me.

A wave of immense regret washed over him, engulfing him and then slowly consuming him completely.

Before he could react, Liu Lingxi's hand fell heavily to her side, and the jade bracelet hit the rosewood carvings on the bed, shattering instantly.

Sheng Jin reached out in disbelief to check her breath, only to find her lifeless; she had passed away.

"No--"

The wailing sounded like the roar of a dragon, causing him to howl out loud.

Sheng Changfeng seemed to have lost his soul, staring blankly ahead, unable to focus.
