Chapter 1998: Telling the Encounter
"Ahem, I want some water."
Ripple said in a hoarse voice.
"Okay, wait a moment, I'll call a doctor to check it out, and if there's nothing wrong I'll give you some water."
The nurse said very dutifully.
"Thanks!"
Lianyi was sure that she should be in the hospital now, but she didn't know whether the embassy had received the news of her "rescue". There was no point in thinking too much. At least she was safe now, so she closed her eyes.
A moment later, the sound of the door opening was heard, and Lianyi saw the doctor and a strange man enter the ward.
The doctor carefully examined Lianyi and after making sure that she was awake and fine, the nurse poured her a glass of water.
Lianyi thanked him and slowly drank the glass of water. Then she looked at the man who had been silent since he entered the room, carefully considered her words and asked:
"May I ask who rescued me? How are my colleagues?"
Long San looked at Lian Yi's pale face and chapped lips, his eyes flickered, and he said softly:
"We are the ones who saved you. Your colleague has a broken thigh bone and has been sent back to China for further treatment. You don't have to worry."
"That's good."
Lianyi let out a sigh of relief after hearing this. Wen Shanglong should not repeat the same mistake. As long as he returned to the country, he would definitely be able to save his life. Moreover, because of this injury, he would probably receive an extra reward, so her mission would be half completed.
Long San looked at Lian Yi's expression and judged that she was really worried about her colleague, so he continued:
"Reporter Zhuo, can you tell us in detail how you were arrested?"
Lian Yi nodded and said:
"OK."
Then she organized her words and started talking about how she was "caught".
"When the embassy exploded that day, I had just laid down and was not asleep yet. Then there was a huge earthquake and I was so scared that I hid under the bed. I managed to escape. After the explosion stopped, I crawled out from under the bed and went to look for my colleague Wen Shanglong next door.
I found that his legs were pinned down and he had passed out. I didn't know where I got the strength to push away the stone slab that was pinning his legs, and then I carried him out. Then I turned around and went into the collapsed area to prepare to rescue the equipment we brought with us.
Before I found the thing, I felt a pain at the back of my neck and passed out."
When Lianyi said this, she subconsciously touched her neck.
Long San did not doubt Lianyi's statement. When they found the man, he was indeed knocked unconscious and was almost dehydrated. If it had been half a day later, it would be hard to say what the result would have been.
"And then? Go on."
"When I regained consciousness, I found myself with my hands and feet tied in a windowless room. Then a fierce man carried me like a chicken to another room."
Lian Yi swallowed her saliva when she said this, and continued without Long San urging her:
"A man who looked like a leader interrogated me. He asked me what happened in the makeshift hospital before and wanted to know who killed his team members.
I can only tell the truth. I just came across the scene where their people were killed, and I didn't see the person who did it. But they didn't believe it and said that Della had gone to be buried with his team members. If I don't want to die, I have to tell the truth."
Long San did not respond after hearing this, but this also confirmed their previous speculation that the mercenaries captured reporter Zhuo in order to find clues about the person behind the scenes.
Lianyi saw that the other party had no intention of interrupting, so she continued:
"I really didn't know and I couldn't fabricate facts, but they just started to touch me and try to bully me."
Lian Yi hugged her arms, looking a little ugly. After calming down for a while, she continued:
"Just as they were taking off my coat, I heard gunshots, and then someone rushed in and said they were under attack. I was so scared that I huddled in a corner, and I could only hear gunshots and explosions. It was very scary.
I don't remember how long it lasted, I just felt it went on for a while. After the sound died down, I dared to look up and found that the ground was full of corpses. I was so scared that my legs went weak. Then I slowly moved to the door, ready to find a chance to leave.
But before I could see the situation outside clearly, a gun was pointed at my head. Then the man who asked me questions before pushed me to the front as a shield. I don’t know who he was shouting to, but he said that if the other person attacked him again, he would kill me.
After that, three people took turns pulling me, as if we were avoiding invisible enemies. Fortunately, I was in good physical condition and did not fall behind. One of the men with an East Asian face wanted to kill me as a burden, but was stopped by the leader.
I was just glad that I lived one more day, but one of them was killed that night, and his death was so silent that even the night watchman didn’t notice it. I then understood why the leader didn’t kill me, because I was their hostage, otherwise the people chasing after them would have killed them all long ago.”
Lianyi felt a little self-deprecating and a little relieved when she said this.
“Because one of them died, they dragged me and started running again before daybreak. Finally, I couldn’t run any longer, so they stopped to rest.
I was so tired that I fell asleep against a tree. I heard voices in a daze, but they were not clear. Then I felt a dark shadow flash in front of me. I wanted to open my eyes to see, but my neck hurt and I knew nothing. When I woke up, I was here.
After listening to Lianyi's narration, Long San frowned. It really didn't provide any useful information. The only thing that was certain was that the mercenary team was wiped out, and the perpetrators did not harm any innocent people. Reporter Zhuo was lucky enough to save his life.
"Reporter Zhuo, thank you for your cooperation. We will take care of the rest. You should rest well in the hospital for two days. We will send you back home when you are well."
Lian Yi nodded and said:
"Okay, but I heard from them that Della was killed by them in the hospital. I'm afraid."
He didn't finish the rest of the words, but Long San understood Lian Yi's concerns and estimated that the other party was having some stress reaction, so he immediately comforted her:
"Reporter Zhuo, please trust the motherland. We are here to handle this incident. We will definitely ensure your safety. You can rest assured."
Lian Yi then nodded.
Then Long San said goodbye and left.
After Lianyi saw the man leave, she lay down again. She didn't care whether the other party believed her or not.
That afternoon, Wang Shian received the news that Lianyi had woken up, so he brought people to visit her.
Lianyi thanked him with tears in her eyes and recounted the story of how she escaped death, which won her a lot of sympathy.
The next morning, Fang Ziang and Li Wang also came to the hospital to visit Lianyi. Lianyi was able to walk at this time, but she pretended to have sore muscles and moved slowly by holding on to the wall, looking a little miserable.
"Reporter Zhuo, can you walk around now?"
Lian Yi looked up and gave the two of them a forced smile and said:
"Well, I was lucky that I wasn't shot, otherwise you would have come to attend my funeral today."
