The Imperial Preceptor's Residence.
The sky was just beginning to lighten.
Wan Qiyi couldn't stay awake any longer and went to sleep on the soft couch next to her. She curled herself up like a little fox, her big tail covering her small body.
Tu Shan Lingxi covered her with a small blanket and coaxed her to sleep. Then she stayed by the Grand Preceptor's side, not daring to leave for a moment.
But as they waited and waited, there was no change in Wan Qijin; he showed no signs of waking up.
Tu Shan Lingxi's heart sank lower and lower, a vague sense of foreboding creeping into her heart, but she could only comfort herself, that everything would be alright.
The night passed without Tu Shan Lingxi closing her eyes once. She kept her eyes fixed on Wan Qijin, hoping he would wake up...
However, things didn't go as planned.
Wan Qijin remained lying quietly on the bed, her purple eyes closed and never opened.
He looked as if he were asleep, but in a deep sleep, showing no signs of waking up.
Tu Shan Lingxi's heart finally died. Her face turned ashen. It seemed that everything she had done was in vain and there was no miracle.
She began to recall the days she had spent with the Imperial Advisor.
"It's still useless..."
Tu Shan Lingxi muttered to herself. After waiting all night, her complexion was already bad, but now it was even more pale and bloodless.
She gently closed her eyes, two lines of clear tears streaming down her cheeks. In the end, it was her, it was her who killed the Grand Preceptor, she was the one who deserved to die the most!
What Tu Shan Lingxi didn't see was that her tears dripped onto Wan Qijin's hand, splashing up teardrops. The man seemed to sense it, and his fingers twitched.
She was immersed in this grief, filled with regret, wishing she could exchange her life for Wan Qijin's.
"Xi'er...why are you crying? Who made you feel wronged?"
Just as Tu Shan Lingxi was crying, a hoarse voice slowly rang out, and the voice sounded somewhat familiar.
She wanted to continue crying, but then her mind suddenly shifted, and she looked at the man lying down. Sure enough, she saw his smiling purple eyes.
"Wan Qijin, you—you're finally alive! Do you know how close you were to…"
Tu Shan Lingxi was both crying and laughing. Her delicate eyebrows were slightly furrowed, and the corners of her mouth were raised and lowered. This expression was not funny at all, but rather heartbreaking.
Wan Qijin's memory was still stuck on that day. Although he didn't know how he survived, he knew that his Xi'er had suffered these days.
"Don't cry, Xi'er. I've really been resurrected now, so you won't have to worry anymore."
"You bad guy, you bad guy, do you know how scared I am? Why..."
Tu Shan Lingxi finally choked up and couldn't speak anymore. Her pale face and red, tear-filled eyes were especially pitiful.
Wan Qijin felt as if his heart was being torn apart. Looking at the pale-faced, haggard woman, he realized for the first time that he was wrong, terribly wrong.
"Yes, I was wrong. Don't be afraid, Xi'er. Now that I'm awake, I will support you from now on."
Wan Qijin tried to raise her hand, but her body, which had been lying down for so long, and especially her arm, which had become stiff from having died once, wouldn't obey her commands.
He tried to lift it, but still couldn't succeed. He could only helplessly and softly coax Tu Shan Ling Xi.
"Good girl, don't cry anymore. How about I give you a good hug so you won't break my heart?"
Tu Shan Lingxi felt a pang of sadness. She cried out all the pain, hardship, and worry she had been experiencing recently, until the tip of her nose turned red from crying.
Tu Shan Lingxi's crying woke up the little fox sleeping on the soft couch. The little fox rolled over and fell to the ground, getting its fur black.
Wan Qiyi was still a little groggy from sleep, since she had only fallen asleep because she couldn't stay awake all night, so she wasn't fully awake for a while.
However, upon hearing her mother's joyful voice, she ran over, leaped onto the bed, and placed her little paws on the quilt.
"Awoo~"
