Time flies, at least in Zhao Xueqi's eyes. She hadn't figured out how to implement the plan yet, and the deadline had arrived.
Little Yezi followed her master, Li Lin, to the Zhaohua Hall to hear the imperial decree. Curious, she asked, "Master, does His Majesty really want to?"
Li Lin glared at Xiao Yezi. If he weren't holding the imperial edict with both hands, he would have really given the kid a good talking-to: "How could you possibly fathom the Emperor's will? If word gets out, the Emperor will have your head!"
Little Yezi quickly begged for forgiveness: "I was wrong, I was wrong, thank you for the reminder, Godfather."
However, before Li Lin could issue the decree, Zhao Xueqi hurriedly arrived at Ganling Palace with her maid, just in time to miss Li Lin who was delivering the decree.
Zhao Xueqi stood in front of the Ganling Palace with Xiao Cui, her hairpins removed and her clothes plain, looking quite pitiful.
Zhao Xueqi pleaded loudly outside the palace, "Your Majesty, I am about to leave the palace. I only ask to see you one last time to console myself for not being able to serve you more often."
Bai Lingxi was selecting the finest furs for the little prince in her arms. For some reason, the closer she got to giving birth, the more she wanted to pile up all kinds of furs together. She had already selected ten fine furs, each one snow-white and irresistible to anyone who saw them. Just then, she heard shouts coming from outside the door.
Bai Lingxi: "Li Shuang? What's going on outside?"
After a while, Bai Lingxi heard no more sounds, but she still turned her curious gaze to Li Shuang, who had rushed over, and asked, "Who's outside?"
Li Shuang lowered her head, not daring to look at Bai Lingxi's exceptionally beautiful face: "Your Majesty, there's no need to panic. She was just an ignorant little maid; she's already been dragged away."
Bai Lingxi nodded, without saying whether she believed it or not, and continued to pick out fur for her baby. She didn't want any mixed colors, short fur, or fur that wasn't smooth.
But for some reason, she kept smelling a strange fragrance. Bai Lingxi's sense of smell was more sensitive than most people's: "Li Shuang, can you smell something?"
Li Shuang shook her head: "Your Majesty, this servant didn't smell anything."
Bai Lingxi didn't think much of it at first, but after a while, she felt an unusual pain in her abdomen. She suspected that she was going into labor, but her anxiety grew stronger.
Bai Lingxi: "Call her a midwife!"
Bai Lingxi: "I'm going into labor!"
Li Shuang immediately shouted, "Help! Help! Her Majesty is about to give birth!"
Hearing the commotion, Li Lu at the door panicked, but quickly calmed down and methodically directed the midwife inside. The order gradually stabilized, and the scene was no longer chaotic.
When Zhao Xueqi saw this scene outside the palace gate, her eyes flickered, and then a faint smile appeared on her lips. After that, she stopped struggling and was escorted back to the palace by the guards.
After Zhou Changling finished court, someone came to report that Consort Rong had given birth. Upon hearing this, Zhou Changling rushed to the Ganling Palace. The ministers behind him, watching the emperor's hurried departure, were completely bewildered, exchanging bewildered glances, not knowing what had happened.
Zhou Changling sat on the dragon carriage. It wasn't that he didn't want to run, but his legs were so weak that he was about to fall after taking only a few steps. He was extremely panicked. What on earth had happened?
